Just in case you didn't read it, then TC said in another post that KB898461 dosen't contain SP3 binaries and hence, HFSLIP needs to be updated to force-copy the SP2 binaries... I don't know about the other update you mention, but maybe it's the same issue there also ?
-
On the HFSLIP homepage there's links to TC's brilliant update lists(under 'More > Windows Update Lists'), but anyway, here's the list for WinXP-SP3: http://users.telenet.be/tc76/winup/_winxpsp3.html Then you'll simply tick : [x] Windows Genuine Advantage [x] Windows Update Agent 3.0 [x] Microsoft Update engine [x] MUAuth.cab And then it shows what's needed together with their download links : HFCABS: LegitCheckControl.cab MUAuth.cab muweb_site.cab wbemoc.cab HF: WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe

Virtual Memory on a Virtual Machine
Martin H replied to Preferiti's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Do any of you guys use nLite ? If yes, then it seems that many have experienced this issue when integrating IE7 with nLite and/or using RyanVM's update-pack... nuhi then stated : http://www.msfn.org/board/Integrate-IE7-re...t-E-t88472.html Unfortunetly the thread dosen't provide a solution... -
%OEM% Folder Location in XP (i386 or root?)
Martin H replied to ScottCooperDotNet's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
As the MSFN 'Unattended Guide' states, then the $OEM$ folder should be in the root for CD based installs... The page you're linking too, and which states to place $OEM$ under I386, is reffering to network based installations only... -
Since it's an ISO you're wanting to test in the VM, then you don't need, or have any use for, a pre-installed OS on the VM, since you wan't to test if the ISO can be installed without problems and if it else functions as it should...
-
Have you done what cluberti suggested previusly i.e. to check if your unbootable backup copy contains an I386 folder ? If it does, then just make a bootable ISO out of the I386 folder + ident files with cdimage.exe; the instructions + boot-image is in MSFN's unattended guide...
-
The VM is isolated from the host and hence, it won't be interfered by the hosts installed updates...

Sorry for butting in here, but i simply had to drop by and say thanks a million for the tip on TC's automated hfnetchk/wget script - it's nothing less than a masterpiece IMHO

Just wanted to say thank you so much TC, for incorporating that 'install directly from source' feature It's very much appreciated, mate CU, Martin.

Copy I386 Folder after install?
Martin H replied to dkreifus's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Please read MSFN's 'Unatttended' installation source guide, linked at the top of this forum... -
Command prompt for folders anywhere in explorer
Martin H replied to Dislocated Time's topic in HFSLIP
This really isn't the best place to ask such a question, but nonetheless, here you go mate : Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Command Prompt Here] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Command Prompt Here\Command] @="cmd.exe /k cd %1" Edit : Beaten by 7yler -
In terms of simply defragging the filesystem, then the built-in Windows defragger does about as good of a job as the competetion, except that the built-in solution normally is slower and needs a bigger amount of free space available. It is however, in the other aspects where the competetion has it's advantages, like with intelligent file-placement strategies and better free-space consolidation... My personal favorites are UltimateDefrag and PerfectDisk, but for simply defragging the filesystem, then the built-in solution does it's job just fine...

How to find "My Documents" folder on any partition?
Martin H replied to radigast's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Unless i'm misunderstanding your request, then this should do it : set MyDocs="%userprofile%\My Documents" -
Hi geek This specific functionality was added with ImgBurn v2.4.0.0 : Allthough it relies on CUE Sheets for this specific functionality, then it also features a 'Create CD CUE File' function, where individual tracks can be selected and the generated CUE Sheet added to the write queue... If you allready knew this(and i misunderstood you), then sorry about that

Yes. As i said, i do not have any experience with this whatsoever, but there are several premade .NET switchless installers available, like e.g. on RyanVM's site here : http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/ And also on his forum in the section for switchless installer releases : http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=14. If you're having trouble getting any of those installers installed, then you'll have to do some more searching, as there should be a wealth of info available on this specific topic...
-
1. Please re-read the MSFN unattended guide, as this is explained in detail there... 2. You should slipstream it with the '/integrate' switch. 3 and 4, i cannot help with sorry, as i don't myself use WMP or .NET, but there should be alot of info available on this if searching the board for it...

Maybe a noob problem with script
Martin H replied to elmatadorbr's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Please read the MSFN unattended guide... You are using the 'RunOnceEx from CD' method, and this relies on the reg-entries that handles the installations to be imported before first logon, like e.g. at T-12(cmdlines.txt) or T-13(svcpack.inf). nLite doesn't have any GUI options for getting those reg-entries imported before first-logon, so instead of adding the commands to nLite's 'Runonce' section, then you could e.g. manually include a batchfile with those commands into the '$OEM$' folder and then add the batchfiles name surrounded by double-quotes to 'cmdlines.txt'. -
RunOnce & manual execution differ? WTF?
Martin H replied to BAReFOOt's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
If i where you, then i would try it one last time with a RunOnceEx --> RunOnce run, and with a 10 secs pause in the beginning of the RunOnce batchscript... If you allready have tried with such a big pause, then please disregard this -
HFSLIP should always be run on a clean source. If you wan't to use HFSLIP together with nLite, then you'll have to use HFSLIP first. Please redo on a clean source and report back if problems persists...

Yeahh, installing apps directly from CD isn't lame, but asking feature requests that goes completely against the changelog of the upcomming HFSLIP v2.0 version is kinda retarded Anyway, i really apreciate you're considering this, and especially since i'm well aware of the big workload you're allready having on your shoulders, so i just wanted to say thank you so much for that, my friend CU, Martin.

Martin H replied to BAReFOOt's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I'm perfectly aware of 'sleep.exe', but the point of (ab)using ping for pausing a batchscript, is that you'll archive the exact same functionality, without needing to add an additional tool to your unattended CD... -
Hi Tomcat76 After having reread the HFSLIP v2.0 changelog, then i feel pretty stupid for having posted such a lame feature request I had actually read it before, when you first posted the thread about it, but must admit, that i had completely forgotten all about that specific change... Simply to avoid wasting additional time on copying files over from CD to harddrive and to delete the files again after the installations had finished. Effeciency... I guess i just thought that it was a little strange that it was done directly from CD with T-13 installs, but not with the 1st logon installs... Anyway, i perfectly understand your motives for not wanting to implement this now... Many thanks for your reply, mate

I would like to make a feature request about installing the contents of 'HFGUIRUNONCE' directly from CD, just like it's done with 'HFSVCPACK'. Maybe even a variable in 'HFANSWER.INI' could change this behaviour... It's because i install all my apps and regtweaks from 'HFGUIRUNONCE', since as you guys know, then some stuff dosen't work right from T-13, but this then unfortunetly means that the apps aren't installed directly from CD if i'm not using 'HFSVCPACK'. Before i changed to using HFSLIP, then i always installed my apps through the "RunOnceEx from CD" method, so that's why i ask... Just a thought

RunOnce & manual execution differ? WTF?
Martin H replied to BAReFOOt's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Yeahh, i've read that too, but it isn't true, though, as it needs a preceding key executed for that to happen... Hmm, it works perfectly here on both XP and Win2K, but it will only work if there isn't a '1.1.1.1' address available, as if there are, then you need to change the address to a non-existing one, just like you did... Btw, Another version is : ping -n 5 127.0.0.1 Where '-n 5' is 5 secs.
