  1. Nearly all of the bad-eyesight folks that I know all "swear by" anything-and-everything "dark mode". Why not try a "dark theme"? ie, something like this works in Supermium in XP+POS x86 -- https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/dark-theme-for-google-chr/annfbnbieaamhaimclajlajpijgkdblo Normal Supermium: Supermium + above-link'd Dark Theme:

  2. #2 is done. By setting new tab pages to Luxxle this largely covers for the fact that SM allows default search engines only if chosen from a small list. #3 remains frustrating: I cannot be the only one using SM with less than perfect vision and as far as I can tell all themes and color scheme customizations give fine gray lines and white icons on a very light background. There may be worse scemes for visibility but it's hard to think what they'd be. However I expect that as SM becomes more popular this will get fixed. Windows and virtually all of the popular Win brwosers over the years had this right: SM (or Chromium's?) new bad idea won't go without an option indefinitely. Unless, of course, I'm still missing something obvious. That could happen. #1 The software you suggest is Win 7 and later I believe. My 'modern' machine (this one) is XP. I can probably do the edits by hand but I'll wait until I'm sure everything is stable. Though come to think of it most other browsers are capable of setting themselves as the default so switching away from SM should be easy if ever needed. Supermium is tops. Thanks for the help! Back to working on Win 98 on a Dell 4600.

  3. As a general rule of thumb, I historically REFUSE to download "trusted" content from http, especially "security" software! The version.ini does report v23. I will install into an XP *VM* later this morning. Several extracted-retain-timestamp files are dated from only FIVE DAYS ago.

  4. @Dave-H Thanks for your screenshots! They are much better. But to get all entries in terms of Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0, you have to enter the string ".NET Framework 4" into the search form since there are entries for the main installers, security updates and normal updates. With my search string ".NET Framework 4", you get all of them. Additionally, the number of all entries found will be shown (very important for quick comparison). And using small icons reduces the height of the lines which means less pages. All can be done even in the free version. If doing a repair or reinstallation, the current date and time will be assigned to all processed entries.

  5. This one I installed years ago when it was released. But I don't think that other Visual C++ versions are responsible for the issues I noticed regarding Panda Dome under Windows XP. In the meanwhile, I have updated Visual C++ 2010 to version 10.0.40219.473 but the issue is still there. Additionally, I repaired my Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 installation as there was indeed a problem. But even this doesn't seem to have any effect on my issue.

  6. First of all, thanks for uploading the files! I was surprised to learn that there is supposed to be a .NET Framework version 4.0.30320 for Windows XP. I couldn't find anything about it in any official source. In any case, your installer "Microsoft .NET 4.0.30320 Full" is the same one I have, and it has the number 4.0.30319.1. Presumably, at least for Windows XP, there is no version 4.0.30320. You can find out your current version installed with the following command: reg query "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full" /v Version Although it is actually Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0.30319, I have nevertheless found a reference to version 4.0.30320 in Windows XP. Apparently, the Client Profile and the Extended are assigned exactly this version number:

  9. Absolutely true observation , confirmed by many years of my personal experience , with one exception , don't forget that the load these days is nowhere near the load we had in the 90s , these days we have power hungry GPUs. I don't think there was something like that in 1993 , so the results would be much different and Delta wouldn't seem so good , I guess . If you want older mobos/PSUs to last longer , just turn them on once in a while.

  10. Hello , that's a very fine research ! I can confirm it also works with MPC-HC (a very similar player , also free) . By any chance , do you know how to force DTS HD with MPC-HC ? It's quite OK in terms of picture quality , but it's sound defaults to simple DTS (compressed core or even PCM stereo) , if any HD track is selected in options. VLC plays DTS HD with receiver just fine . But with MPC-HC , not . Thanks.
