  2. Things I would check for that drew, 1. Your graphics card might be the culprit 2. Check DPMS (Display Power Management Signaling) matches video monitors and video cards so they may simultaneously shut down or startup. It seems to be a power management issue, though I have no experience with this, as its strange. By the way do you have on board graphics? if so, make sure it is disabled, or unistalled. Big Booger
  3. depending on size, the reasoning , I just like it that way. Also, with more partitions it gets a bit wacky, I mean going from A-J is ridiculous, especially if your CDROM and/or DVD get all jumbled up in the middle like what happened to me. It suckers arses. Go with two partitions, one small one rather large, put the OS on the smaller, but leave some room for some things. I tend to put installed programs in the OS partition so leave about 3-4 GIGS there again, depending on your HDD size, Big Booger
  4. Smoking, got the voltometer, and pinpointed it eh??? Smashing good show old fellow. Big Booger

  10. I dont have your canon printer, but I did have a canon that was not supported and what I did was installed the 98 drivers, accepting they were not XP certified. I then right clicked on the printer device and told it to run the printer in compatibility mode. It worked. Now I can use that old printer on my XP machine. Give it a go, tell us what your results are. If that does not work, you have two options A. NEW PRINTER B. DUAL BOOT GOOD LUCK Big Booger
  11. Should have the latest, he is in contact with Robi-wan and it seems like the site should be back up sometime in this new year! Big Booger hopefully sooner than later
  12. Upgrade trillian to the newest version available. Second, contact your ISP and see if they are blocking anything on their end, with regards to ports etc... YOu can do this by contacting their technical support. Another thing you can try is using HTTP TUNNEL WITH trillian. HTTP tunnel allows you to run internet applications over the port 80 (http port), which might cure your problem. Another thing to do is delete zonealarm from your system completely. Try black ice defender, or go the hardware route if you really must use a firewall. MAKE COMPLETELY SURE YOU have administrator Privileges. In otherwords, use TWEAK UI, go down to accounts and check the box that says show log on as administrator. Then log on as the administrator my hitting startlog off then select administrator or To log on as the Administrator In “Log On to Windows,” type Administrator and the password you assigned to the administrator during Setup. Click OK. If a message appears informing you that the system could not log you on, verify that CAPS LOCK is not turned on, and then retype your password. IMPORTANT Running Windows XP as an administrator makes the system vulnerable to unnecessary security risks. Instead, use your user account to perform routine tasks such as running programs, working on documents, and visiting Internet sites. Or YOu can make sure the administrator by going to start/control panel/user accounts and make sure you are the administrator! Big Booger Other than that, I dont know what else to I can offer at this time. Contact TRILLIAN/MICROSOFT/YOUR PROVIDER etc...

  21. Stop that thief, its my sisters iMac, you jerkoff, you should have formatted the HDD. Limp wiener! A computer user, used AppleScript on his sisters stolen iMac and the remote control ability of Timbuktu to eventually retrieve the stolen iMac, all from Mid october 2001 to Mid November 2001, with the final outcome being just a week ago. An iMac and printer gets stolen from Mr. Bridges sister. He figures that if the stolen iMac ever connects to the net, he can somehow inject an piece of AppleScript into the iMac, to get rid of any personal and private files that were on the iMac and possibly try and locate the stolen iMac to boot. Using some advice from known Apple Script guru Marc Myers and the helpful people of the usenet group alt.comp.lang.applescript, they come up with a script can delete all but the system folder of the stolen iMac. All he needs is for the stolen iMac to be connected to the internet, for Timbuktu to alert him when the iMac is online (he's got a valid account and password for this) and then when the iMac is idle, he can do his work. He gets his wish, and injects the "Suicide Code", which, after a few attempts deletes whatever personal and private information was on the iMac. The stolen iMac comes online later, using an AOL account (sister had changed the password on her dial-in account). Mr Bridges managed to change the AOL dial-in numbers to point to the sisters and his number, a sort of phone home... As Mr bridges puts it... "Coincidentally, I've since gotten about 15 calls from a particular person I don't know, and my sister has gotten about the same amount of calls from the same person." (Unpublished number). A happy ending... this number was passed onto the police, where an investigator located the stole iMac and printer, one female pled out to possession of stolen property and got a year's probation. ----------------COMMENTARY------------------- Excellent way to recover actual stolen merchandise. I mean imagine being able to track down your stolen PC, laptop, palmpilot, pocketpc, etc.... just by tracking it with software. Very interesting, though could be used in other ways too, for malicious purposes of companies and individual users. BB
