Hi folks - Ive been using the WEPOS / POSREADY 2009 patches for years. Today got this error on windows update site - at this url - either express or custom.

Windows Update Mini Tool by Mister X poops out if "Microsoft Update" is used, error with 0x80248015. 

If I use WUMT and ask for "Windows Update" it takes forever and uses 99% of the cpu for over an hour now. 

Any clues? Last updates were Nov 17 2017 all went fine...

Same issue here.
Error 0x80248015.
Hopefully just a temporary glitch.
I think that error refers to a connectivity problem.

Certification of the file "%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\AuthCabs\authcab.cab" expired on 2017-12-03! I think that since MS has slept again.
Changing the date does Microsoft Update runs, but ultimately not recommended.

Confirmed. Date change to pre-december 4th will allow things to work again.

According to a user named ArgHereBeDragons in a thread on the Microsoft Answers Forums, this error appears to be caused by the file C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\AuthCabs\authcab.cab. This CAB file contains an XML file called authorization.xml that has an expiration of 12/3/2017 at 11:59:25 PST. If a user tries to update windows after this time, then Windows Update fails because this file is expired.

Never mind. It just dawned on me you meant changing the system date (= machine date), not the date inside the cabs. Of course! That should work but is not recommended at all.

on a test VM, I tried a lot of things.  I wasn't able to reinstall "Microsoft update" note: not windows update.  Windows update works.  Once I removed Microsoft update and tried to reconfigure it by clicking use microsoft update instead, I was presented with the usual page, however the page is broken.  There is no EULA just a button to accept it, then when excepting it, I never get a pop up to install the active X or browser control.  It then proceeds to tell me it's installed and then takes me back to the 1st page I clicked to install it.  Endless loop.
