I have never had any luck getting small icons in explorer to stick machine-wide with a .reg file. And when I do get it to work it only does so for my user only.

Here is how I got small icons in Explorer (and Internet Explorer) to work machine-wide:

set icon=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

reg add %icon%\SmallIcons /v SmallIcons /t REG_SZ /d yes /f

Save as .cmd (or .bat) and call it via cmdlines.txt or after or whenever (you can even do it right now). It doesn't require a restart.

Finally got those darn Visual Effects settings to stick.

1. Make sure the "DefaultApplied" and "DefaultValue" is 0 for all the HKCU keys you want to change.

2. Make sure the corresponding "DefaultValue" in the HKLM key is also 0.

Hello,

I have a very stupid question, but I will ask U this one.

Can I take the registry tweaks for a German Windows XP ?

Cause ther are tweaks in eglish, like:

die kannst du alle ohne probleme benutzen. alles was hinter einem semikolon steht sind nur kommentare, der rest is für alle version von windows einheitlich :)

english: you can use them all without any problems. everything with a semicolon at the beginning is just a comment and the rest is the same for all versions of windows

Hi!

Yep, you can use these tweaks, the registry keys are just the same for each language version of the same windows version. no difference there, they only differ sometimes between the different os's and sometimes even between different service packs for the same os.

Na dann bin ich ja echt beruhigt.

Aber gibt es da eine bestimmte definition über das Aussehen der tweaks? Also die Kommentare können da ruhig bleiben? Und die leerezeile zwischen 2 tweaks ebenfalls?

Kann da mal jemand seine Datei reinkopieren, damit ich da auch 100% sicher gehen kann. Das wäre echt nochmal sehr nett.

well i know it slows down the shutdown :)

and that "-" should have been "="

Windows does not normally clear or recreate the page file. On a heavily used system this can be both a security threat and performance drop. Enabling this setting will cause Windows to clear the page file whenever the system is shutdown.

Note: Please note on systems with large amounts of memory, and therefore large swap-file, this tweak could cause a delay at shutdown due to the additional time taken to clear the data from the file.
