AsRock ALiveDual-eSATA2, Sockel AM2+, AGP/PCI-E x16

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Mode...SATA2&s=AM2

its very sad that this mainboard dont have Via chipset.:(

would be the win 98 solution.

but have a question, wich PCIe mainboards with wich combination of VGA (PCIe) worked ?

or do any1 have experience with VGA PCIe(or AGP) cards on win98?

probably with NVIDIA Cards with this unofficial driver

It has already been mentioned that GA-8I915P works with Radeon R3xx. At least one Nvidia model (6200) did not. Some said its because of "Turbo Cache".

It is not important. This MBO is Win 98 solution but it can be tricky.

Chipset of this MBO is ULI M1695 and Nvidia 3 and for both this chipset we are having Windows 98 drivers.

Because I think that everybody now know where to download Nvidia 3 chipset I will only write internet address for download of Uli M1695 Windows 98 drivers. This site is:

http://www.nvidia.com/page/uli_drivers.html

I am 90 % sure that this MBO is last Windows 98 MBO !!

I agree with Rjecina: this motherboard should work with Win98 because as far as I know two mobos based on M1695 chipset (939Dual-Sata2 and 939Dual-Vsta) can run it.

My PC is Core2Duo with i865 chipset (http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=775i65G&s=775 DDRI ???)

If you look internet page of ALiveDual-eSATA2 you will see in section:

Expansion / Connectivity

that on MBO there are:

2 x ATA133 IDE connectors (this is udma)

You can connect IDE hard drive and DVD rom.

For me this MBO is tricky because of drivers installation.

Problems are possible because in example ULI or Nvidia drives can refuse installation when they "see" that there is hybrid chipset. In my thinking Uli is not problem because he has always been only half of MBO chipset.

Problem will be Nvidia3 because this chipset (and drivers) has been created to be south and north bridge. What will installation do when she notice that north bridge is ULi1695 I do not know. If Nvidia3 drivers are writen OK everything will work if not you will need to make manual installation (I do not know how to do that)

thx again "Rjecina" (ispade mi dobar komšija :):hello: pozdrav od bivšeg muje od doboja :w00t: )

does any 1 have this board (ALiveDual-eSATA2) in combination with win 98

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Mode...SATA2&s=AM2

i can run on VIA (A8V Deluxe 939 ) with ultra dma driver (from VIAarena.com) about 55 MB /second HD Speed so i would like to keep that speed (at last with 40 MB/s probably could live with it) when i buy (ALiveDual-eSATA2) mainboard.

any 1 can HELP ?

Hi guys, I've been on a quest to find the best PC that can Support windows 98. Because dosBox works only for VERY old games and Virtual Windows sucks and doesn't support graphice well. The point of this PC is to be able to support the largest number of games possible. I'll be installing 4 or 5 Operating systems, which I've done before. Remember all those need for speed games, test drive, mech warriors, doon, wolfenstein, descnet1,2,3, etc? I want my PC to be super compatible. Most of these cannot be played in other systems than windows 98. And often, those that are compatible wiuth other OS, seem to have graphic problems. So this is why I want to build a PC like on these forums.

I've read through all your posts and I see many decent MOBO's with the support needed for windows 98. How would you compare your boards to the one I've found throughout my search?

These are all dual socket 940 opterons which can support two opteron 250, 252, 254 and 256 processors. Yes in other words these are server boards which support windows 98.

I currently have the K8t-master2-far7 board and a geforce OC 6800ultra (Fastest card with full windows 98 support)

Two other good MObo's with win 98 support and aGP are the " Tyan Thunder K8W S2885ANRF" and the "dk8n"

I was about to order two opteron 254's for my mobo since they're very powerful together and pay 200$ for 2 gigs pc400 ECC ram. I couldn't find any better, but now that I see this post, what do you think?

These boards have processors which surpass most, but the ram isn't the greatest.

so how would compare these boards to let's say the "4CoreDual-VSTA" or "AM2NF3-VSTA"?

There is one board that interests me GREATLY! And I would take it Right away if i knew it was compatible with windows 98

That's the "ALiveDual-eSATA2"

I can't find any windows 98 support for this, but this board seems perfect.

So does ANYONE know if this board will work with windows 98? I would reeaallly like this board if I could play all me and my friends old games on it.

This would probably end up being a board i'd keep for life.

See, even if this board doesn't support windows 98, it has support for windows 2000 and up with both an AGP slot and full PCI-e. If I use my geforce 6800 ultra, is there a way around playing games that really need windows 98?

Thank you very much.

Why not write email to AsRock and ask if this MBO will work with old Nvidia3 and Uli1695 Windows 98SE drivers ?

I wish:

I wrote them an email monday asking where it is possible to get them shipped into Canada and did not receive a reply. If they didn't bother writing a simple answer like that back to me for business, then I'm sure they won't bother with going through the trouble of answering technical questions.

And if they did, they'd probably only copy and paste the same specifications from their website in an email. That's what ALL companies do. Speaking to companies is like talking to a **** brick wall.

Anyways, if you want to add these four boards to the list of windows 98 compatible Motherboards:

K8T-master2-FAR (difficult to find)

K8T-master2-FAR7 (impossible to find in last 2 years)

DK8N (this is a legendary board. If you find this, which you most likely never will, don't expect it to be cheap)

Tyan Thunder K8W S2885ANRF (You will find this one in a few places if you look around. Problem is that it's a HUGE board. Need Server case)

These are all dual opteron socket 940's.

I still don't know if they'd be faster than today's AGP compatible baords.

Hi,

does anybody tried to install Win98 on mobos with new intel chipset P31/P35? The major advantage is 1333MHz FSB support for new 45nm Core 2 Duo CPUs. E.g. Gigabyte sells some nice and cheap mobos: http://www.czechcomputer.cz/product.jsp?artno=48787

This mobos combine P31 with well proven ICH7® which is not problem in Win98. I didn't studied differences of P31 and i945 but maybe very similar and INF would be possible to modify easily - add new PCI VID & DID. P35 is used in combination with ICH9® which hasn PATA port. This is done via Jmicron controller and I don't know if there are drivers for it.

I have a Gigabyte P35-DS3L mobo:

http://tw.giga-byte.com/Products/Motherboa...?ProductID=2599

+ an Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 CPU + a GeForce 7600 PCIx video card.

The tweaked Nvidia driver 82.69 seems to work ok, BTW:

http://www.mdgx.com/files/NV8269.EXE

I have managed to load Windows 98 SE on this mobo, but it is not stable yet.

I'm going to experiment with a few more tweaks, and will let you guys know if it works.

Tweak you may want to try if using a P31/P35 mobo with Win98 SE/ME:

Download INFINST.EXE [current version, works only with XP/2003/Vista] from Intel:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Filter_Res...x?ProductID=816

and open it in 7-Zip, PowerArchiver, WinRAR, WinZip or similar tool.

Extract the CAT + INF files from the WinXP (x86) subfolder.

Place them into your Windows 98 SE/ME INF subfolder:

%windir%\INF

[%windir% = usually C:\WINDOWS]

Reboot.

Allow Windows Hardware Wizard to recognize the new hardware [click OK/whatever].

Reboot.
