Mathwiz Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 What's new:add:*978207 - Unofficial Internet Explorer Cumulative Security Update (with uninstall) *972270 - Unofficial web fonts updateremoved:*976325 - Unofficial Internet Explorer Cumulative Security Update *961371 - Unofficial web fonts updateThere seems to be a small problem with the unofficial 978207 update. It puts an uninstall option on Add/Remove Programs, but it doesn't work: it references %windir%/inf/Q978207.inf, which doesn't get created.I don't think it's a big deal since I don't see a reason to uninstall 978207, but wanted to let you know.

CharlesF Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 For all non-english users:I never had used the MDIE6CU before, because I didn't wanted to loose the GUI in my favorite language. Now, here's what I did:installed the MDIE6CU 3.4and then replace all files 'on the top' with the last update of IE & OE in my own language, like explained in this thread: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/136563-latest-ms-ie6-security-update-breaks-windows-98.... and it works! Everything run fine and in the right language.Big thanks to Maximus Decim!
CharlesF Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 (edited) When I installed MDIE6CU 3.4, the only file I didn't allowed was VBSCRIPT.DLL, because I had already the version 5.6.0.8838 coming from the Win2000 Q981350 Fix (MS10-022)(I've got it from the Unofficial SCR569X.EXE).Is there a special reason why you don't use it in MDIE6CU (stability?) CharlesF Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 I have a permanent error with last MSHTML.DLL version 6.00.2800.1649 (French)at this page: http://www.dico-des-mots.com/definitions/wesh-gros.html and all similar page in that site.It is crashing my Internet Explorer 6 (with Maxthon). The page is opening fine in Opera.I have tried to disable javascript but it is still the same.I have also tried several compatibility mode (or disabling) KernelEx, but it is not helping.Previous version 6.00.2800.1646 of MSHTML.DLL, is doing the same thing. Could anyone try this page, to tell me what he get there?
dencorso Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 That page gives me the selfsame error (look at the "bytes at CS:EIP"), with IE6SP1, under Win 98SE (98SE2ME). It's not related to KernelEX, or to Maxthon, since I don't use either. On the other hand, with IE8, under Win XP SP3, the page loads OK.
CharlesF Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 (edited) That page gives me the selfsame error Thx dencorso for that quick reply! So, it is IE6SP1 related. They may have changed their code page recently. EDIT: This link is also crashing (with no warning) IE6 in XP Professional SP3! Edited November 3, 2010 by CharlesF
MDGx Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Confirmed, also. That web page crashed IE 6.0 SP3 while running WinXP SP3 on my PC. The OS was not affected. The URL works properly in all my other browsers [newest builds of Firefox, Chrome + Opera].I'm using MSHTML.DLL 6.00.2900.6003 English QFE build installed by KB982381 [MS10-035] security fix.Probable causes [iMHO]:1. The webmasters of that site may have server-side scripts to not allow IE 6.0 SPx or older. But crashing browsers is a sign of poor programming, there are simple javascript + css scripts to alert the user to install a newer/better browser, without crashing. ;-(2. Maybe there's a bug or exploitable flaw in MSHTML.DLL [so far looks like all 6.00.xxxx.xxxx versions/builds are affected]. And if that's true, I hope MS is working hard to fix it [oh, I forgot (not!)... IE6 support has been terminated, they don't care ;-)].3. Or could be a combination of both #1 + #2 above. [?]If any1's interested to study this further, these are that web site's local scripts:CSS:http://www.dico-des-mots.com/style.cssJS:http://www.dico-des-mots.com/functions.jsNothing there that can cause a browser crash [benign scripts]. But maybe their server settings/configs are to blame (?), in which case somebody should contact their webmaster and report this bug. This web server is using Apache + PHP 4.4.9:http://www.seoconsultants.com/tools/headers/The only other JS scripts on that page come from Google Ads:http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.jsand this adware hit counter [which I have disabled in my HOSTS file]:logv29.xiti.com/hit.xitiHTH
CharlesF Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Confirmed, also. Thanks MDGx .As reported here, I have a whole list of such sites. On the other hand, even after disabling javascript (from inside Maxthon), the crash is still present.
MDGx Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Confirmed, also. Thanks MDGx .As reported here, I have a whole list of such sites. On the other hand, even after disabling javascript (from inside Maxthon), the crash is still present. Then it's either / or:1. server side scripts [Apache htaccess/config, SSI, PHP, Cron, Zen, etc, or whatever MS server/ASP/IIS scripts they might have] in need of upgrading/changing/better programming = contact the webmaster for the site(s) you're interested to visit in the future.2. a flaw in all 6.x.xxxx builds of MSHTML.DLL = unfortunately there is no solution, MS discontinued support for all IE 6.0 builds. :-(HTH
