Martin Zugec
Longhorn WILL BE BASED ON *nix like kernel Why am I so sure? Because it will be based on NT kernel from R2 and as you know, N-Ten was programmed by unix programmers (which was clever move from Microsoft)
jeeva
EXACTLY, what I wanted to say.AFAIK, there are two kernels used by Microsoft, the DOS and the NT-Kernel, with modifications, so if M$ would take DOS kernel, they are very stupid!!!So whatever comes, it will be based on UNIX in fact. Martin Zugec
The last OS based on something like dos kernel was Windows ME. NO CHANCE they will return back (specially with next-gen OS like Longhorn)

Martin Zugec
Oh my...Longhorn IS NOT using unix kernel. NT kernel long years ago was designed by unix designers (NT kernel for old NT OSs), so it is not new stuff!

bone
The build 5048 is more likely Windows XP, even use the XP's welcome screen
redder
If they integrate UNIX kernel or any even open source code we would never know! Its not like windows source code is available for us to see whats in it, so why not add some UNIX kernel if the chances to improve this OS were greater no one would ever find out?
