justacruzr2 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 After running this update I ran Norton WinDoctor to check the registry and it found 16 incorrect entries all related to the same thing....missing file pkmres.dll. I checked with the Microsoft support page for this kb article and it lists the following files which are included in the update: The update contains files with the versions that are listed in the following table.Date Time Version Size File name-------------------------------------------------------------25-Mar-2003 05:52 4.0.2.7523 618,605 Fp4autl.dll 19-Nov-2000 10:28 4.0.2.4715 450,669 Fp4awec.dll 28-Oct-2004 22:03 11.0.6715.15 843,472 Msdaipp.dll 18-Jul-2003 18:05 11.0.5510.0 160,320 Msdapml.dll 28-Oct-2004 21:50 11.0.6715.15 1,293,008 Msonsext.dll 18-Jul-2003 18:05 11.0.5510.0 80,448 Pkmws.dll That's also exactly what is in the update package I have. So, where is pkmres.dll supposed to come from? Is it already supposed to exist or are those registry entries (created by the update) a mistake that should be deleted?
Nomen Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I've checked my win-98se system and I have nothing matching pkmres*.*. I have all of the other files mentioned in the table except for Pkmws.dll, but only Fp4awec.dll matches the version in the table (all others are older versions). Pkmres.dll is said to be a component of "microsoft sharepoint portal server". It's not clear to me if Microsoft intended kb892211 to be applicable to windows 98. submix8c Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 (edited) Google"pkmres.dll"And that KB# - That's an XP update. And you're applying it to What OS? https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/892211 Edited February 24, 2016 by submix8c
justacruzr2 Posted February 24, 2016 Author Posted February 24, 2016 @ Nomen Thanks for your reply. Same here. Never been a pkmres.dll on my system either. Not even in the setup cabs. This update is intended for 98/ME/XP. The following comes from the same KB article webpage at MS: System Requirements 1) Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows ME, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP 2) Microsoft Windows Installer version 2.0 or later. File information The update contains files with the versions that are listed in the following table. Date Time Version Size File name ------------------------------------------------------------- 25-Mar-2003 05:52 4.0.2.7523 618,605 Fp4autl.dll 19-Nov-2000 10:28 4.0.2.4715 450,669 Fp4awec.dll 28-Oct-2004 22:03 11.0.6715.15 843,472 Msdaipp.dll 18-Jul-2003 18:05 11.0.5510.0 160,320 Msdapml.dll 28-Oct-2004 21:50 11.0.6715.15 1,293,008 Msonsext.dll 18-Jul-2003 18:05 11.0.5510.0 80,448 Pkmws.dll @ submixc Know what your talking about or do some research before you comment.

Where are you copying this? I think submix8c is right. In KB892211 i found this: Applies to Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition (32-bit x86) Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition (32-bit x86) Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Web Edition Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Microsoft Windows XP Professional Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
submix8c Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 DUDE! There's the link in my last post! Can you rephrase that statement?Or are you referring to an entirely differ KB#? Indeed, that link Nomen gave says the exact same thing! Give us the link that YOU found said "Windows 98" info at or else you HAVE to be soooo wrong! After all, you DID NOT give a link AT ALL! Just "I said so"...

Drugwash Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 The archive site may be serving a newer, crippled version of the package. While the text on the old archived page may indeed mention Win9/ME, the package itself may only suport XP (and later). Hence the confusion.

While the text on the old archived page may indeed mention Win9/ME, the package itself may only suport XP (and later). Hence the confusion. Are you sure that you are downloading the archived version? If you are just downloading http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/7/2/b72c48b9-a1f8-49fc-9f75-71af93ec90b0/Webfldrs-KB892211-ENU.exe you will be served directly from Microsoft's server, which likely only serves XP-compatible version. Can you try the http://web.archive.org/web/20051104113959/http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/7/2/b72c48b9-a1f8-49fc-9f75-71af93ec90b0/Webfldrs-KB892211-ENU.exe and see if that works on Windows 98? If it still doesn't work then I would say that Microsoft FAILED to verify the function on Windows 98 before posting the system requirements. Edited February 25, 2016 by sdfox7
justacruzr2 Posted February 25, 2016 Author Posted February 25, 2016 @ Commodore/Jumper/Drugwash/sdfox7Thanks for your replies and thanks to you guys that found the original article. I wrote the following before I came here today and saw your replies and I'm going to leave it unchanged (mostly because I don't have time to rewrite it as I have to leave for work soon). Also, I was using the update from the AutoPatcher so I think it probably is the original one which included 98/ME.***********I believe I found that on a website that had an archived Microsoft webpage for kb892211. However, I am having trouble finding that page right now. Here is one website that still lists the original target OS's for this update:http://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/software-update-for-web-folders.63562/At the bottom of that page it includes a link to the original MS webpage for kb892211:http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;892211But now that link goes to:https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/892211which might mean that the original page was modified/changed probably after support for Win98/ME was endedHere is another website that lists this update for win 98SE:http://kbupdate.info/windows-98-second-edition-se-d.phpFurther, if you look at "The Complete List of Hotfixes, Updates, and Addons for Windows 98 Second Edition" on this site, you will see kb892211 listed. It's also in the AutoPatcher. And I believe that if this update was not for 98SE, it would have aborted the install with a "This update is not intended for your operating system" message.Anyway, this is no big deal. I was just trying to find out why the update doesn't include pkmres.dll or where it's supposed to come from.
submix8c Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Chalk it up to a Boo-boo found in the MSI (dated 2005, AFAICT). MS is far from perfect.
Nomen Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Following the archived link to Webfldrs-KB892211-ENU.exe (1759 kb), downloading and unpacking it gives webfldrs.msi (1915 kb). Unpacking the msi gives (among other things) the following 4 cab files, the contents of which are listed under each one:fp4a.cabfp4autl.dll.36E92838_E4EF_404F_BB9D_B225D45C7ACFfp4awec.dll.36E92838_E4EF_404F_BB9D_B225D45C7ACFfpext.msg.36E92838_E4EF_404F_BB9D_B225D45C7ACFmsonsext.cabF6926_msonsext.dll.B1137AFB_11AE_488A_BA0E_E3DE1B3F1F42fKey_nsextint.dll.B1137AFB_11AE_488A_BA0E_E3DE1B3F1F42pkmws.cabF525_pkmws.dll.662E5E6B_7913_4DEE_84E0_F9A52DB890D1Rosebud.cabF324_msdaipp.dll.E8D71C4B_62C9_4D1B_A02F_C916CAE50331F346_msdapml.dll.E8D71C4B_62C9_4D1B_A02F_C916CAE50331In addition to those cabs, there is also Icon.places.exe - no idea what that is (tried to start it, nothing happens).I believe the desired .dll files are all there (above) - just edit the file names to remove the junk and you've got the files, and a bonus file (nsextint.dll). All files have a date-stamp of 9/17/04. But still no Pkmres.dll.
submix8c Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 That MSI will install to Win98SE. Why unpack/extract/rename?There are Registry Entries that get set via the MSI. Open it with "InstEd It!" and take a look.
