November 15, 20187 yr Hi guys, I have signed up specifically to thank Dave H for his solution to the problem of Office 2010 modules not opening on XP after the latest Windows updates. Before I found this thread I was about to uninstall MS Office and replace it with OpenOffice instead (I might still do that!). Now that I have removed KB4461522 everything has returned to running as it should. Thanks once again, Dave, and I hope all others in the same predicament will find your fix. November 15, 20187 yr Author Thanks @fernman, that's what this forum (and others like it of course) is all about!
November 15, 20187 yr Many thanks for the above posts. I tried to open Word today and got the message. I uninstalled the update and it now works again. You saved me so much time and worry. Long live XP!!
November 15, 20187 yr ["I don't speak English, sorry."] Hi guys, I "too" have signed up specifically to thank Dave H for his solution to the problem of Office 2010 modules not opening on XP after the latest Windows updates. Before I found this thread I was about to uninstall MS Office and replace it with OpenOffice instead (I might still do that!). Now that I have removed KB4461522 everything has returned to running as it should. Thanks once again, Dave, and I hope all others in the same predicament will find your fix.

November 15, 20187 yr Yep - looks like they pulled it. Hopefully a less "crashy" Office 2010 update will be forthcoming.
November 17, 20187 yr They've now pulled KB2863821 as well. Neither of the updates Dave cited is available on Microsoft Update Catalog anymore. Definitely interesting!

November 18, 20187 yr FYI, both of the updates listed affected Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 terminal server with Office 2010.
November 20, 20187 yr Author Good news all round! Microsoft Update is no longer warning me that I've hidden an important update, and KB4461522 has vanished from the hidden updates list. Now, should I uninstall KB2863821?
December 5, 20187 yr Author It looks like KB4461579 which was offered today (along with KB4227172) is the replacement. Working fine thank goodness! Edited December 5, 20187 yr by Dave-H Addition
December 5, 20187 yr New update available today: KB4461579: Quote This update makes some changes for the Japanese calendar in Office 2010 so that the new Japanese era name can be displayed correctly when a new era begins. Additional updates may be required for Office applications because of expected changes in the Japanese era. We will update this article as necessary. Blackwingcat, at least, will find it useful.
