Custanius
and still, you will have to have internet connection and have to download those files, i still prefer the old way.........
gosh
Oh god, autopatcher. It's one of those programs for people that read those "windows for dummies" books. If you don't have a clue about windows then use it. If you care what you are doing then learn how to properly make an unattended cd - that's the whole point of this site.-gosh
edmoncu
i dunno if what i heard were just rumors, but i think autopatcher contains some adware proggys.
n00b
i dunno if what i heard were just rumors, but i think autopatcher contains some adware proggys.MSN Plus! contains adware, but if you look at the switches it's specifically set to NOT install it.AutoPatcher XP has a Lite and UltraLite version, you can use it if you don't want the 3rd party software (which is pretty much useless IMO) and the regtweaks (again, unneeded IMO)
Alanoll
I"m with gosh on this one. Also, I should point out, if I were having a bad day, I may just have deleted thsi thread. There are already many threads on Autopatcher. Most of which get discarded by people because they do prefer to learn to do it the "hard" way and learn. You're just cheating yourself. Besides teh SVCPACK.INF way is the way Microsoft describes how to perform the installs. It also makes sure you have a fully updated install at first startup rather then having it exposed untill GUIRunOnce is run, and then the system restarted again. RyanVM
My favorite part is how it installs both Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger. And how it installs all the updates to the MS JVM only to remove the JVM later on. Seriously, it seems like the creators put zilch for thought into this. dtmunir
ok....i agrree autopatcher may be a lil attractive for TOTAL noobs! but u hv to realise one thing: the HUGE size of it is self defeating. the point is, everytime microsoft releases a new patch or there is a new build of WMP or direct x, u'll hv to re-download the huge file in its entirety. u say theres a lite version. well i say this: wt if i want all the things the full version has in it. this MSFN unattend method lets u hv the best of both worlds. i can CHOOSE wt i want, and i dont hv to re-download EVERYTHING. only wt i want updatedso theremy 2 centspeacedanish
Alanoll
If you are going to learn to do an unattended install the cheap and easy way, then you might as well go over to their site. I mean, here, people try to do it the right way.Besides Autopatcher being bloatware, and highly to overated, it leaves the system vulnerable for a good hour or so. On a broadband connection, that will kill the machine leading to another format. Besides, why would you use a package that someone could very well have slipped something into without you knowing it. Not saying they would, but with the offical Microsoft updates, there isn't a question. XPCreate, you can easily see the source code. XPlode, heading in the open source direction. Autopatcher, never going.
