  1. Hey, Folks! Finally got my Vista system back running again after nearly 4 months. Anyhow, just thought I'd pop by and post how updating went. May 2019 KB4474419 SHA-2 code signing support KB4499180 pcicompatforserialnumber IE-KB4498206 .NET (KB4498964) KB4495609 Jun 2019 KB4474419 SHA-2 code signing support V2 IE-KB4503259 KB4503287 Jul 2019 KB4507461 IE-KB4507434 .NET KB4506975 Aug 2019 KB4512491 IE-KB4511872 KB4517301 (fix for the VB/VBA/VBScript bugs) All installed without issue. So far, so good. P.S. Have MS stopped offering updates through Windows Update? Did a couple of checks earlier, and after about 10 secs, I get the all clear - "Windows is up to date / There are no updates available for your computer".

  3. Hi, @Vistapocalypse , Apologies for being MIA these past few months. My Graphics Card bit the dust on my Vista system at the end of April, and I've been spending most free time since, on a Win 7 lappy, brushing up on Linux in prep for what seems an inevitable move come next January. Anyhow, I'm finally bought a replacement card and am backup and running. Just finished installing the last 4 months Win updates. With all the uncertainty going on with Sandboxie atm, plus the reports of license activation issues, I wasn't in any rush to update - but went ahead anyway. Happy to report all went smoothly, Sandboxie 5.30 on Vista HP x86, running perfect. RE; your SB issue, have you tried re-installing per the advice from your link above. It looks initially like the SB driver didn't install. Is SbieDrv.sys present in program files/ sandboxie? Have you still got Shade installed? Any other security software besides Avast? Can you open notepad.exe Sandboxed?

  4. You download Intel's Windows 7 drivers and: a) start modding, or b) install them on Windows 7 and apply WinClient5270's Make Windows 7 look like Vista transformation pack.

  5. I've now found another workaround which doesn't involve everything in Firefox using ProxHTTPSProxy, which might be a bit more elegant. I'm now using the "Automatic proxy configuration URL" option in the Firefox network settings and pointing it at a js file in my Firefox profile folder containing- function FindProxyForURL(url, host) { // use proxy for specific domains if (shExpMatch(host, "www.sky.com|assets.sky.com|helpforum.sky.com")) return "PROXY 51.38.71.101:8080"; // by default use no proxy return "DIRECT"; } This redirects the three Sky URLs in the HOSTS file to a proxy server at 51.38.71.101 which seems to work fine. Of course it does rely in that free proxy server always being online! Anyone any more thoughts on this? Cheers, Dave.

  6. Thanks @jumper! That doesn't work I'm afraid, the long delay comes back in Eudora with that entry. Is there any way of getting Firefox to bypass the HOSTS file? I don't need any sites (apart from MS Update of course) to work in IE, I wondered if it might be possible to get the sites working again in Firefox though, which would be fine. Incidentally, just for completeness, I got the Marks and Spencer e-mails working without the delay by adding - 127.0.0.1 int-asset1.marksandspencer.com 127.0.0.1 int-asset1.cxnmarksandspencer.com to the HOSTS file. That does not seem to affect the look or functionality of the main M&S website fortunately. Cheers, Dave.

  7. Earlier today, I was watching a Weather Network-produced segment on CBC News Network and noticed their fondness for Windows Server 2003 (R2?): It It is strange, considering that everything else on The Weather Network seems to run on 7 or 10. or at least the stuff like the touchscreen used by the on-camera personalities.

  8. Thanks for letting me know. NVIDIA drivers (as well as AMD GPU drivers) used to be covered in LVSFWV/2008, but I decided to move them here since I felt they would be more appropriate here since, although they are software (obviously), they are drivers pertaining to hardware listed here. I have added them back to the software list since I see no harm in doing so: I must admit that my knowledge of hardware/driver compatibility is pretty shaky compared to my knowledge of program support for Windows Vista, so suggestions to improve this list are welcome.

  10. I'm glad you're enjoying my transformation pack! I found it to be a practical solution for those that are using newer hardware incompatible with Windows Vista (such as Intel Haswell), or those that require newer software that don't work with Vista. The Windows 8.1 one isn't as accurate to the real Windows Vista due to changes in the shell/DWM compared to Windows 7 but it's still far better than anything achievable on Windows 10, where everything is such a broken mess and Microsoft insists on keeping any sort of customization impossible through forced updates that break your changes. As for me, personally though, I choose to stick with the original Windows Vista as I use Ivy Bridge hardware which works with Vista fine, and don't require anything that only runs on Windows 7 or later. I also find Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 to be faster and more stable than Windows 7 on the same hardware in most cases. Thank you for the kind words
