Try going TWO posts above your original. Had you read those two posts, you'd have all the information and software you need, and wouldn't need to ask other people to distill it for you.

pcalvert Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Be aware that if you have Automatic Updates turned off that MSE may attempt to re-enable Automatic Updates. I just installed MSE, and right after I did I checked and found that Automatic Updates had been enabled. Thanks to a security program, I was alerted to a potentially suspicious action. Further research led me to suspect that my Automatic Updates configuration may have been tampered with, so I checked and found that Automatic Updates had been re-enabled.
heinoganda Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 (edited) It is normal when automatic updates are (AU) disabled, as soon as MSE is installed they will be activated. This happens partly synonymous with other programs from Microsoft as well. Edited December 8, 2017 by heinoganda
pcalvert Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 If you know where to look, the official versions are still available. I found this using some "magic" software created by one of our members: Quote ---------------------------------------------------------------- 2013-11-26 Microsoft Security Essentials - (KB2902907) Listing of File URLs: MSEInstall-x86-EN-US - http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/software/ftpk/2013/11/mseinstall_6ea36a8b108517a4dc692afc30aad122af543239.exe (10864 KB) Description: You may not be running an anti-malware solution and this may leave your PC vulnerable to viruses, spyware and other malicious software. AstroSkipper Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 @Raupinator I am german and interested in a german installer of Microsoft Security Essentials 4.4.304 you offered some posts above. Can you provide a download link? Thanks in advance
heinoganda Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 (edited) Microsoft Security Essentials 4.4.304 is currently being officially offered through Microsoft Update (with IE8 http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate)! If an offline installer is desired, copy the file "MSEInstall.exe" to/on any directory/drive under "%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download\Install". The setup of MSE running at this time can still be canceled. Edited January 25, 2018 by heinoganda
jaclaz Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Just for the record, WITHOUT IE8: https://filehippo.com/download_security_essentials_xp/ BUT, is it any newer than November 2013 ? https://www.techadvisor.co.uk/download/security/microsoft-security-essentials-windows-xp-44304-3329518/ jaclaz

Can you send me your german installer MSEInstall.exe or provide a download link? Thanks and regards
sdfox7 Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 (edited) @heinoganda @AstroSkipper It appears that Windows Update shows the Security Essentials being available, but the links shown in the "details" box are not working. You also will not find those links in the Internet Archive. I have always recommended that people download the programs using the original source page Internet Archive (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-download): (EDITED) The correct link for the x86 32 bit version is https://web.archive.org/web/20131121010912/http://download.microsoft.com/download/A/3/8/A38FFBF2-1122-48B4-AF60-E44F6DC28BD8/ENUS/x86/MSEInstall.exe I have also had them archived on my FTP: http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp3/EOL/mse/ Edited January 28, 2018 by sdfox7 edited to update the correct link for the archived 32 XP version

I'm updating the links in that reply above (since I can't delete the post): Version 4.4.304 was digitally signed by Microsoft on October 24, 2013. Thus you'll need to use the archived direct download link from November 28, 2013 (it still links to 4.4.304). Also, the files on my FTP were always the correct 4.4.304, so you can always use those! (In my post above I accidentally linked to a newer archived link which happens to link to the "unarchived" 4.10.209.0, which as you correctly noted does not run on XP.) The correct link for the x86 32 bit version is https://web.archive.org/web/20131121010912/http://download.microsoft.com/download/A/3/8/A38FFBF2-1122-48B4-AF60-E44F6DC28BD8/ENUS/x86/MSEInstall.exe
