  1. Thanks for the direct link, its a great article. I read your post once where you mentioned that even the full potential of 16 bits has not been fully explored. My question is: To add new end-user features, 16 bit will require more coding and then it would require more processing power then the same feature written to take advantage of 32 bit or even 64 bit, am i right?
  2. Ok, Thanks. Where else would i go? I am still going to wait a little longer though......
  3. Ok, Dual core has 2 cores in one processor. Nice thing. But why is Intel sticking with 32 Bit with dual core processors, when AMD is already shipping dual bits(just made it up he he) 32 and 64 bits processors?
  4. I am really lazy today, yet to buy an upgrade for my 7 year old system. And just when i was browsing intel website Core 2 duo and core and quad processors i wondered what these things are? So my question is do these processors have 2 processors in them like 2 in 1. dual core???
  5. TNT2 has some severe problems with 71.84, degrade your drivers to lower version. 44.xx drivers are nice. Also 40.xx drivers also are good. Link to download: http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_archive.html
  6. Hello, i installed performance.ini but it is associated with hard driver thrashing. There was no difference in speeds infact slower when i installed all those tweaks. (I did modified them according to my needs after reading MDGX link) The tweaks which were present previously were MaxFileCache, fixed swap file size and conservativeswapfileusage=1. These gave me the best possible performance. I did not tested each setting 1 by 1, i might do that in future, sorry for that.
  7. IMO: There are no alternatives to Windows if you like Gaming. Windows98SE is compatible with Hardware till 2005 and Games till 2005. Windows 2000 is very good option, but it requires 256 MB to start going. All operating systems following Windows98SE are slower but they have new features. I will stick to Windows98SE for few more years.
  8. NL-Stitch: I have a question: There will be updates to all the programs that have been added in your Jackhammer project. How often do you intend to update that list with updated programs, and also will we have to download 1.6 GB of Windows Jackhammer every time you update it.
  9. I may be wrong, but I think that: 1) NL-Stitch put a lot of work in his project and was so kind as to share the product of his work. 2) You may like or not like it. 3) You are free to download and use it or not. 4) Bashing NL-Stitch or his project for not being "the project" you wish it was or for not being "the project" you expected seems, besides vaguely unpolite, also uncalled for and not really constructive. So, even if most probably I'm not going to download or use it, thanks NL-Stitch for sharing your work . jaclaz Thats right. I have a lot to learn. I think i should start again. Good work NL-Stitch. Here's my list of few favorite programs: EDITED 1. Foobar 0.8.3 (Fastest and simplest audio player) 2. Restoration 2.5.14 (Undelete deleted files, again very simple and fast) 3. CCleaner (Registry cleaner and junk files deletion) 4. Daemon tools (Virtual CD creator) 5. Partition saving. (Allows a partition to be saved and restored, i use it to do a fresh installation of Windows 98 on a formatted disk)
  10. Welcome back Gape. And we understand that you had some health problems. As you know yourself you should start slowly. I loved your service pack for: 1. Convenience 2. Size 3. Options 4. Windows 2000 scheme (I loved it).

Here is my system Processor: P III 933 Mobo: i810e Ram: PC 100 128 MB Hard driver: 5400 RPM 10 GB Video Card: TNT 2 M64 32 MB PCI Sound card: ALS 4000 All these things are compatible with windows 2000. Currently i have Windows 98 SE and i play games MOHAA and Max payne. These are the games i will be playing in future till i upgrade my hardware. Also i use Firefox as my browser. 1. Should i upgrade to Windows 2000 or not? 2. Which service pack should i install? 3. Which services should i remove? using nlite. Thanks for any suggestions.
  15. Hey thanks man, i am trying them right now.
  16. But the latest 77.72 drivers do not support TNT2. There is a non-WHQL version and WHQL version at this site ftp://download.nvidia.com/Windows/ . The WHQL version does not support TNT 2. Anyway thanks for reply. I am using 40.72 drivers with it as Lunac in above posts points out that they are the fastest forceware drivers available.
  17. Hello, may i ask what are the best Windows98SE drivers for TNT 2 M64 PCI 32 MB video card? Question 2: I have observed that Windows 9x vxd drivers are much more faster then Windows98SE WDM on Windows98SE and also on Windows ME. So i was thinking that if i could download ME drivers for my card from this site ftp://download.nvidia.com/Windows/ Would they work? i mean be faster then original Windows 98SE drivers?

    98 to ME

I did encountered some BSOD with MDGX's Win98SE2ME, and those were the same errors when i installed Windows ME. I think my computer has some old hardware in it which might have have caused the problem. But with MDGX's 982ME i never was able to get my power profiles to work properly. Rest of the stuff was nice.
  19. Hey Soporific, the link to your thread is saved as my Bookmark. So whenever i suspect that you might have updated some stuff i check it right from my bookmarks. May be everybody else would have done the same.
  20. Hello, i am looking for some good benchmarking sites comparing Windows 98SE with Windows 2000. I read some where that Windows 2000 and XP because of there better memory management give more FPS in games! Is it true? But just marginally. Any help will be appreciated. Also nlited benchmarks would be preferable. Edit: 1 I found one using OpenGL: Here's the link: http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums...590919901/inc/1 Still looking for D3D benchmarking. Edit: 2 Found another link with differences between Windows 98 Drivers and Windows 2000 Drivers: http://www.anandtech.com/printarticle.aspx?i=1422 The above article is from 2001, its 2006 now, can anybody confirm if the drivers situation has changed or not? Please?
  21. Same here. OMG. Nativetexan, you should not use your age online as an excuse. BTW your achievements are really great.
  22. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=70783 A long discussion, which will keep you busy for few days. Hope it helps.
