Registry Tweaks

Recommended Posts

@maxXPsoft: Ok sorry, but the CLSID is common for every computer, isn't it?

Ordinarily yes the CLSID is common to all PCs.

You can generate a new CLSID when you programming and hopefully it won't crash with something else, I'd say it's highly unlikely though.

I was just pointing out that like that key it changes's several other thing's. You must be carefull and export after you get it like you like.

@evilvoice :thumbup

Thats what I use also, save's any reg entries. Anything you can add beforehand is much better.

Just started going through Johnnys registry file and here are my initial findings...

The "IRQ8Priority"=dword:00000001 tweak is a complete myth - it does not do anything and if necessary needs minusing out of the registry.

The AlwaysUnloadDLL is a useless tweak as it will have a negative affect on performance if you reopen applications not too long before closing them. If you have loads of ram like most people than this tweak is to be avoided as it will free up ram that most of us want.

I notice that you do not have the contigfileallocsize tweak in, so you must know this is for win9x only ?

The same goes for the IoPageLockLimit which I notice is also missing, which is good as it is not valid in xp.

Anyway still going through it. Good work !

anyone know how to set the default value for Power Settings -> Advanced ->

"When I close the lid of my portable computer: DO NOTHING"

and

"When I press the power button on my computer: SHUT DOWN"

also, if the computer XPCD is installed on is not a laptop, these keys should not apply.

how do i do this?

Here's a little one I made myself, so I hope it isn't a repeat. I have a terrible habit of not labeling and then losing floppy disks. The things are like potato chips nowadays. This tweak requires that you put rbfg.exe in System32. When you right click on any drive in explorer you will have an option to make a RIS Boot Disk. A start menu shortcut for this common yet menial task was just way too cumbersome for me.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Drive\shell\RIS Boot Disk\command]@="C:\\Windows\\System32\\rbfg.exe"

Hope it helps out the RIS enabled sys admins out there.

SiMoNsAyS said at very end

change to your own values before exporting them.

In other word's set it like you like manually then go export them key's on your own then you have it like you like it. Each time you change something with Power it changes all those key's. Its not as easy as change a 1 to a 2 in this case.

are these machine specific?

or will they work on every computer?

why you do it sooo difficult? :P

start on the pc you're going to install your unattended xp, edit powercfg and then export the keys from above, (no machine specific but doesn't matter if they are or not because you're going to import the keys on the same pc) that's all

i don't do it difficult! B)

i want to be able to use this CD on any computer. specifically, whether its my desktop, or my laptop, i want the same cd to be useable for all my tweaks and programs.

so, are these power settings generalizable? or will they not work on other comps?
