Upgrading SP1 Error

Featured Replies

Yes but the illegal keys had to already exist on someone's copy of XP.

You could have had one of those keys.

ITS A DELL!!! I admit to having "special" versions of XP, with "special" keys, but why would I want to install it on a Dell that works fine?

Its not a possibility if its an OEM version...

Crappy Dell... :)

SOMEONE CLOSE THE TOPIC!

yeh.. well at some stage i borrowed a mates version which was oem .. and he had no problems with his

not possible to install SP1???

i didnt know that, infact.. surely thats wrong. you have to be able to install it.

if you meant its not possible to have a pirate key and a copy of DELL OEM xp.. think again!

all the OEM versions i can think of have been on the net at somepoint, the tools to make your own "OEM" version are all over the place too, so you can modify that dell logo to say HELL if you wanted :)

Welcome to the world of OEM, its inherant problems and pains in the neck.. infact, didnt people on this very forum warn you of such hassles when buying a pc from some OEM company?

im sure they did... i wont say those words im dying to say tho.

you can install SP1 on an OEM version, i will go look if theres anything different, such as a specific DELL sp1 pack or something. i doubt it however. are you trying to install SP1 for HOME on your machine, or trying to install the PRO sp1?

i tried to tell him that some dell oem keys maybe have been circulated

maybe it was one of the keys that was flying around the net. Maybe u were the unfortunate Dell Customer :)

FthrJACK, I bought the computer through my dad's company from Dell when he bought new ones for his company...I have no idea how to make an OEM version or whatever, and I don't think there is an SP1 for Dell only...

Why don't you look at the image before asking me if its PRO or HOME?

i know its pro, i wanted to make sure your installing the right pack!

So is the problem solved? :)

did you check that cryptographic service was running?

do you have XPAntiSpy up and running?

did you ever unregister Licdll.dll or Regwizc.dll files, either manually or by using XPAntiSpy?

i would beg to differ with you Mr. Doggie.

before i mention something...have you ever installed SP1 on an illegit copy. anyways thats not my point.

there can be 'n' number of reasons behind SP1 not being able to check the license of the computer. three most important of them are: -

1) cryptographic service stopped or disabled

2) use of XP-AntiSpy

3) manual unregistering of Licdll.dll or Regwizc.dll files
