Registry Tweaks

Is there a way to display the recycle bin on My Computer but not on the desktop? The regtweak that removes the recycle bin from the desktop also seems to remove it from My Computer.

;[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\NonEnum]
"{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}"=dword:00000001

Value 1 removes the icon from both the desktop and from My Computer. Value 0 displays the icon in both locations.

You are right, I had not even realized this until you mentioned it. I would also like a solution to this, because not having a way to get to the recycle bin was nto what I wanted. I just want the darn thing gone from the desktop.

I'm using this tweak to turn off the screensaver :
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]

"ScreenSaveActive"="0"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]

"SCRNSAVE.EXE"=-

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop]

"ScreenSaveActive"="0"

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop]

"SCRNSAVE.EXE"=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop]

"ScreenSaveActive"="0"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop]

"SCRNSAVE.EXE"=-

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop]

"ScreenSaveActive"="0"

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop]

"SCRNSAVE.EXE"=-

The problem is that it's completely disabled. The option is grey out so i have no way to turn it on later if i want. How to turn it off only (just put the selection on "none") ?

Thank you.

Nobody knows ? :huh:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]

"SCRNSAVE.EXE"=""

:)

Just tested it. Works fine.

Just remove this key if you don't want the recycle bin on the desktop:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}]

I used the big registry file (with some changes of my own, of course, to fit my needs) but I'm looking to get the status bar and left hand bar to show up in the windows (picture attached just in case you have no idea what I'm talking about). Thanx to anyone who can help.

How does one remove a key and where do I remove it from?

Screwz Luse

There is no way to turn on the Windows Explorer Status Bar short of hacking something, you can just click it like three times and go to folder option's and tell it to apply to all folder's. Eventually it stick's.

That's one I've hunted awhile.

heh, thanx for the reply maxxpsoft. How about the side panel? One of the reg tweaks had to have removed it or something so I'm just curious if anyone has any ideas on that one (I'll definately do the manual way of putting the status bar on each window if there isn't a tweak).

@Sanjay notice the "-"
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}]

import the key as normal at t-13

Thanks for he reply. But this also does not work. What I mean is that it has the same effect, that of removing the Recycle Bin from the Desktop and also from My Computer. What we are looking for is a solution that would only remove it from the desktop, just as one can do thru 'tweakui'.

Both the registry teaks shown below have the same effect:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\NonEnum]
"{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}"=dword:00000001

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}]

This works for me to enable the statusbar for all windows:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Show_StatusBar"="yes"
"StatusBarWeb"=dword:00000001
"Show_URLinStatusBar"="yes"
"Show_URLToolBar"="yes"
"StatusBarOther"=dword:00000001

To show the left hand bar as you call it:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"WebView"=dword:00000001

I'll attach my complete RegTweaks file which I use in my unattended install.

Maybe it can be of some use :)

@Tweaker, this is the reg setting that sets status bar for windows explorer

;-----  Status bar, list view for Explorer
;-----
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams]
"Settings"=hex:09,00,00,00,03,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,e0,a5,1f,0e,73,35,cf,11,ae,\
 69,08,00,2b,2e,12,62,04,00,00,00,04,00,00,00,43,00,00,00

The windows explorer status bar IS CONTAINED within the streams subkey, this is the ONLY way to enable status bar for windows explorer...I dunno what the exact thing to change to enable it for say details view, but maybe ill redo the key and post it here...I could since I dont have any reg stuff in my xpcd yet.

on a side note...you have contradicting reg tweaks...one sets list view and status bar, the other sets details view...if your status bar isnt being removed and you have details view when your windows starts, then something weird is going on.

oh sry for my previous post then, I thought that was the one which set the statusbar

Edit: it seems that "StatusBarOther"=1 does enable the statusbar for all windows, at least in SP2.

About the list and detail view tweaks, if I use both than all my folders are set to list view with detail aswell. And I still have statusbars in all windows though.

Something else I want to add is about the 'quick launch bar'. The method of adding it to your complete reg file doesn't work for me as it hasn't worked for others aswell. Now prathapml has posted a way to do this which seems to work fine. You have to create a separate reg file and call it via cmdlines.txt. His post can be found here. This method works for me aswell.
