oldwolf
Hey AllI have a slight problem with windows. When I turn the computer on, windows gets to, what I presume is the desktop, but, there are no icons, no task bar, no start button. No nothin!! I just have the wallpaper, the cursor, (which I can move around), but nothing else. Sometime I can get task manager up, but not always.I am presuming it is getting stuck on something, but i hve no idea what. I havent installed, removed, added, anything in the last couple of weeks. Its also not oc'd.I have removeable racks so I can run 3 - 4 different drives, (thats why I can post now). Also had no probs playing games, eg... FEAR, Doom 3, Farcry, Dungeon Siege 2, UT, BattleField 2, etc.System as follows.........AMD Athlon XP 3200+GA 7VT600 L1.5 Gb Kingston Value RamWD 160 GbSeagate 80 GbMSI 6600 GT 128MbSB Live 5.1Logitech MX518 Gaming MouseAsus 1608P DVDRLiteon 52x CDR/DVD ComboCoolermaster Centurion CaseCoolermaster 350W PSU (came with case)Windows XP SP1NVidia 71.89 (no probs so havent changed)If anyone has any ideas, Im all ears. I_Broke_My_MHZ
Boot into safe mode, or keep trying till you can get it to succssfully start up, then go into administrator tools > event viewer and take a look at the errors. I think explorer.exe might be having problems starting properly.
KamiQuazi
If you can get the Task Manager to go up, look and see if you can find explorer.exe if not then File > New Task (New...) > type Explorer.exe... If that works then look at the event viewer mentioned by I Broke My MHZ Boot into safe mode, or keep trying till you can get it to succssfully start up, then go into administrator tools > event viewer and take a look at the errors. Wicket20519
You could use the Recovery Console to reinstall explorer.exe -- I had to do that on my Father's laptop; it works fine, now.
