  1. I don't have any experience with multiple RunOnceEx runs i must admit(only one), but cant you not just as the last entry in each runonceex(n).cmd set the next runonceex(n).cmd to run and then have a reboot without any 5 secs pause as the last line in each runonceex(n).cmd except the first ?
  2. If you have a single user system and just wants the built-in administrator account as your only account(i'm like that, as i would rather just image my system back fresh if anything should go wrong, instead of trying to fix it), then you can just skip OOBE by adding the following to winnt.sif: [Unattended] UnattendSwitch="yes" Then to have the built-in administrator account set to autologon always, then also add: [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword=something AutoLogon=Yes I don't remember with XP, but with Win2k, then you need to define a password, as else autologon only works 1 time... When you make a user-account in Windows, then the name you enter is used as both 'Name' and 'Full Name', and if you use 'Net user' to add a user, then it's just the 'Name' that's filled... The following dosen't have anything to do with user-account names, and is just used under 'System' properties: [UserData] FullName="something"

Many thanks for your reply, Tommy - and i wish you a happy new year too, mate Yeah, while reading through the HFSLIP code and the dx9c inf's, i also thought to myself, how one earth you had figured all that stuff out by yourself Very impressive! Anyhow, i love ramblings, so please don't hold yourself back when replying to me, as i enjoy background-stories, insights and getting to learn whats going on in detail... Btw, Happy new year also to Fred and to all other MSFN members CU, Martin.

OK, i've now just re-read the dx9c part of the hfslip batchfile, and then also looked at the dx9c install inf's, and yes, the reason for MPC working still, even though mpcodecs.inf dosen't register the codecfiles(errors out on the first file), is that the dx9c inf's which HFSLIP sets to run from RunOnceEx, allready registeres many of them, like e.g. dxdllreg.inf: [DShow_RegisterDll] %11%\amstream.dll %11%\devenum.dll %11%\encapi.dll %11%\mswebdvd.dll %11%\qasf.dll %11%\qcap.dll %11%\qdv.dll %11%\qdvd.dll %11%\qedit.dll %11%\quartz.dll %11%\l3codecx.ax %11%\mpg2splt.ax
  5. Where do you get off thinking that you're entitled to demand development, when you're dealing with a freeware project like this! It's like someone giving you hundred bucks and then you're complaining about why you don't get 2 or 3 hundred instead! How about instead showing some apreciation and respect for great freeware projects like this and let nuhi work at the pace he feels comfortable with... And of course nLite cannot be passed on to someone else, unless nuhi himself does so, since the app isn't open-source... Sorry for being alittle harch here, but posts like this is seriously p***ing me off!
  6. No need to be sorry, mate We all have been rookies once... Happy studying (and of course you can ask all the questions you like!)

    Windows Updates

Thank's for your reply, mate Anyway, sorry for my bad wording maybe, but what i meant was that i believe that XML3 is default in Win2k-SP4, and hence, XML3 updates wouldn't be 'Optional' then... On Tomcat's old list, then when you haven't selected any of the optional XML installers, then the 'HF' section still lists this update: Windows2000-KB936021-x86-ENU.EXE S MS07-042 Vulnerability in MSXML3 And that update has now been replaced by the XML3 update on your new list i.e. 'Windows2000-KB955069-x86-ENU.EXE'. Again, if i'm wrong, then i'm really sorry for wasting your time with my nonsence... CU, Martin. Edit: I found this on wikipedia's MSXML page: Windows 2000 SP4 also ships with MSXML 3.0 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSXML
  8. Please read the MSFN Unattended Guide and pay special attention to the concept of $OEM$ folders... (No point in me giving you directions, when they allready are available in a nice and user-friendly guide...)
  9. Just wanted to be sure that you knew about the precense of a very nice batchfile which automates the time-consuming process of unpacking updates, cabbing updated binaries, overwritting older binaries with the new ones, adding entries in txtsetup.sif/dosnet.inf for new binaries not present in source, force-feeding the reg-entries from the update-inf's at T-13, registering dlls and doing other post-install operations from the update-inf's at first-logon, working around MS screw-ups etc. etc. If you allready know, but just prefers to do this manually, then sorry for intruding, mate

    Windows Updates

Hi Tommy Thank you so much for making such a great update list, i really appreciate your efforts, mate I think that the XML3 update 'Windows2000-KB955069-x86-ENU.EXE', shouldn't be listed as 'Optional' under it's 'Notes' section... (If i'm wrong then i apologise). Very minor issue, but just thought that i would report it... Thank's again, mate

OK, i am now officially confused I got to think about that the error in setuperr.log about mpcodecs.inf also was present when slipstreaming dx9c, so i just now checked setupapi.log on the system i'm typing from now, which is a FDV set#8e system with dx9c slipstreamed(the previous post was from a VM session), and what do i see there: [2008/11/15 02:50:59 348.2106] Setup could not register the OLE Control C:\WINNT\system32\acelpdec.ax because of the following error: DllRegisterServer returned error 2147746132 Error parsing RegisterDlls section register in C:\WINNT\INF\mpcodecs.inf: Error 0x80040154: Class not registered Error parsing install section DefaultInstall of C:\WINNT\INF\mpcodecs.inf: Error 0x80040154: Class not registered And MPC works fine on that system... Now since the failling file is at the top of the inf's 'register' section, then all the underneath listed files should also not have been registered ??? Hmm, maybe the other dx9c install inf's, which is run from RunOnceEx are then registering them ?

Thanks for your reply, mate Although the error message from Windows states that an error log has been made, then no minidump is saved whatsoever(e.g. in %SystemRoot%\Minidump), and in event viewer there's just an entry from drwatson which isn't telling us anything relevant either... (Btw, the error in setuperr.log about mpcodecs.inf is the same and always present, no matter if i slipstream dx9c or not...) Anyway, i then thought to myself why i haden't just gone through '%windir%\setupapi.log' to see what specifically had gone wrong, and when i did, i found the bad file: 'acelpdec.ax': [2008/12/28 03:32:21 448.1] Munged cmdline: C:\WINNT\System32\rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 C:\WINNT\inf\mpcodecs.inf EXE name: C:\WINNT\System32\rundll32.exe Installing section DefaultInstall from C:\WINNT\inf\mpcodecs.inf. 13. It's important to note that the '-setDefaultBrowser' switch isn't supported by the installer, but only by the firefox.exe executable in '%programfiles%\Mozilla Firefox'... If that switch has stopped working now(i don't now as i use Opera), then atleast here is a regfile with the captured reg-entries that Firefox v2.0.0.4 added when selecting OK to make it the default browser(beware - fixed path's): Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\HTTP\DefaultIcon] @="C:\\PROGRA~1\\MOZILL~1\\FIREFOX.EXE,1" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\HTTP\shell\open\ddeexec] @="\"%1\",,0,0,,,," [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\HTTP\shell\open\ddeexec\Application] @="Firefox" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\HTTP\shell\open\command] @="C:\\PROGRA~1\\MOZILL~1\\FIREFOX.EXE -url \"%1\" -requestPending" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.html] @="FirefoxHTML" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.htm] @="FirefoxHTML" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\https\DefaultIcon] @="C:\\PROGRA~1\\MOZILL~1\\FIREFOX.EXE,1" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\https\shell\open\ddeexec] @="\"%1\",,0,0,,,," [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\https\shell\open\ddeexec\Application] @="Firefox" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\https\shell\open\command] @="C:\\PROGRA~1\\MOZILL~1\\FIREFOX.EXE -url \"%1\" -requestPending" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.xht] @="FirefoxHTML" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\gopher\DefaultIcon] @="C:\\PROGRA~1\\MOZILL~1\\FIREFOX.EXE,1" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\gopher\shell\open\ddeexec] @="\"%1\",,0,0,,,," [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\gopher\shell\open\ddeexec\Application] @="Firefox" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\gopher\shell\open\command] @="C:\\PROGRA~1\\MOZILL~1\\FIREFOX.EXE -url \"%1\" -requestPending" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ftp\DefaultIcon] @="C:\\PROGRA~1\\MOZILL~1\\FIREFOX.EXE,1" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ftp\shell\open\ddeexec] @="\"%1\",,0,0,,,," [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ftp\shell\open\ddeexec\Application] @="Firefox" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ftp\shell\open\command] @="C:\\PROGRA~1\\MOZILL~1\\FIREFOX.EXE -url \"%1\" -requestPending" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.shtml] @="FirefoxHTML" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.xhtml] @="FirefoxHTML" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet] @="FIREFOX.EXE" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\FIREFOX.EXE\DefaultIcon] @="C:\\PROGRA~1\\MOZILL~1\\FIREFOX.EXE,0" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\FIREFOX.EXE\shell\safemode] @="Firefox &Safemode" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\FIREFOX.EXE\shell\safemode\command] @="C:\\PROGRA~1\\MOZILL~1\\FIREFOX.EXE -safe-mode" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\FIREFOX.EXE\shell\open\command] @="C:\\PROGRA~1\\MOZILL~1\\FIREFOX.EXE" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\FIREFOX.EXE\shell\properties] @="Firefox &Options" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\FIREFOX.EXE\shell\properties\command] @="C:\\PROGRA~1\\MOZILL~1\\FIREFOX.EXE -preferences" Btw nomadturk, Opera dosen't automatically set itself as default browser either, and like Firefox, asks upon second startup if it should be made the default browser or not... If anyone want's it, then i also have the regfile for Opera... Edit: Ooops, used 'code' instead of 'codebox' tags for the reg-entries...
  14. Please re-read MHz's reply, and then re-read the MSFN guide's info about "InstallShield installers" and "RunOnceEx/RunOnceEx from CD"... When you have done that, and still do not understand it, then please ask a specific question to what you don't understand, but seriously, you should be able to understand it from the guide allready...
  15. You need to specify an extra switch to define where the logfile should be saved to: /f2"%temp%\setup.log"

You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created. Btw, i haven't yet switched over to the new update-list(i will in a couple of days time), and am still using Tomcat's latest list from April '08, with all high-priority updates(except KB842773 and KB908531 which FDV recommends not to include) + gdiplus(for Regshot unicode and Foxit Reader) and then nothing else... Edit: Ohh, and of course i'm using latest FDV fileset(set#8f) and HFSLIP v1.7.9_beta_c... HFSLIP.zip

    new fileset

@FDV I personally have no use for dx9c, as i'm not a gamer and have old non-dx9 compatible onboard sound/graphics, and since i prefer the 'overlay mixer' renderer in MPC, but i've then still always slipstreamed dx9c since i thought that MPC needed it... However, i've now just done a test, and found out that MPC works fine on dx7(of course without support for vmr9 renderers and pixelshaders), but just dosen't when using your fileset(when trying to run it, then Windows pops up an error message about the program failed to run and that an error report is generated, allthough i cannot find that error report anywhere)... When using your fileset and slipstreaming dx9c, then MPC works fine, though... Could it somehow be related to this entry in setuperr.log: Error: Setup was unable to process some components because of the following error in section DefaultInstall of information file mpcodecs.inf: Class not registered If this could be fixed, then i would really appreciate it...
  18. No, don't worry Btw, i know that it says so in the MSFN 'Unattended Windows' guide and a bunch of other places on the net, but adding numbers infront of the folder-names will not affect the install order of the drivers, but of course it doesn't hurt anything either... Edit: If anyone should be questioning this, then please study closely the MSDN docs for OEM driver installs, and also check your own '%windir%\setupapi.log' file for seeing for yourself the un-chronological install order... Also MS's own docs for how to install OEM drivers, dosen't mention anything about numbers either and just uses normal un-numbered foldernames in their examples...

    Windows Updates

Yeah, i recently updated my sisters new PC which had WinXP-SP3 on(i tried to convince her to change to 2k, but couldn't ), anyway, when i followed Tommy's list and then came to KB893803v2, then i could see that it didn't installed right from the batchfile i had made and when i then tried to install it manually, then a prompt stated that the SP level on the system(i.e. SP3) wasen't supported for that update... Note, this wasen't a slipstream, though... Just a FYI...
  20. I have read that the latest build of Norton Ghost 2003(build 793), should work perfectly for Vista also, but i haven't tested it myself though... I've used Acronis True Image for some years, but after having been feed up with going through those lame wizzards upon each restore job(only backups can be configured to start with one click, but not restores), then i have now gone over to Norton Ghost 2003, since with that, then i can just make a DOS bootable floppy with ghost.exe and then add some commands in autoexec.bat, so that i'm prompted for if i want to either backup or restore my system partition fully unattended and then reboot. Maybe there are some freebies also with a command-line interface which is just as fast and reliable as ghost.exe in DOS, but i must admit that i've been to lazy to check it out...
  21. I have just changed to using INFs instead of CMD/REG-files for installing my apps and regtweaks from RunOnceEx, and so during my investigations of the INF syntax at the MSDN site, then i noticed that there also was a function for making changes to INI-files, so instead of using a third-party utility like GSAR.EXE, then i've made an INF that will change 'Multi User=1' to 'Multi User=0' in operadef6.ini: [Version] Signature=$CHICAGO$ [DefaultInstall] UpdateInis=Opera [Opera] "%16422%\Opera\operadef6.ini",System,"Multi User=1","Multi User=0" You can install the INF by using this command: RunDll32.exe AdvPack.Dll,LaunchINFSection opera.inf,DefaultInstall
  22. I would highly recommend HFSLIP for slipstreaming hotfixes into an install source... It supports more updates for direct integration than nLite, and it also supports directly slipstreaming DirectX 9.0c into your install source(without the bloat). The same goes for IE6-SP1 and WMP9(if you for some strange reason would want these)... It's multi-language, open-source and written in plain cmd-syntax, so you can see exactly what's going on under the hood, and it supports an answer-file for making the process completelly unattended... It supports FDV's Win2k IE/Junk Removal Fileset, so to make your Win2k system really fly(and be more secure and tweaked)... Homepage: http://hfslip.org/ Forum section: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showforum=129 Win2k update list: http://www.vorck.com/windows/hotfixes_2000.html* FDV's homepage: http://www.vorck.com/windows/remove-ie.html *When you select updates to download from the HFSLIP update list, then change the language to your own language before you download the update...
  23. Yeah, I have also used that method for some time now, since you also have that problem when testing an ISO out in a VM, if the guest and host has the same name... Anyway, nice tip, mate CU, Martin.

    new fileset

    @FDV I have a 'Favorites' Menu item also(set#8e)...
  25. @war59312: If that 'hide.exe' app is Oleg Scherbakov's 'hidcon.exe', then the problem is that it dosen't support redirection...
