Change language of an updated XP

Creating a new user didn't solve the problem as the new user still had menus in Italian.

Out of curiosity, I opened up the register and I found a few another strings that needed to be changed:

1) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NIs\

There was a REG_SZ string called "0410" and I renamed it "0409".

2) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NIs\MUILanguages

There was a REG_SZ string called "0410" and set to 1; I simply renamed it "0409".

After rebooting, now many menus are in English even for my "old" account and for every new account as well.

I hope it will be useful for other people in the future.

p.s too bad the Recycle Bin will be "Cestino" forever xD

I am not sure I understand:

https://ccm.net/faq/14662-windows-xp-change-the-name-of-the-recycle-bin

Quote

Windows XP - Change the name of the recycle bin

This modification can be made via the registry:

Click on Start > Run > type "regedit"

Scroll to: HKEY > CURRENT > USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > ShellNoRoam > MUICache.

Right click on this "@ C: WINDOWSsystem32SHELL32.dll, -8964" and select Edit

Enter a new name for the Recylcle bin and validate with the OK button

Restart your PC.

(make the "rename" feature available)

... This is, of course, off-topic (as this concerns XP), but it appears on Vista that feature is ON by default:

Not perfect, though: the first menu option still calls my "Trash Can" the "Recycle Bin:"

But if @FranceBB has the English menu now, it should be good enough; just rename the "Cestino" to the "Recycle Bin" and everything's in agreement.

Well, if I had to tackle the issue I would have a (temporary) English install of XP, and from it extract to .reg file the whole:

HKEY > CURRENT > USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > ShellNoRoam > MUICache

then do the same on the Italian one and compare the two files.

Done.

Thanks! Now it really looks legit, including the logon and shutdown messages. :D
