ringfinger Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 Need some help deciding between 3 DL DVD-RW Drives. The NEC ND-3540A $40.99, the Plextor PX-740A/SW-BL $73.99 and the Pioneer 110DBK $46.99 I prefer a black bezel as I have a black case. I have the speeds below, I'm leaning more towards the Pioneer which I'm sure jcarle will be happy about B) , however it does burn and read normal cds slower than the rest. But it makes it up with 8X DVD DL speeds. I don't really want to spend much more than the Plextor would cost. So around $75 if at all possible. Other good drive suggestions will do if you know of something better. Thanks!Plextor DVD+R 16XDVD+RW 8XDVD-R 16XDVD-RW 4XCD-R 48XCD-RW 32XDVD+R DL 8XDVD-R DL 4XDVD-ROM 16XCD-ROM 48XPioneer DVD+R 16XDVD+RW 8XDVD-R 16XDVD-RW 6XCD-R 40XCD-RW 32XDVD+R DL 8XDVD-R DL 8XDVD-ROM 16XCD-ROM 40XNEC DVD+R 16XDVD+RW 8XDVD-R 16XDVD-RW 6XCD-R 48XCD-RW 32XDVD+R DL 8XDVD-R DL 4XDVD-ROM 16XCD-ROM 48X
ringfinger Posted September 16, 2005 Author Posted September 16, 2005 Ripken, do you know someone with the drive or just going by the specs? Reasoning behind your choice?
snekul Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 Quite frankly, the difference between burning a CD at 40X and 48X isn't that great, I'd worry more about the DVD specs. Normally specs alone aren't enough, however, I'd trust all 3 of those brands. Personally, I'd go with the best deal you can get.
ringfinger Posted September 16, 2005 Author Posted September 16, 2005 snekul, yeah I didn't think it'd be that much of a difference. But how about intensive reading operations from normal cds. Like loading an OS for example, the 40x ~ 48x read speed a noticable pain?
ripken204 Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 well if u want to pay for the plextor then get that, but its no better than the nec, its specs are pretty much the best out there and the reviews on it are great
ringfinger Posted September 17, 2005 Author Posted September 17, 2005 Well yeah, I've got the cash for the plextor but if the NEC is fast and quiet thats all Ic are about. Don't need any coasters, the only thing that differs between the NEC and the Plextor is the DVD-RW speed. Hmmmm.... I just figured you get what you pay for, and if I pay more for the plextor it'll be a better quality drive.
some_guy Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 lol... i just bought one of the items that are listed...NEC 3540A
rjz Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Don;t buy lite on. Be careful if you get an oem drive. Check for warranty. Get some good nero software not easy cd creator.
ringfinger Posted September 21, 2005 Author Posted September 21, 2005 I went with the Plextor - retail.... should be here tomorrow or thurs... so we'll see.
