You can as much as you like but that is a **** axiom. My 1st PC is ACPI-based (so Yes I use it) but read the quote - says - legacy. Well I have a legacy PC that can run Vista RTM (slow but it can run) but I can't install it because someone has made it a MUST for Vista Installation. So If that is not monopoly and trying to get us to throw our old PCs and buy new (in order to run "new" software) i don't know what is.

I don't think that cahnging to i8xx would be good because I (from my personal experience) can freely say that i8xx series are POS. I revived Windows 98 DDK so if you can (or know someone that does) develope drivers go ahead... If you are a simple user as most of us here consider suggestion to move to NT-based OS...

Are u sure that you have all the proper codecs both audio and video that are required for playback. Did u try QuickTime Alternative or QT Lite?

You might say that, but it is kinda like that due to the fact that in DOS there is no background services like in Windows (at least not in the same way) that will interupt DEFRAG.

I don't think that SYSTEM.INI or background stuff is the problem. That stuff you have now happened to me back in the days of 9x because I had bad sectors on HDD, so u might try checking...

They all do because of that "engine" in XP that is made that way. In XP even lousy i810 igp shows alpha-blended stuff. So I guess it has something to do with software.

Exactly the one I use on my 2nd PC. i810 is widely known but there are many video cards like it...

You think altering vcache.vxd would help that cause?

Obviously this project will not be finished, but discouraging other projects developers and users interested in the older projects is not a way to go... Although this project is probably halted I don't think that is a bad think to derivate from any OS and making it customized. Basically that is what slip-streamers do with NT's.

Or maybe consider getting another HDD (small and cheap) that you will use as primary and boot 95 from. AFAIK there is no way to install 95 after NT-based OS... Or you could play with PartitionMagic a bit but on your responsibility only...

Yea... Drivers are essential... So I would take this advice seriously. Expect, you might be unable to find some components that are compatible with 98 @ manufacturer sites because there are usually only information about new products.

WOW.... These two versions are really different... I like the new taskbar but you should put Vista Start Flag on the start button, and maybe change the tab colors they are too glassy . Either way nice idea and good realization...
