This is a continuation of my previous nVidia tutorial, but this time I decided to do it for folks with the extended kernel by @win32! As we know, the last officially supported driver was from the early May of 2016. This one is from 2017 ! Some may say it's a miracle , you betcha ! This driver was tested and confirmed fully working on 600, 700, 900 and 1000 series. Except the cheapest GT1030. You need the ex-kernel installed, I tested on a clean Vista with the updates up to 03.2019.+ the kernel. It's not allowed to share modded copyright protected material here, hence the new topic with the precise instructions follows. Tools you need :Driver Signature Enforcement Override, Universal Extractor and any HEX editor you like. Go and grab here: https://www.softpedia.com/get/Compression-tools/Universal-Extractor-Bioruebe.shtml Download here, here it is. NVIDIA - Display - 23-Feb-2017 12-00-00 AM - 21.21.13.7878 https://catalog.s.download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/driver/drvs/2017/03/93376a87-7e31-472c-9236-b5f013236705_d5f668ad398d7409e8a2efa8c6d107ef7fbba1fe.cab and extract with Universal Extractor to an empty folder : In the nv_dispiwu.inf replace NTamd64.6.1 with NTamd64.6.0 and [NVIDIA_Devices.NTamd64.6.1] with [NVIDIA_Devices.NTamd64.6.0] Having difficulties to do so ? Then read how to Modify NVIDIA Driver .INF Files https://null-src.com/posts/nvidia-notebook-driver-inf-mod/post.php PATCHING : Extract nvlddmkm.sy_ file and patch the nvlddmkm.sys . 1 - search for and REPLACE 0000080000AAD5 with 00000800004B72 2 - search for and replace 84C0740AB8BB0000C0 with 84C0EB0AB8BB0000C0 and save. RENAME the patched file back to nvlddmkm.sy_ and place into the installer folder. Run CMD as ADMIN bcdedit.exe /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS bcdedit.exe /set TESTSIGNING ON bcdedit /set nointegritychecks on Reboot . Run SETUP.exe and install the driver. Do NOT restart . Run Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider and choose "sign a system driver" Sign this file ! C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\nvlddmkm.sys Reboot , go and play. DISCLAIMER Some might not like the use of additional software that may or may not be flagged by their KGB/FSB "antivirus". Per various sources inluding me , permanent disabling of drivers signature enforcement is just not possible since Vista , so you'd have to use Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider 1.3b and I'm not resposible in any way ! When I posted the links, they were still alive, and I already installed the 32-bit version. But now, I will remove the dead links from my post..2 points

First, try to forcefully set the full RGB mode. Second, 10-bit is only supported for their pro-grade cards, no wonder you see the black screen, even if the monitor supports it. Third, newer cards are tend to be overbright, so again no wonder there's a drastic distortion, they simply distort the vibrancy. Try lowering the digital vibrancy setting.1 point

WinRAR 5.61 should definitely work on Windows XP 32-Bit, I shan't attach any links due to the recent very strange attention to my account. Just search for WinRAR 5.61 (Windows XP 32-Bit) yourself, easy to find.1 point

I normally don't do merging in web front-end so I can't say anything about it. and as I said in https://github.com/rmottola/Arctic-Fox/issues/163#issuecomment-1784526983 I have to test with my own changes in arcticfox, and manually generating diffs/changesets patch files to apply them to my trees. if you want to revert any part of them, you may need to do similar things like what I did, and reversely applying them for a revert.1 point

TBH, I did all the steps of my guide manually. The verification of each step is much easier doing it this way. And keep an eye on SFC! I switched it off in my system, forever.1 point

If you receive this stop code and Windows doesn't boot forward into the OS, try the following resolutions: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/debugger/bug-check-0x7b--inaccessible-boot-device1 point

I assume no one has attempted it. And I think there won't be anyone trying that. The only person that could realise such a port is not interested in an x64 build. TBH, I don't believe there is any acute urgency for doing so, either.1 point

I am old school. Thus, I prefer to have my tab bar directly below the navigation and bookmarks bar as it was in the older days. Anyone who uses UXP browsers or old Firefox versions will be familiar with the Tab Utilities Phoenix or Tab Mix Plus extensions, which make changing the position of the tab bar in these browsers child's play. Interestingly. there are also Tab Mix Plus versions for the newer Firefox versions. Unfortunately, these do not work with Mypal 68; at least Firefox in version 78 is required.1 point

The answer is yes. There are scripts to move the tab bar to the bottom of the browser window. Have a look here: Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

Custom CSS scripts to modify the GUI of Mypal 68 Here is a screenshot showing Mypal 68 with the tab bar below the navigation and bookmarks bar: And here is a screenshot showing Mypal 68 with the tab bar on the bottom of the window: All was done by using already existing, custom CSS stylesheets to move the tab bar to a desired position. This time, I only used scripts from CustomCSSforFx. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

Apply the flags before, on a clean new profile, also some versions of Chrome understand --disable-encryption, not --disable-encryption-win. The second one is the same, namely --disable-machine-id.1 point

Best Buy? Is this a joke? They don't do direct international orders, they never did, there is, however, not direct weird scheme to ship to a U.S. address, and only then to your country through a third party! I'm sure you understand (or don't?) it involves more money/taxes/payments/conversions from one currency to another. in the end, you will never see such a price, esp. if we are to assume you're from Sweden, one of the most highest taxes countries. To spare you some time, scroll to the bottom, or see at the start: "Price: 400, 500, 699 Euro". And now convert to USD, at the rate of that time, which was 1.4 (or 1.5?) USD per One Euro! A short summary of all models/prices in Europe for that laptop, including the cheaper models. https://www.notebookcheck.net/Toshiba-Satellite-C55D-Series.148005.0.html1 point

I didn't say it was your ISP, I suggested you could be blocked by Cloudfare hosting. Why such thoughts? Simply because it works fine with my personally ported version of 360 (using my launcher that I wrote for it myself). My version can be shared privately, just saying.1 point

@Monroe! Thanks again for reporting that Malwarebytes v1.75.0.1300 is able to receive most recent definition updates in 2023! That are really great and good news. Although updating of definitions failed initially when instalIing this version, I found yet a way to get the update function of this version working again under Windows XP. It was a bit tricky but it works now such as you reported. I will write an article about that very soon. Thanks again! You are simply great.1 point
-
Until 2020, Malwarebytes offered offline updaters for definition updates. Its file was named mbam-rules.exe. I am looking for the most recent, i.e., last officially provided version. All possible, working antimalware programmes targeting Windows XP are important to be listed here. If Malwarebytes v1.75.0.1300 is still receiving definition updates, although it was abandoned years ago, it would be unbelievable and great. I personally liked this version very much.1 point

Well , thanks, I'm gonna replace it then, after the weekend is over.1 point

Well, I unpacked the GT1030 and tried it ... well to say I'm not satisfied - is to simply say nothing. The picture has purplish (reddish) tint , like on the American NTSC standard with purple faces, like on VHS/DVDs. Is it supposed to be this way ? I don't know. The 10-bit colour setting doesn't work, it leads to a blank balck screen.1 point
-
@win32, hi, so I bought that pile of garbage we were discussing a while back, I mean G1030, it was on pre New Year sale. So now I can test Pascal drivers, would you be interested to join ? I'll not be mad if not, 'cause I bought it only out of boredom, just for fun. I chose the fastest SC version with GDDR5. If one could call that thing "fastest". xD I mean compared to the usual GT1030 with GDDR4 memory.1 point

The list of supported devices is in the topic. EDIT: But you may try , of course.1 point

You mean you will do us another driver ?1 point

Thanks ! But what are you gonna "try" ? I wrote except G1030 , no ?1 point

I guess it could this be the reason for NVCPL not starting, no ?1 point
-
So I started to dig deeper the 385.69 and compared with a usual Vista (non-kernel one). These all are inside of the NVCPL pack. NvUI.dll missing in SHELL32.DLL Shell_NotifyIconGetRect nvWsS.dll missing 345 (0x0159) "N/A" in COMCTL32.DLL nvxdapix.dll missing the following in USER32.DLL GetDisplayConfigBufferSizes QueryDisplayConfig DisplayConfigGetDeviceInfo SetDisplayConfig Do we have all of these in the kernel ? Thanks1 point
-
Maybe, I also have a feeling, my BIOS is watching me . Jokes aside, I can't update the default 32-bit Vista on that PC. While I absolutely can the 64-bit version. Weird, right ? The only way for me is to sign the drivers, doesn't matter whether the kernel installed or not.1 point

So how do you live without the ability to calbrate the colour settings !? Then you ought to try this 378.78 I modded, a good driver indeed.1 point

@win32, so I took the whole (original) 398.11 package, cleaned it up with a special programme (removed telemetry , etc) and left only the driver , HD audio , CPL and the installer, then replaced the patched files and guess what , the installer says it failed. Re-checked on win7 - the package works ! Ideas ? Later I modded the 382.16 and several between 385 and 388 and they all worked, but without the CPL ! Damn . They can only be installed via the manager . If I forcefully install the CPL along with any driver newer than 378.78 , it hangs up at the orb and I have to do a hard reset . So something in the CPL itself is broken , ideas ? thanks.1 point

It seems I've found what was the culprit !!! At least for me , it's the links that some of the members inlcude in their signature . 360 browser is indeed good, it marks additional resources as insecure and the browser is absolutely right , because I don't have any cert. for that resources. For example , it shows this warning on jaclaz's posts , I've opened some of his recent comments and I've got this warning right away ! Why the browser marks these resources as insecure , it's simple : no certs. With all due respect to this wonderful member . jaclaz.altervista.org http://jaclaz.altervista.org/Projects/freedom_of_skin.htm P.S. @beansmuggler , it makes no sense to compare the behaviour of Firefrox and any other chrome browser because firefox has it's own cert. system !1 point
-
Well , you're absolutely right ! The first rule of the internet : trust no one ..... including Microsoft , lol. So how do you update your certs then ? By manually unpacking cab files and installing them , right ? I gather you don't trust that 3rd party tool suggested by @UCyborg too ? Care to elaborate ? Thanks. P.S. Legacyfan's certs are legit , 100% legit , I checked . He just wrote a bat file to install them all at once as admin. I would show them to you , but the admins might be against it , since they already deleted his pack earlier.1 point
-
Well , for me it was an obvious choice when the problems with online shopping started . As you may know, Vista was cut off from browsing along with XP in 2016 . So I started looking for a browser long before the famous extended kernel project by @win32 started and found UC browser and 360 (a bit later) , of course I had to spend a big deal of time writing my own launcher and removing the telemetry . I think I shall continue to use 360EE in the future . Why ? The extended kernel doesn't help with extensions, like at all . For example , you can't install adblock on anything higher than Chrome 60 , terribly outdated. I did manage to pull a trick and forced the adblock with version 81 , but it is older than 360EE which is based on 86 . Do I have to explain any further ? So using the ex-kernel makes no sense for me , at least until the problem with extensions is gone . And with 360 I can use whatever I like/want .1 point
-
Says who ? Link , please ! I read it was something like "also works on XP" .1 point
-
Didn't work for me on Vista , even though I have no updates . It pulled some (but not all certificates) , for example twitter was still giving me errors . The only solution that helped, read my comment above.1 point
-
Oh man , even though I put a like on your post again , It's just sometimes hard to follow what you're trying to tell . If the above from your comment is true , how come you say you don't see any cert. errors with your XP then ? As for me , I'm seeing this "unsecure warning" right now and sometimes (better say from time to time) only on this website and only when logged in ! @UCyborg , I read you didn't see it , was it when you not looged in ? As for the other cert. errors , I think I already wrote here that I have none (except for this) with 360EE , since I installed the cert. pack by @legacyfan.1 point
