i have downloaded a couple of bootscreens from themexp.org and most come with sp2 compliant versions. as for 2003, im not sure. you should probably try neuro42's suggestion. IMPORTANT!! : looks like themexp.org bundles spyware with the downloads. please be aware that installing these files may put unwanted crap on your computer. this is sad because this site didn't used to be like that. now i gotta find another good site for themes and stuff.
-
good to know asta! so is there anyway to make them compliant for sp2?
-
well from what i can gather the boot screen is kept in a file called ntoskrnl.exe. and on the xp cd, it's in the i386 folder as ntoskrnl.ex_ so, you should download a bootscreen. do the makecab command to take it from ntoskrnl.exe to ntoskrnl.ex_ then copy it to the i386 folder overwriting the existing one there (be sure to back it up) then voila - a new boot screen. disclaimer: i have not tested this, so do this at your own risk! lol

Install XP FROM a USB Hard Drive (Possible?)
aresgodofwar replied to SilverBulletUK's topic in Windows XP
what's there to bump? your bios has to support the feature, then it has to have the boot files on it. -
that should be microsoft. if you are that worried about it, you can call microsoft for free. i have had to call several times. usually hold time isn't very bad. maybe 1 or 2 minutes.

add another dope that submitted the info, but didn't get a download. (me)

What to do when you don't get your ebay item
aresgodofwar replied to army20's topic in General Discussion
report his a** to ebay. for future transactions, i think there is some kind of protection you can get through ebay or paypal or something. i never paid for it until i got screwed just like you. i hope you didn't send a LOT of money. also, it is generally a good idea to only do business with established members of ebay. look for lots of positive feedback and such. -
@www if you want i can talk you through the basics. we could netmeeting or something if you have a mic. or over msn. just get it touch with me via email. its in my profile. @Astalavista ok.....

since i discovered this program here at MSFN, i am obsessed. i find myself writing scripts to play jokes on fellow employees. there's not a more great way to waste company time! does anyone else have cool scripts they wrote besides installers?

HANS, you need to set NTFS permissions for the folders. right click the folder>properties>security. then set up the permissions as you see fit. voila.

i work at a helpdesk for PSEG. i seen this happen on computers before. i believe it is spyware related. those asses are getting smarter. their software deletes these files on boot, so other programs can't be installed to remove the spyware. DEATH TO SPYWARE CREATORS

when opening the dll file, under stringtable: 2,3,4 are Windows XP Pro 13,14 are Windows Servers 19,20,21,22 are Windows XP Home 26, 27 are Windows XP 64 Bit 1,5,63 aren't really specific. /n seems to break to a new line with the text. looks like MS just coded one winntbbu.dll to work with the different versions of XP.
-
well i believe that any software or hardware you install has to be coded to specifically work in a 64 bit environment. so i would count out all games. and a lot of software. i don't remember if xp 64 was supposed to emulate 32 bit or not. if it does, im sure it's half a** like 16 bit was in xp.

command line for making a schortcut ?
aresgodofwar replied to Anon5710's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
np. sometimes it helps to think about the wording for a minute, then search. for me, web searching was a difficult art to master because i have to change the way i would word things to the way it should be worded, or what not. i don't always think in the same way other people do. B) -
you can install windows from a variety of places. network, cd, hard drive, etc. what you are proposing should work. is the second partition ntfs or fat?
-
update/reinstall the drivers?

command line for making a schortcut ?
aresgodofwar replied to Anon5710's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
well here is what i found when searching google.com http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBM/tip6000/rh6035.htm and http://www.robvanderwoude.com/index.html hope that helps. maybe you could search google next time? those results i got easily by searching on "create shortcut from command line" -
i doubt you'll get support for a P2P utility here. MSFN stays away from pirating software.
