.cmd to .exe, why would one need to do this?

batch files are simple and fast :w00t:

There are many practical reasons why you'd want to do it. But if you satisfied with your batch-files as they are, then there's no reason for you to think about converting to EXE.

One downside of .CMD to .EXE, is that you can't edit the script at will, any more (since EXE is binary now).

prathapml, that's why I use the .cmd format, because it can be edited

Since I use my unattended setup to install on customer computers, I need the flexibility of batch so I can customise the installation according to software needs of the customer.

1 question on it tho, is one method faster installation? batch vs binary?

  • 2 weeks later...

My main goal with this ideal is to make an exe to where I can use an Autorun.inf for other programs.

After being tired of people asking me how to install their stuff *What do I click next?*

I make an silent install of it, make the cmd file to run them, make this cmd file to an exe to have it autorun once put in the CD/DVD Rom drive and BAMN... It installs the stuff, they CAN'T possibly ask me DIDDLY other than how to use it of course. :)

It has it's advantages unless someone knows a way or program that makes cmd file autorun

for one perfect example would be greenmachine... He is very touchy about people even looking in XPCREATE... you'd think he'd have been the first one to jump on a bat to exe compiler... assuming it is a real compiler and not a self-extractor.
