  1. >_> o_O BTW Nice program owlguy!
  2. Oh ah, i've seen this before... I want to say its caused by an Office Component... Well, searching for for the XP search doesn't work on MS site made this happen: http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=gp;en-us;kbdown
  3. Our MS rep said all future OS will be 64bit only. But they are just spokesmen really, MS might change their mind and not even tell those guys until it comes out.
  4. Yes, unfortunately its really hard to troubleshoot this kind of thing because it could virtually be anything. When the computer locks up, when you press the power button (just once) does it start shutting down by itself? Can it go to sleep, like if its a notebook you can close it or if you have one of those keyboards with the moon button on it... OH, how much free hard drive space do you have?
  5. Neither of the two messages you reported should cause your computer to lock up. I doubt that either are the issue. Where your event says "<PC NAME>" is this computer on your LAN? Worst case would be that you wouldn't be able to access the network or internet, not lock up the computer. Is there a server on your LAN?
  6. 1219 is a credentials error. Make sure you are using the correct password. Also make sure you aren't logging onto the same server with two different credential sets. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/98724
  7. Won't changing that now change his HAL? Would sysprep need to be run or will Vista survive chaning the HAL?
  8. There are a lot of recent things on TV and radio saying you can save your gas mileage by driving below 40 and staying off the highways. I was always confused about science until i learned about money. To think about how fast we've gotten our processors in our computers in the past 20 years! Think of this one! My first car I got used in 1998. It was a 12 year old car called the 1986 Subaru. It had no name. It was a 2WD/4WD (switching) station wagon. It got 32MPG highway. I know it got this because at some point during my short owning tenure, the gas gauge broke and I had to keep track and determine how many miles I needed to drive before I would run out of gas. In 2001, I bought a BRAND NEW car, a Hyundai sedan. It only gets 29MPG highway. Is this a step backwards? Don't you think they can make cars get better gas mileage by now? Well, yes they can, they do but you can't buy one. My college professor told me a story he had when he was buying a car in 1978. I forget the exact name (he told me this story like 8 years ago) of the car, but it was one of those larger models like a Lincoln or Cadillac. He had bought the car at the dealer, but they had to order him one and said to pick it up in a couple of days. He came back later and he got the car from them and drove it home. He said that it felt different for him driving it and when he got it home he opened up the hood to take a look around. Inside he said instead of the normal air filter (you older guys remember those big air filters right lol) he had seen on cars before, this one had one that was very large and thin. He didn't really think about it but noticed other parts in the engine that looked strange to him. He soon realised that the car got very good gas mileage. I can't remember how much he said that model originally got, but it was between 8 and 16mpg. He did some testing and determined that the car got 80MPG! He received a phone call about a week after getting it and the dealer said that they had given him the wrong car. They said his car was supposed to go to someone else and they got his real car in. He brought the car back and switched it out. His replacement car was different and did not get the same good gas mileage. He also said that the engine looked like normal engines do. He used this story (for us in class) to explain why some parts of computers (err mainframes) were more advanced than others, secretly complaining about money slowing down technology. He had previously been an engineer for Lockheed before becoming a college professor. Those HHO coolant systems look pretty cool, but I just don't understand how using HHO instead of standard air is so much better for the car.
  9. Yes I notice you staff types always get your names in there like XPer and Cluberti but other people it doesn't show it.
  10. There are plenty of forums like this. It happens because many threads (especially old ones) are brought up in google searches. If you don't want threads to be bumped, admins can do this: create archive sub-forum. Mark as read-only for member mask (all options available for staff) then move threads with no replies in say 6 months in there automatically. IPB has this automatic ability built-in, or at least it did. But really, does it matter that much? You just have to pay attention to what you are doing. Sometimes I forget to look do but its no big deal.
  11. Thanks, but you pointed all this before. You know,a couple of months ago,I was able to click on My Assistant, and I did'nt get this error thing!Something happened to screw this up,and I'm convinced someone has a simple fix for this! Let us say, for example, that this site uses a code feature that wasn't adopted into the standard at the time your browser came out. THis can cause this type of behaviour. You should be able to find old versions of browsers, like Firefox or Opera, and try using the site with those and see if it works properly for you. Also, if you have the "error on page" thing down there, you can double-click on it and it will tell you where the error is. Another reason to get this when the website is perfectly fine and the browser is working properly is that the entirety of the page code is acquired during the GET action, which can cause this. Or, for example, IE is using an outdated locally cached include file (like a JD or CSS or anything) and the one on the website has been revised. if these two files (the new website files and the cached files) do not match up (such as making calls to elements that have been renamed, removed or added) you will get this message as well. EDIT: there is no simple fix. Recommended steps: 1. Clear temporary internet files (with ie closed). 2. Clear history 3. Clear cookies 4. Reboot (to remove possible session data) 5. go back to the page 6. Post your error (if it comes back) to this thread. But all in all, this isn't a site issue as much as a software problem imo.
  12. I would really like to play it. If I was a smart spender, I would have a computer at home able to play it... man I can't save money if I try.
  13. I agree. There are some memtest versions that do not work properly. My favorite is the one that looks like it is testing the memory, and finds no errors and does this even on a board with bad memory in it!
  14. It is definately possible. Especially if the drivers make any calls to Windows components that are not loaded, or perhaps specific .NET assemblies, COM+ or any other thing that may not be enabled or a part of the WinPE by default.
  15. I'm pretty sure that this version you speak of is illegal. http://www.msfn.org/comments.php?shownews=22955
  16. Based on this thread, it would appear you are SOL atm. Best to only use certified drivers in your unattended install, although I would recommend altogether. You can dig through WSIM to see if it gives you an option. My WSIM doesn't have an image to associate with the unattend.xml I have on it, so I can't view all of the available options.
  17. New topic next time huh? The fact that PEIMG said it went in doesn't mean it will work. It does not test for compatibility when installing this way, but it just puts it in the folder. Since no hardware profile is loaded when you do offline editing. You'll have to test it out yourself to see if it works.
  18. I don't believe you can. You can, alternatively, mount the WIM, put the updates in a folder someplace, and edit your SYSPREP.INF (or load the registry hive to use RunOnce) to install the updates when the computer boots up after redeploy. Then you could have an additional program (if you so desired) that would delete the updates after you can confirm that they were run, idea script: IF reg entry exists for kb_x THEN del c:\updates\kb_x
  19. Are you trying to inject these into an XP image or a WinPE?
  20. Changed Identity back to NETWORK SERVICE (default). Attempted to install hotfix, but it failed (newer version already installed). Made cross-post in 2003 forum. Made cross-forum post on DevShed's IIS forum. I am effectively waiting for help at this point, unless I dream up something over the weekend, i'm spent on this issue.
  21. Does your RAID controller have software that records array errors at all?
  22. You might want to run Filemon and then open Outlook to see what its doing. You can specify to just monitor outlook.exe as a filter so it won't show you everything else.
  23. SO you have a program that makes the changes in MSCONFIG? What happens if you go into MSCONFIG yourself and switch it to normal startup?
  24. On any systems where I've had the chance to do an SP3 upgrade (rather than an install with SP3 built-in) I did notice an increase during the boot process. No other things tho. We decided not to continue evaluating SP3 so I haven't done a lot of testing with it.
  25. I believe that there hasn't been sufficient time or usage of Vista 64bit to determine whether or not its truly more stable than 32bit. We do, however, know that x64 is more stable than x86 in prior versions of Windows, like XP, 2000, 2003, etc. I still believe that Vista x64 adoption isn't as high as it should be, since all further Windows releases will be 64bit. You'd figure that besides merely offering 64bit for each type, that only certain versions (like Business for example) would be 64bit only, in an attempt to get companies and developers to start adopting it. It is going to be a major problem when 64 suddenly becomes the only option, and I don't think the period of time offered by the Downgrade Rights program is long enough for a reliable development cycle. Sorry to derail.
