jiewmeng
i want to dual boot from my usb - windows 7 install- GParted (or ubuntu install, yet to be decided)so from past experience, i am using GRUB4DOS, its been some time since i last used it. 1st i need to install GRUB4DOS to my USBi will use something like WinGRUB > Tools > Install GRUB? then i need to setup boot entriesi like my structure to be/usb /win7 /gparted... hmm i read from bootland that windows boot files must be in boot/bcd. ok thats fine, if thats the only easy way then i will be fine with /usb (windows 7 setup files here) / ... windows 7 setup files here /gparted /acronis true image for backupshow will i set things up? i think basic commands are map, root, chainloader etc. where are the docs for these commands? this tutorial is broken now. i read from here i can do something like below for acronis true image 10, with the latest true image home 2010 will it work? anyone knowstitle Acronis mediafind --set-root /acronis10.isomap /acronis10.iso (hd32)map --hookroot (hd32)chainloader (hd32)what does (hd32) on lines 3, 5 & 6? to check my understanding of the syntax. find --set-root /acronis10.iso - find the hdd (or partition?) with the file acronis10.iso and set it as the root. but root meaning? map, root & chainloader - what does these mean? jaclaz
Don't mix too things together.(hd32) is the first virtual CD-like device in grub4dos.Before you ask:(0xff) is the last virtual CD-like device in grub4dos, sometimes it works better then (hd32)If you actually READ on boot-land, you should already know the answers to most of your questions.READ the stickies:http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showforum=66particularly:http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=7328http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=8944http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=5041Then SEARCH a bit.Among other, these :http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=9863http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=5041&st=33http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=5041&st=39may interest you. There are more Acronis products versions than stars in the sky , so just try it! ... hmm i read from bootland that windows boot files must be in boot/bcd. ok thats fine, if thats the only easy way then i will be fine withWell, you read, but maybe did not fully understand. When you load bootmgr, it will look on the ROOT of the device from which it is booted, for a folder \boot\ and inside this folder for a file named "BCD", i.e. ROOT\boot\BCD - this can be chnaged though really NOT recommended, expecially until you are more familiar with the tools:http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=8043&hl=http://sites.google.com/site/rmprepusb/tutorials/how-to-create-a-usb-drive-that-will-install-vista-win7-and-server-2008Unfortunately the boot-land "main" server is down right now (not the Forum one, the one with the guide). You'll have to wait one or two days in order to be able to access the guide. In the meantime you can google translate backwards the Russian version:http://greenflash.su/Grub4Dos/Grub4dos.htmhttp://translate.google.it/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fgreenflash.su%2FGrub4Dos%2FGrub4dos.htm&sl=ru&tl=en&hl=&ie=UTF-8jaclaz
