Tomorrow Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 (edited) Hi.Created a Extreme build where almost all possible things are removed but ran into a small snag .When trying to install .NET v.3.5 it fails without no error message.Visual C++ 2005 redistributable install fails with error code 1935.I did some investigation and it seems 2 reasons could be responsible:Event Log removalWinSxS removalAny ideas?.Preset: ; vLite preset file;;#Environment:; vLite v1.2 beta; Framework 2.0.50727.1434; Microsoft Windows NT 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 32-bit;;#Target:; Windows Vista ULTIMATE 32-bit TranceEnergy Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Winsxs. Visual c++ stores its files there by nature, afaik.

shahed26 Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Keep Winsxs, i removed this in past, and it failed to install Visual C++ 2005 redistributable, and caused other runtime files to fail as well.
Tomorrow Posted July 25, 2008 Author Posted July 25, 2008 Big thanks for answers .I guess ill have to see how big of a problem missing Visual C++ is gonna be.Im trying to create a build for running 3dmarks only.01,03 3dmarks install fine but 05,06 & Vantage need Visual C++ to install as a part of their installation process. They install even if this fails but im unsure if they will run.I tested in virtual machine last night.Would s**k if i would have to leave WinSxS in for such a small thing .especially considering its size.Had to keep .NET too because ATI Catalyst needs it.
El Barry Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Are you all sure the problem is winsxs for Visual C++? My current install has winsxs and Windows Update removed and the resdis package (both x86 and x64) installed fine.
Tomorrow Posted July 26, 2008 Author Posted July 26, 2008 No luck.Didnt remove WinSxS but error still there.Gonna try event log
El Barry Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Windows Event Log removed here and working fine.I uploaded my ini for you to check. This build is error free Last_Session.ini
Dobby Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Did anyone figure this out? I'm getting a similar problem with the 2008 redist. I didn't remove winsxs though. I lost the ini I'll post up when I've done another build. It's pretty extreme though most stuff removed. If there is the possibility to integrate this that would be great but I thought it was only possible to integrate hotfixes. Anyone have a solution for this?More info to follow...
Dobby Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 I actually had a couple of problems. Firstly I'd disabled Module Installer service which caused my issue with not being able to install the C++ redist. In my case 2008 version. Secondly the Activation dialog always came up when removing winsxs so I've put that back. FYI here is my last session:Last_Session.ini
