It seems that Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows XP support has been dropped. Latest XP-compatible definitions

Attention: Link will not live long, download ASAP if You need it.

Does anyone of you have downloaded this file: mpam-fe.exe v. 1.291.2489.0 / x86 ? If so, can it send me (PW) the MpSigStub.exe file "extracted" from this archive? I would like to "experiment" a bit with this file :)

I am having a relapse of the same issue from 2017 regarding the HTTPDL.exe error. We had a discussion on pm back then which it was fixed. There is also some comment about it in this forum on page 18. Please see what you can do.

I have the same issue on one of my XP-based systems also. It have an older hardware than the other one, on which the updater works. May this be incompatibility with extended CPU instrutions? The affected system supports MMX, SSE and SSE2 only.

Is there any way of stopping MSE doing its own definition update checks?
It's now writing loads of error messages into my Windows logs all the time.

Mine too.

Maybe in the key "FallbackOrder" it helps to delete the content "MicrosoftUpdateServer | MMPC" in the registry
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Antimalware\Signature Updates" (there is no permission to edit entries here!). For this I can provide you with a helper, unzip file (3 files in a folder) and run the file "no_UPD.bat" (with the file "UPD_Default.bat" the original entry can be restored).

Download:
here

Hope that with you this problem is solved!

Do all of these newer updates (1.7, 1.8, 1.9 etc.) include the "newer wget" version to eliminate the problem with certain old hardware (httpdl.exe fatal error)?

In your case yes, any customizations will be made to the MSEDEFUPD.bat and MSEDEFUPD_INT.bat files. Actually, I do not use MSE at all, just to test in my VM to eliminate any errors in the Microsoft Security Essentials Definition Updater. If there are no further suspensions, it will stay with version 1.9.

Hello sorry MSE Updater don't help to update my definitions anymore - i don't know why :blushing: last possible update is still 1.291.2489.0

I've found this Wayback Machine link from a Japan XP forum - maybe it can help you - downloadtime ~ 5 min!

Yes I've tried V1.8 & V1.9 repeatedly
Results:
(1) No Update aviable! Could not be updated!
     ..definition Version: 1.291.2489.0
     Engine Version: 1.1.15800.1
(2) Definition for MSE successfully download!
     ... Version: 0.0.0.0 ...
     (guess there wasn't any download)
(3) Only Download Delta Definition for MSE
Full Edition Definition for MSE not exist!
First Download complete Definition for MSE perform!

Reset (RAUE) is working fine - just not very helpful ;)

Will try on - if I'll find a clue i will report it

@XP/Vista user

If you have done RAUE, then there should be no problems updating the definition files with MSE Updater v1.9. If you are working with offline updates, you should first delete or rename the folder "MSE_DEFINITION_DOWNLOAD" if outdated definitions still exist. Above all, give the MSE Updater the time it needs to update (takes longer than at the time before the support end of MSE on Windows XP)!

Hello,

I own many XP machines in a network without Internet.
The last known version is the 1.291.2489.0

(With Start menu I have succeeded in an update!)

I am testing the Updater 1.9 with commandline.
I have successfully completed the "Download Only".
After copying to the XP machines I'm missing the syntax
"Only update WITHOUT download" to perform.

With /! UO0 or 1 a download is always tried !?

What am I doing wrong?

It's not "/! UO0" but "/!UO0": there's no space between the bang and the U.

I once again need the custom updater for new wget version 1.9 . I tried 1.9 on the good machine and it worked, tried the same file on the problem machine and it gave me the httpdl.exe error.  (already have the file I need in my PM)

OR, can you explain to me how I can modify the file myself so I don't need to always ask for a special variant the next time you update?

****** why cannot you post just one variant for everybody for each version release? Would the special variant with the new wget fail on everyone but me? Is there a variant that is fully forward/backward compatible for all users ??

:)

hello dencorso,

The hint is not helpful!

I use the following string: /!S0 UO1 ET5

(UO0 = the same reaction)

If the definitions are new, this happens:

image.png.f1ea7f49f16c753b9fbda66660f79b34.pngimage.png.311a82e7fe8011a90ea7202e69d2727f.png image.png.44df28e1ad6de7bc386348545d8990c9.pngimage.png.576817aee0cb53c80ca16e1e2004c03b.png

If the definitions are old - then that happens:

How can the download be suppressed?

:-)
