I just bought this SATA hdd and it is working fine. The thinkg is I saw that for the sata hdd to work the technician connected two wires, one for the power and the other one was in red color that is I think SATA cable. Now I was thinking it has space for puttin one more cable like that on the normal hdd.So is it possible for me to connect it with both cables at the same time? Will it do me any good?

The one your talkign about is the normal 4 pinmolex power cable..DO NOT connect BOTH power cables!

Just connect the small red cable (sata lead) and either of the power cables, NOT both.

Hehehe, I remember running into the same dilemma, ended up plugging both power cables. That HDD lasted less than 5 minutes

More power isn’t better? :D:P

Don’t do it but eeuhmm, if it’s on the same power line then it should not make any difference if you connect both...

my friend did that.... it worked fine for prolly about 6 months when i noticed it and yelled at him about it. then showed him the warning sticker right above the power connectors. still works fine tho.

It must be a very bad design if two supposedly identical power connectors can't be connected at the same time, if they were just physically joined together that shouldn't be a problem but in this case it seems not to be so :o

I've noticed the Molex to SATA power adapters (and even some power supplies) have the typical three colors: black, red, and yellow. Then I have seen four colors (not to be confused with wires) on some power supplies (never on the adapter).

Just wondering if that extra color is some funky voltage or some kind of new "wake up" line ?

Also leads me to wonder what about those hard drives that are only getting the three different lines?

ppl actually i meant the red data transfer cable for sata.n the other data transfer cable for normal hdd.these two r not connected at the same time so i was thinkin wat will happen if i connect both.

well, havent seen a hard drive with both EIDE annd SATA connections on...

either way, just connect one if that is the case. Would confuse the system at a guess.

seems like the question is not "can i connect both power cables", but "can i connect both power cables from two different power lines"

'coz when cables are from the same power line, pluggin' in both will only decrease the resistance (which is already very low in a conductor)

am i true or did i created a new revolutionary electrical theory ?

Yah but anybody ever tried connecting both IDE annd SATA wires??

Would like to find a drive that can and try it though!

@ raza,

Give us the link to the drive you have or make picture of it so we can see where you are talking about. What you say makes no sense to us so it would be nice if you clear out some things ;).

That should result in two physical and identical disks being detected, which act as one (i.e. writing to one shows up on the other, vice versa.)

I have not see a dual-mode drive though, and even if there was one, there would probably be a jumper to select which interface to use B)
