  2. Thanks jumper, but im already past that point, your method could be a potential workaround for specific cases. I'm at a point where the system.ini settings probably aren't as relevant as so much trying to figure out what could be the culprit to the misc. problems i was having, like ms dos prompt in windows not being able to launch with vbemp driver, etc. It could be that patch9x + fix95cpu v.3.0 + patchmem just dont do well together. i think i can uninstall patchmem to see if that might help with specific problems, but honestly, at this point, im really just trying to get specific programs to work, for example, irfanview 4.38 / 4.44 both have major problems and i cant get keyman6-2-183-0 to launch it's keyman application, mentioning kernel32.dll missing export to isdebuggerpresent, ( keyman32.dll and keyman.exe were culprits as viewed by dependency walker ). also the same missing export kernel32.dll isdebuggerpresent was mentioned by irfanview 4.44 when trying to select the installed plugins menu, and it happens when using the full plugins for 4.38 as well. both irfanview versions fail for loading any jpg file / about page, giving precisely the same error. i really wanted to get at least 4.32 or newer to work of irfanview, because of the webp plugin for example. bmp files work without problem, i tested both without any plugins, but they still fail with jpg files, even using the thumbnail mode to browse a directory with jpg files crashes the system. here is the error specifically from irfanview 4.38: I_VIEW32 executed an invalid instruction in module I_VIEW32.EXE at 0157:004dceb0. 3. Hello. I'm very new to Windows XP and MCE under the hood. I have imaged a few computers in the past with both, so I have a foundational understanding but there is an issue I'm encountering that I'm hoping to get help with. I purchased a used HTPC from the early 2000s from HP. After a few months, I was finally able to find the official Recovery Disc for it. I noticed that if I reimage the desktop with the original HDD, I get no issues. But the minute I try to use a WD Black drive or an SSD, I get a warning that the disc can't be used with that drive. One thing I was thinking was to dive into the files, so see if I could figure out a workaround. I opened up a few of the config/ini files with notepad++ and found some bits and pieces of information but nothing in regards to the Disc looking for the HDD ID in order to know what drive is installed. I'm sure HP did this on purpose. I can install another MCE or Windows XP installation ISO/USB with another drive, but I would like to use the recovery disc that installs all of the software associated with this specific computer. Would anyone know what I should look for and how I might be able to go about changing the config file so that I can image the recovery onto an SSD or at the very least a faster HDD? My machine is the HP z557 Digital Entertainment Center but the recovery disc for any of the z500 series should be similar (some models have different GPUs but mostly all the same). I did change the RAM and CPU, so I have the feeling that the HDD is the only thing it checks for.

  5. Short note. An honest user agent that shows Windows XP (NT 5.1) as the operating system, of course only if this is the user's OS, also works for the click box challenges: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:78.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/78.0
  6. > 40000h - 39999h is 26215h 40000h - 39999h is 6667h (or 26215 decimal). So try up to MaxPhysPage=3FFFF if 40000 isn't working.
  7. Our fellow member @soggi also hosts them on his web site if you wish to try it for faster downloads (scroll down about 3/4 of the way): https://soggi.org/misc/tools.htm
  8. I tried downloading NM28XP from this page at https://o.rthost.win/palemoon/palemoon-28.10.7a1.win32-git-20260725-d849524bd-uxp-30427c0213-xpmod.7z, as well as from https://rtfreesoft.blogspot.com/, but it didn't work. At first, the download speed was 1800 bytes/s and supposedly took 5 hours, but then it stopped completely.
  9. So you can go to these two sites with out CF interfearence? No, very strange websites. However, all my tested websites have worked properly. Check your turnstile compatibility: https://browser-compat.turnstile.workers.dev/ This test was advised on this website: https://developers.cloudflare.com/cloudflare-challenges/troubleshooting/challenge-solve-issues/ BTW, your posted websites perform a different test, not the standard one.
  10. In the meanwhile, test this link: https://www.sb-innovation.de/forum.php This one, for example, works fine for me.
  11. At the moment. I am on Android. I will go now to my Windows XP machine to check your links. Give me some minutes!
  12. Which version exactly of Mypal 78 are you using?
  13. So you can go to these two sites with out CF interfearence?
  14. Yes, Add-ons Manager, Extensions, uBO, slide the blue slider to left, turning off this tool (Disabled). Close browser, reopen, tried to go to site
  15. You said you disabled uBO. Really completely in the Add-ons Manager?
  16. Another option is to create a new and therefore untouched profile for testing. And perform a reconnect to get a fresh IP.
  17. Works perfectly on my system, and is the new solution, which has been confirmed to work.
  18. Yup, did it ... still no go!
  19. I also tested with uBlock Origin off, disabled, so it was not blocking anything, with no changes to cloudfare sites https://eztv.tf/home https://yts.gg/browse-movies/0/all/all/0/latest/0/en
  20. SSUAOs are always strings. Delete cache, all related cookies and website settings. Disable temporarily uBO if you're using it. And purge also the startup cache. Finally, close Mypal completely and start it again.
  21. Made these changes, even tried Ff78, still did not help. Does it need to be a STRING or BOOLEAN?
  22. First and foremost = *personal preference*. I've stated here at MSFN *dozens upon dozens* of times over the years that there is never a "right answer" to the question of "what browser is better", it *always always ALWAYS* boils down to PERSONAL PREFERENCE. **ALWAYS** My hardware is not the same as yours, my OS is not the same as yours, etc etc etc. What I need for my browser to do is not the same as what you need your browser to do, etc etc etc. Just off the top of my head - I am down to only two computers still running XP. Both of them run x64, I've not ran a 32bit OS in over twenty years. Whether it is x64 versus x86 or whether it is how my XP is configured for "subpixel font rendering" or "smooth edges of fonts" or whether it is the graphics card or driver, the list is endless, but Supermium has *SEVERAL* areas within the GUI where the font is *CUT OFF* on the very left edge, the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the very first letter is INVISIBLE, the font is SHIFTED to the left. Discussions do suggest, however, that the FONT CUT OFF ISSUE has been fixed. No clue, I don't follow Supermium's development on a daily basis. I *do* keep CURRENT with Supermium as fas as always keeping the MOST RECENT version (as often as I can) on my VirtualBox VMs. And therein is one of my biggest issues with Supermium. It does not "behave" the same from inside a VM as it does on real hardware. From inside a VM, it is absolutely **USELESS**. Let it sit idle for so much as two tiny minutes and it LOCKS UP, has to be task-killed. But if you don't catch it fast enough, the CPU is pegged to the point where you CAN *NOT* task-kill, you have to shutdown the VM entirely and restart. I've used HUNDREDS (literally!) of browsers over the years. Supermium is the *ONLY* one I have ever encountered that behaves this way inside a VM. I'm a "patient man" for the most part and these LOCK UPS gets me so INFURTIATED at the computer that I want to pick it up and THROW IT OUT THE WINDOW. And it's not like Supermium does that "rarely", it does it EACH AND EVERY TIME that I let it sit idle inside a VM. But it's not like it's just inside a VM, it is TERRIBLE on REAL HARDWARE also. But yeah, *MY* hardware is *NOT* the same as yours, so you may not have the same experience. All that aside, the e3k-blah fork is WORLD REKNOWN. It is FAR more KNOWN around the world! To the point of other DEVELOPERS turn to IT for GUIDANCE. You see it on Firefox forks and Chrome/Chromium forks alike, "new developers" will reference e3k-blah OFTEN. When they are debugging BUG REPORTS, the DEVELOPER will ask "is this bug also present in e3k version?", they will *NEVER* ask "is this bug present in Supermium?" The e3k forks have a VASTLY SUPERIOR REPUTATION in the circles that I run. That buys "trust" in my book. I do *NOT* "trust" Supermium, it CRASHES my VMs far too often. You literally cannot PAY ME to run Supermium on a daily basis!
  23. The e3k-blah fork by FAR. You couldn't PAY ME to use Supermium! To each their own, of course. Browser preference is (and always has been!) a purely personal preference. There never will be any "one size fits all" browser.
  24. Bingo. The mini_installer.exe file works fine after unpacking. thx. btw: I'm wondering which is better: supermium or the fork you suggested...
  25. Of course, you’re welcome to mention Cauldron Filthcare. This service keeps everyone away from MSFN, doesn't matter whether a malicious bot, a member or a guest. That’s the ultimate in security for a website. Here is a nice example: Cloudflare challenge loops and their solution P.S.: First of all, it would rather be advisable to completely delete all bot accounts on MSFN. And there are thousands of them. They are easy to find. Then, at some point, and as a positive side effect, the MSFN statistics would once again reflect reality more accurately. This was about the bot accounts weeks ago: https://msfn.org/board/topic/187801-msfn-and-its-lack-of-search-results-in-google-bing-and-all-search-engines-depending-on-them/page/8/#findComment-1287893 But who cares anyway ...
  26. ok so i was able to get patchmem /m to work in a late update phase, because the vmm.vxd file became present. it mentioned something about skipping vmm32.vxd due to no backup?, but i was able to patch vmm.vxd at least. while i was able to now set maxphyspage higher to as much as 44796, i could not get vbemp driver to load unless using like 30000 ( with 44796, it just went to a black screen ), and even then, when i did reboot, upon reaching desktop, windows complained on not having enough memory, and to quit one or more programs, which i found very odd, because i dont remember if i ever encountered this problem in perhaps a decade of testing win9x stuff. i tried vbemp as low as 10000, min/maxfilecache to 52224, no change for the ms dos problem, but was fixed by changing back to the standard vga display adapter driver. also for example using the following in my config.sys ( tested at least with maxphyspage=30000 ) prevented booting to windows, mentioning that initializing error relating to memory, needing to quit one or more programs. "DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS /NUMHANDLES=62 /TESTMEM:OFF DOS=HIGH,UMB DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS", though the config.sys stuff i just referenced are more optional, i dont absolutely need them, it's more of a tweak. all in all, it seems to point to patch9x as the problem, and i haven't even tested patch9x on windows 98SE yet with or without patchmem, which i'd be doing soon. outside these things, other programs / functions were mostly ok, i was able to run for example hwinfo32 6.42, TaskInfo2002 v. 4.0.0.51, process explorer 8.52.
