WinFX Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 When I click search in Internet Explorer 6 in Windows XP I get a message saying "Internet Explorer 6 Search Companion is no longer supported." since mid-2015 I get this. But there is a video of someone called Bingocat that was uploaded on April 14, 2016: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tm5ZbALMPc I do not know if something needs to be changed in the registry or something like that since IE6's browser has things in the shell of windows xp.
sdfox7 Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Search Companion is a component of Windows, not Internet Explorer. It seems the functionality might have been disabled in your configuration.
sdfox7 Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 @Win2000Fan If you're interested you can also try Windows Search 4.0 for Windows XP: https://web.archive.org/web/20120428070151/https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=23 Direct Download: https://web.archive.org/web/20120428065918/http://download.microsoft.com/download/a/5/6/a56b2342-8ebe-46ff-85f7-d9a9ca887bfa/WindowsSearch-KB940157-XP-x86-enu.exe
jumper Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 Microsoft has shut down the Search Assistant. "ie.search.msn.com" now redirects to "bing.com" which doesn't support "srchasst\srchasst.htm" (or "srchcust.htm"). Scan your registry for the string "ie.search.msn.com" or "srchasst" and replace that URL with a new one of your choice such as "http://ie.search.yahoo.com/{sub_rfc1766}/srchasst/srchasst.htm". See:&tab; answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=1006043010329 (Alternately, you can install some mid-2000's malware and let it hijack the search assistant for you!) 3
Dave-H Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 I use Windows Search 4.0 on both my XP installations, with the traditional Search Companion re-enabled as I prefer it to the Windows Search 4.0 one, and yes, on one of them Rover still struts his stuff!
