Office Patcher

Recommended Posts

Hello, I made a slipstream script, including all the updates, and it works perfectly, updates don't appear on MU / OU.

Read more about it here: http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3579

Well done. I liked your "complete package" Idea!

What about the infopath issue? I didnt see anything that addressed that.

Will you be making new releases as the new hotfixes come out?

It's already a pretty hefty download at nearly 40 meg though.

I guess most of us could just edit it ourselves adding new hotfixes to the list and then creating a new .reg file.

-----------------------

My script

1. extracts and Slips ANY hotfixes in the same folder Slipoff.cmd is in and also extracts and slips SP2 first (if it's there).

2. Logs each package installation to aid with troubleshooting.

3. Put the admin install anywhere. (yours is hard coded to c:\office).

which could be pluses

but,

1. It is neccessary to download SP2 and hotfix files yourself from microsoft.

(not to bad since all the post SP2 download links are on a single page at MS.)

2. It is neccessary to create the .reg file yourself. (Not tough.)

which could be minuses

@OverFlow, Personally I don't have any issues while integrating KB920103 (InfoPath)...?

Yes, I'm aware of the hard coded stuff, it's only a test version. :P Currently I'm working together with Siginet to make a dynamical AutoIt application. Of course it will be up-to-date, as it is up-to-date right now with december 2006 updates from MS.

@TomCat76, I'm sorry, not trying to steal a thread or anything... :)

feel free to look at it and use my source if you like... that is what it's there for.

I have had several good experiences with Signet so it could only be better for everyone...

My code is a lot more complete and versatile, so run with it if it pleases you. just mention me in the credits ;P

After slipstreaming Update for InfoPath 2003 (KB920103) into Office 2003 Professional with SP2 there are two errors in PRO11.MSI. (really nice info and documentation!)

Sorry TomCat - done --> http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=601340

Could this also be used to slipstream just an individual Office Component? Say, Outlook?
@TAiN

Yes. You just include the hotfixes that you want to include.

TC, I've been able to update/slipstream SP2 into a stand-alone Outlook 2003 Admin Install.

The concept was explained here for FrontPage.

Without a full Office 2003 disk, can I use your program? I'm assuming so, but I guess your answer to TAiN could also mean that you need a full Office 2003 disk in order to slip just one component (and the more I think about it, the more I'm afraid that this is the case). Also, your first line indicates that Office Patcher can silently update admin installs of the mainstream Office CDs with the latest service pack and hotfixes.

Would a standard (not OEM), stand-alone, Outlook 2003 disk qualify as a mainstream office CD? Thanks

Hey there Tomcat76 :hello:

Finally got around to trying this out. Great program REALLY for creating an admin point. But I am getting ALOT errors of can't find this and can't write this and well the list goes on. Here's one of the things that kept popping up. :realmad:

o2ksp3.exe
The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing blah blah blah

The can't find and can't right errors are too long to list. There was one called ICWCON.CAB that seemed real popular.

I'm using Office 2K Pro. It appears to work fine on the Office Disc 1, but on Publisher Disc 2 is where all the errors are coming up. I did read that the errors are pretty common on the O2K stuff and that Office Patcher has work arounds when it encounters this type of thing. So guess I'll just wait to here something back on this. If you need screen shots let me know.

Thanks

jd

This is for Office 2003 only.

I've been tinkering around with slipstreaming the updates into administrative installs.

I wanted to mention to you, that some of the hotfixes for office2003, also patch some of the OTHER components (visio, onenote etc) if they are present on the system being patched.

This tends to include the ones with multiple msi's in them, and also ones which in the knowledge base only say RCE Exploit. If they do not mention a SPECIFIC component of Office2003 in the KB article, then it is likely that they can patch more than one component of the installation.

:EDIT:

Ok, I have compiled the list of hotfixes for each component as far as I know.
