Tired with Norton AV!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Anyone know a better AV other than NAV? Using NAV for few years. Recent updates make me sick of NAV.

its load a number of backgroud proceses. i'm also using zonealarm firewall, which is realy simple and smooth!

Heared about AVG, Avast, and NOD32.. which is better in term of simple and sufficient?

The best way for me to say what I *really* want to say right now is:

Please use the search function, or take 1.5 seconds to notice the thread titled "What Anti-Virus do you Use/Recommend?" located near the top of the Software Subforum, where you posted for very useful information.

But since you seem to have some difficulty navigating the website, I took it upon myself to do a simple search for you

Also, this one which I can't blame you for not finding:

www.av-comparatives.org

A personal note from me: Kaspersky and NOD32 are the two absolute best anti-virus solutions out there. It doesn't matter which of them you use, they're both pretty much hand-in-hand.

Cheers.

*twitches slightly* :hello:

I'll second that. They're both great AVs. Decently priced too. Great detection rates. Great updates/definitions. I ran Kaspersky for a long time even though it's a bit heavier than NOD32, until the day it's service pegged the CPU to 100% for no apparent reason. Made the switch to NOD32 since (a shop right across the street sells it), and haven't looked back. Either ways, they're both good. (I wouldn't say the same about SAV though, which has only been troubles ever since we moved from McAfee to that at work. What a POS!)

But some people prefer other solutions for a number of reasons (memory used or extra feautres like antispyware/firewall or such)... Like we can see in the thread that was pointed out before. That thread along with some comparison tests should be enough to pick a few to evaluate (most have trials).

There's also a few decent free AVs out there. I've seen a fair amount of people that use them. Some are pretty good, but I haven't played enough with them to elaborate much on that. Might not be the ultimate best detection rates, but most are still "good enough", and the price is right...

tested kaspersky / nod32

system performance drop by using kaspersky.......1st run must restart <-- no good to use as slipstream cd..... even start menu will sometimes lag...

start up will scan 2 3 minutes before u can really open application...

nod32 got my vote now and install on my system....

why nod32,

install fast , easy maintain with new update, registry easy to export / import setting, system won't slow down... good to use as slipstream cd... just wish they make more prettier will be cool.....

want pretty av and strong av.... kaspersky is the way to go.... they really strong.... tested by me myself....

i just vote nod32 =.= system running fast and smooth =)

well, im trying out Avast for a while, so far i can't complain about it. boot time scans make it easy to delete viruses before they become a major problem. although the rest of my family [except the rents] use NAV 2001 or 2002. not sure which. haven't gotten newer version yet. although i would actually like using NAV..it has that registry scan, that goes for registry issues, shortcuts and whatnot. works well for them. avast works well for me, i can't complain.

Kaspersky and NOD32 are both made by the same company based in Russia.

I wonder who told you they're the same company. I can't seem to find any sources stating that, and it makes no sense: develop 2 inferior products in parallel instead of combining efforts - and then again spend double effort to maintain 2 different and incompatible set of definitions? Essentially double deveopment and maintenance costs (and sales/HR/legal staff, offices, etc), only to create more competition (competing against each other)... That would be almost worse than SCO's business plan - and that's saying something!

Kaspersky is from Moscow, Russia. I'll grant you that.

NOD32 is made by ESET, and their HQ is in Bratislava, SK (Slovakia). No mentions of Russia anywhere on that page...

AFAIK, they're NOT related in any way whatsoever.

Personal Website = (http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts).

Just scroll down to "Download & Installation" and click on the first floppy disk symbol.

FIREWALL:

The XP windows firewall is only a 50% firewall, blocking incoming hackers but doing nothing to stop any ET that's already on your PC from "Phoning Home". It seems like almost every program you install anymore, wants to "Phone Home". It's a good idea to NOT allow this activity. My suggested Firewall to prevent this activity is the FREE version of a world famous product called "Zone Alarm".

ZA can be downloaded from:
