Another question: Is it possible that my USB device (64 MB) will be detected and work without any drivers. I have never used USB drives before. Thanks in advance for any help.

You mean with NUSB not installed? No, this is not possible.

It will work on Windows Me, 2000, XP and Vista, but not on older OSes.

also works for my DanElec 512Meg usb stick. I couldn't even find a proper driver for it on their site.

I need some help, using NUSB v2.2, when i try to install my Sony USB floppy drive i get a BSOD. It's a fatal exception 00 @ 0028:1837AE4 in VXD DiskTSD (03). My computer is a laptop and the BSOD happens when i insert the floppy drive in the modular bay or when i connect it to a USB port. And, i believe the drive is USB 2.0, is there any way to get USB 2.0 to work in 98SE, by the way?

for usb 2.0 you need to know what motherboard you have and what chipset it uses

NUSB support of USB floppy drives is broken, it should be removed, I wrote about it in this thread twice already but it was not corrected yet.

Use manufacturer supplied driver instead.

You need manufacturer supplied driver to support USB 2.0 in Windows 98, you can use Everest to identify the USB 2.0 controller, this is the example:

The important information is Device ID, Subsystem ID and Revision.

Then I can point you to the right driver in case it exists.

why don't you fix the problem above

we can't put all i hope & depends in one person to

keep a updated system.If we do we will never get our system up to date

/bugless free

Its seem that everyone who start a project don't care to finish it

or take too long to make adjustments and updates

nobody has replied to my observations and suggestions so I have no idea what is the real dimension of the problem, it looked like just and only I have the problem. I have reported the problem in this thread on May 2 2005, more than 19 months ago.

There was suggestion to use Microsoft umss driver instead of these partially working files taken from Windows Me, but I never was able to compile it and again nobody was interested in this way.

If everybody is happy with the current state why should I try to change it?

Since support of USB floppy drives is broken, does anyone know where i can find a 'manufacturer' driver? I tried Sony's site, but i couldn't find it. My laptop is NOT a Sony, is a Dell, ONLY the floppy drive is a Sony; at least, that's what NUSB detected it as...

Everest reports the USB 2.0 controller as 'Intel 82801DB(M) ICH4(-M) - Enhanced USB2 controller' Device ID: 8086-24CD. Subsystem ID: 1028-011E. Revision 01. I already installed the 'Intel Mobile Chipset' driver from the Dell ResourceCD, but it did NOT install a USB 2.0 controller.

I had to do this on my newer PC, because once i plug in the drive in the laptop, 98 goes straight ahead and detects it, followed by the BSOD. I would need to uninstall NUSB, right? But i can't do that from Add/Remove programs...Anyway, here's what Usb View reported on my new PC:

idVendor: 0x054C (Sony Corp.)

idProduct: 0x002C

No both, of course. Both drivers are made by Orangeware, the first one is special Intel edition with support of ICH4 and ICH5 southbridges and Windows 9x only, it is dated 4/01/2003. The second one is newest Orangeware driver for Windows 9x/2000/XP, supports ICH4 only and is dated 3/1/2006.

I don't know which one will be better for you.

That's great, but, because i don't have a floppy drive or internet access on the laptop, how can i transfer files from my new PC to it? The laptop has a parallel port, but my new PC does NOT, so that option is out. The only way i know of, is via USB, but i don't have the right USB cord (it's the one with two male ends, right?) Also, I don't know enough about networking to figure how (i.e. type of network cord) i should use to connect the NIC's of both computers.

It sure does, and my new PC has a DVD burner. But, I don't want to waste another Blank CD for a max. of 100 megs of drivers and such. Because i already have plenty of CD-R's with lots of free space on them. Is there a way to re-use/add data to these CD-R's if their capacity is NOT full?
