  2. i think it uses same ports as netmeeting. which would be....522, 389, 1503, 1720 and 1731 all TCP. give that a try.
  3. sure. you can specify an If Then statement in a batch file. i haven't done it before, but i know that it can be done. search google for batch file information.
  4. drop down to a command prompt. type set and press enter. make sure that allusersprofile is still listed as a system variable. if it's not there, that would be your problem. if it is, then make sure the path that is associated with it is correct.
  5. can you be more specific on what you mean by msn audio?
  6. use remote desktop that is included with xp. open port 3389 TCP on your router. then it should work. i have mine setup behind a linksys router. works like a charm.
  7. well i don't know about ms word. i don't think that can be done. i know that you can perform a net send. that is assuming the messenger service is turned on for both computers. just drop down to a command prompt and do net send computername message. ie: net send desktop hello can you see this message?
  8. i got 4. 2 system 1 network service and 1 local service
  9. Redman, I believe you are looking for something like this? http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2003/j...epaperintro.htm http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2003/t.../ch7/OutB03.htm
  10. i like textpad. it's not free, but has a lot of features that notepad doesn't. www.textpad.com
  11. ypatia, as long as you have a valid windows xp license, just call microsoft and explain the situation. they will send you another xp cd for a nominal fee. like 5-10 dollars.
  12. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\desktop\WindowMetrics] "Shell Icon BPP"="16" "Shell Icon Size"="32" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000000 i think this may help
  13. A. yes dell's "customer service" is complete crap. B. i will never again buy from dell. i used to do Dell's tech support. that was back in 2001. it was pretty decent. now, the tech support is horrible. partially because they outsourced it to india. i mean, how many americans can understand an indian guy talking really fast and trying to tell them to hit f8 in time to get started in safe mode? i haven't nothing against the indians as a people, but they are inadvertantly taking american jobs. anyways, DOWN WITH DELL!
  14. or you can call microsoft and they will send you the cd for a couple dollars. i did that when i was robbed. my cd was taken, but not my coa or product key.
  15. this is actually with any oem cd. they stuck hotfixes in there and that is throwing this process off. i have called dell numerous times asking for an xp sp2 cd only to be told to buy one. therefore i have vowed never to buy anything from dell, or even associated with them. dell = satan of computer industry. from now on, i will build all my computers. and the laptops i buy will come from ibm. hooah
  16. is is possible to use owa with server 2003 pop3 service, or does owa only work with exchange?
  17. don't know if anyone has posted this stuff, but i came across this while trying to extract itunes's msi file. http://documentation.installshield.com/rob..._EXECmdLine.htm
  18. http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/hacked_files.htm
  19. this tool you used, did it merely delete the registry entries for the services? if so i can send you an exported registry key from my computer.
  20. did you use a dell oem windows xp pro cd? if so, what is the P/N at the bottom of the cd? i use P/N 1R594. it doesn't allow me to slipstream SP 2. i have to delete out the hotfixes that were done. then after i slipstream, and try to install, we get the usbehci.sys error.
  21. I'm running a 2003 server. i configured ftp and opened the ports on my router/firewall. when i bring up the ip/dns name from the internet, it will prompt for username and password. so i know that the browser is making contact with the server. i put in my credentials and hit login, but it won't log me in. i have tried right clicking on the ftp site, going to permissions, and made sure that my account has permissions. then i right clicked on the ftp site, went to properties. the ip address is set to "all unassigned". tcp port is 21. on security accounts i unchecked "allow anonymous connections". directory security is set to "grant access". i have two accounts setup to use this. i've tried the administrator and the account i setup especially for this. neither will work. it just continually prompts for username and password. this is accessible from the local network if i type in ip address of server, but i need to access from the outside internet. can anyone help me? i'm lost and i really need to get this working. edit: i feel kind of mad and kind of embarrassed. turns out that opening port 21 tcp only on the router didn't work! i hate linksys routers. for some reason i had to do port 20 and 21 tcp and udp. i don't think it has to be setup like that. anyways this thing works finally....
  22. tyson, if you install xp, then install sp2 it will work fine. for some reason the a**holes at dell decided to screw us over for any future service packs. i think all avenues have been tried and there is no resolution for this problem. maybe you could call up dell and ask for an xp cd that already has sp2 slipstreamed.
  23. hahaha! too late i voted for the null option! lol. i have used both pioneer and lg drives before. as with any optical drive i have purchased, they all seem to perform the same. i haven't had any major malfunctions. i would only purchase the pioneer if you are swayed by brand name manufacturers. lg makes a lot of products, but they don't have the reputation that pioneer has.
  24. there are usb kvm switches??? WOW!! thanks for that guys!!! now here's a really good question....is there a usb/ps2 kvm switch? and wow that belkin kvm is pretty expensive. i paid like $20 for mine. it's an iomega. works pretty good for my winxp and server (server 2003) computers. is it worth the money on that belkin kvm?
