  1. ^ Understood, I appreciated all the help, but I'm not a 'typist' and never really good at spelling and it aint getting any better. But, the following worked; Default Programs Editor https://defaultprogramseditor.com/

  2. The two programs I use for this area of trouble, usually to un-associate a program I've accidentally used forgetting to uncheck the, annoyingly, Windows checked by default 'make default' tick box rather than what is described here as being the problem are:- https://defaultprogramseditor.com/ and https://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/Unassoc.shtml I was thinking that you could try to un-associate everything already associated with opening a .pdf then with that clean slate trying to associate the program wanted. I find it a bit unusual that a 'proper' PDF viewer like Adobe Reader, Sumatra or Foxit are not amongst the options as usually, arrogantly, Adobe will assign itself by default to open any .pdf file type. So even if you use something else you'd expect to see it in the list. Whether these programs will help in this case I do not know but they're useful tools to have particularly as they both work with XP and Win7.

  3. Try modifying the entries with this program https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/file_types_manager.html it's more advanced than the default open with gui. Maybe try this pdfxedit on another computer/VM look up how it's getting automatically set there and if it works replicate that config

  4. What shall I say? You're welcome! Of course! BTW I assume the button "Check for Updates" worked for me in the past because automatic ActiveX download was present at that time. What do you think? I did not have such problems which have been reported here.

  5. Hi @maile3241! You know my installation of XP is a very old one. So in the past there was no need to install XP freshly or to reinstall and therefore no chance for me to confirm your solution relating to automatic ActiveX download. But that's what I usually do before posting. Anyway I have updated my guide and linked your solution with reference to you. As we have seen some posts above it works and that's what matters.

  6. Thanks a lot for replying! Therefore the winner is @xpandvistafan ! Ok, just a joke. I assume it is caused definitely by VM (Microsoft!). I have seen these connections in @mina7601's screenshots some posts above too. She lets XP running in a VM either.

  7. No, thanks a lot. I'm just thinking about your connections coloured green in ProxHTTPSProxy's log window. I assume it is caused by running XP in a VM but I need a confirmation of someone using VMs too. And the winner is @maile3241

  8. @maile3241 Once more. I wonder why in @sunsetsansyy's log window green connections exist to urls outlook.live.com and login.live.com. Is that due to the fact that Windows XP is running in a VM? I do not have these connections, I have a real installation of XP. You are running VMs too. So why these connections?

  9. Hello , this topic is about Vista , so no discussion of any others like 6.1 . Do we really need to involve the moderators ? Hi , could you be more specific about your CPU model ? 'cause I don't have anything , even remotely similar to what you've just described. Today I had a chance to test on Pentium G4620 and everything was pretty much similiar to Haswell Pentium . Logon bug from time to time , yes , but rarely . Audio and licensing services may not start , yes , but rarely too. And the machine was quite usable. Services could be started manually.

  10. Banking sector is being heavily regulated by governments , right ? So write to the bank and demand to show you the >federal< law which clearly states that this form of identification is required. I'm guessing there will be none . As my understanding goes, your country is in the EU , so file a complaint to Brussels , BELGIUM . Also , I think we need to stop being on their leash . Today we do what they want , tomorrow it will identification by DNA , have your tried using ordinary paper money ? Official links and info from their page below : "EU policy areas with a direct effect on the rights of European consumers, such as banking..." https://ec.europa.eu/info/policies/consumers/consumer-protection_en You have the right (Article 227 TFEU) to submit a petition to the European Parliament : http://ec.europa.eu/justice/citizen/index_en.htm If you consider that the European Commission has not dealt with your request properly, you may contact the European Ombudsman(Articles 24 and 228 TFEU). http://www.ombudsman.europa.eu/home.faces

  11. That's what I was talking about , as you can see , not only games are affected . I had started to notice such things when the first line of i3/i5/i7 arrived . Some of my progs just started to throw errors or won't launch at all. It was 10 or 11 years ago , I'm not sure I'll remeber which programs exactly , but debuggers and stuff like that don't usually like i3/i5/i7. I just bought a Pentium , problem solved . But nowadays Pentiums are stuffed with something that makes then behave like i3/i5/i7. Also some similar problems arose for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hooking . You may want to try this bug on a plain and simple Haswell Pentium. But what about 32-bit Vista which loads perfectly fine ? It doesn't use this "timer " too ?

  12. The aforementioned driver (the one he claims to have modified for Vista usage) is still present and the kernel too. This driver is the same as ofiicial , except he replaced a couple of digits in the inf file.
