those are the two that i use too

regseeker does a lot better job of it, but ccleaner is a must for temp files! + hotix temp files remover!

I used this one once before:

Then there is the old Microsoft RegClean 4.1a (no longer supported by Microsoft) but it works and

is safe.

@RJM, Yep, i tryed ms regcleen, but i dont kno if it actully does anything! It just says "fix now" but i dont know what/if it fixes anything!

A reg cleaner doesn't "fix" anything. Hopefully it removes reg entries that were not removed by programs after you deleted/uninstalled them.

Regclean leaves a .reg file in the folder where you have Regclean so that you can undo the changes that it made to your registry. If you open the .reg file with Notepad you can see what Regclean has changed.

By the way, I use CrapCleaner.

ok i will take a look at that!

i use ccleaner too but, it doesnt get all the regestry problems, it skips out a bit!

Registry cleaners are just like Anti-Spyware programs.

You need more than one to do the whole job.

I've used RegClean from MS since its inception.

As good as it may be, it only does part of the job and yes, its very safe.

Another very good program that's also safe, is "Easy Cleaner" from Toni Arts.

Cleaning the registry is only the first step...it's like deleting junk from a HD.

It leaves holes in the registry.

Compacting the registry shrinks it and greatly improved its performance.

The only program that I've ever seen that will do this is "NTREGOPT.exe".

It's freeware and really works good.

On my customers PC's, I run it after I've cleaned up the system and run RegClean and

"Easy Cleaner". I've seen compression of as much as 25%.

Since the registry has to load into ram on boot, that saves quite a bit of ram.

It takes many steps, done in the right sequence, to really optimize a system. I've spent the last ten years developing the process I use for all my hundreds of customers. When properly applied, the gain in efficiency is phenominal. I regularly see performance increases of 100% or better.

It ain't Rocket Science,,,,,but dang'd close to it!

Here is the exact process I go through to increase a person's performance.

1. Disable unneeded Services (with a reg file I made) and start-up entries. Even consider switching programs if they are resource-hoggers.

2. Disable all visual effects except for "show windows contents while dragging".

3. Set the page file initial value to the same as the max value. Reboot.

4. Delete all the files in the Prefetch folder.

5. Use CCleaner to clean out crap.

6. Clean out the registry using CCleaner, JV16, Ace Utilities, TuneUp Utilities, RegSeeker, whatever.

7. Compact the registry with NTRegOpt.exe.

8. Defragment with PerfectDisk v7.0.
