Is it possible to install a program or driver in WinXP to support Miracast protocol (or WiFi direct, screen mirroring, smart screen, screen cast , whatever synonyms)? As cast source (client), target (server), or both?  Is there any hardware barriers (Intel 4965AG)?

Try to dig out some old Intel WiDi driver from before they scrapped the thing "because M$ added it to Win10".

Not sure if one exists for XP though.

I am using the last official Intel driver for 4965AG, yet apparently no WiDi features, maybe too old network adapter.  Is official driver the only hope?

Hello,

I find myself in a similar situation where I want to have my XP laptop wirelessly connect to a venue's projector (otherwise I need to leave my laptop near the projector, which I am not a fan of).
I found some items on Amazon that are Miracast compatible which plug into the projector's HDMI.

So has any progress been made, in the past 5 years, on getting Miracast to work on WinXP?

Use DLNA and VLC for media; screen:// as source to mirror.

Thanks for responding.

I need to connect to the projector to do a PowerPoint presentation - so DLNA/VLC wouldn't work.

The solution I need is what the OP was/is looking for.

So you want to mirror your screen--VLC can do that via DNLA by selecting screen:// as the streaming source.

DLNA is the only wifi-casting technology supported by XP. VLC can stretch it to its limits. Otherwise you will need a hardware-only solution such as wireless HDMI (transmitter and receiver pair).

You can also record (or covert) your PowerPoint to a movie and stream that with VLC, pausing as needed during the live presentation.

Thank you so much again for your reply.

Maybe I am not fully understanding the capabilities of VLC....

Can you solution work where the venue doesn't have WiFi?  Would the HDMI wireless receivers (to plug into the projector) work in this solution?

The venues I am presenting at have a lot of variability - the only common denomination being an HDMI port/cable to plug my laptop to.

So I need a wireless solution, so that I can have my laptop placed near me instead of near the HDMI port/cable.

And just to add - the receiver/transmitter packages are not a via solution due to the transmitters power supply requirement (normally 2A) which my laptop can not provide.

Thank you again for all your help thus far!

Ad-hoc wifi might work, or use you phone to create a private hotspot. Roku or Firestick could act as receiver.

An HDMI extension cable?

AC power adapter or powerbank.

You could also do the PP presentation on a Chromebook or even your phone and cast it to a Chromecast. Or iPhone to Roku!

You idea for a powerbank to power the transmitter is an interesting one!

I'm trying to reduce the number of items I need to remember to have charged up before the presentation - but it would help achieve being wireless.

The other solutions are not viable, as they go against what I am trying to achieve: no wires coming from the presentation area (HDMI, power, etc), using my laptop (non-negotiable), with the least number of components as possible.

I was hoping that maybe someone did some sort of "hack" to allow Miracast to work on XP (using KernelEX, or some patch, or something).

Thank you so much again for all your help thus far.
