  1. I had that problem also but I uninstalled CCC and use the standalone drivers. Have you tried this or do you need to use the CCC?
  2. The easiest way to optimize the boot of Windows is to use MSCONFIG. Go to the Startup tab and uncheck everything you don't want to start. I have not used Bootvis so I can't help you with that. Basically, anything you can disable to start won't affect the core Windows in most programs, also CCleaner can do this. There are some things that always come back like QuickTime if you have it installed... My computer boots to only 20 processes. For average users, sticking below 30 processes would be your goal. You can check them in Task Manager, but remember to subtract the Taskmgr.exe process from the total.
  3. Yes, we all know about computer problems here!

    BSOD...

lol, they should do the same ads now. then change the code to go from blue to lets say red., lol, no more blue screens, now its a RSOD i think they actually tried that out in early versions of vista too! You are right. I remember that also. Too bad, its better than the bSOD they have now.
  6. I believe that Flex was made with this in mind but who knows what Adobe did with it... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Flex
  7. Verizon support's hold music, which is a bad edit of a Tchaikovsky piece, mixed in with Microsoft Anna telling me the hold time.
  8. These are uncharted waters for me then. I have not modified a standard BOOT.WIM besides injecting NIC and Mass Storage Drivers. All other modifications are via unattend file, or for me WDSClientUnattend.xml.
  9. When I speak of "supported" I am referring to official support. What I am able to do is limited by our licenses and support from Microsoft. I understand it is physically possible to do many things with XP and Imagex. For XP, our solution shall continue to be SoftThinks.
  10. Welcome, What is the OS of your Technician Computer? What is the WAIK version you are using?
  11. Oh, are you saying your Boot Image has is an Windows Setup? or a WDS Capture image?
  12. winpeshl works a lot different. try using x:\windows\system32\DISKPART.exe "/S X:\windows\system32\deploy.txt"
  13. Far Cry ended way too fast. It was fun, i like FPS but not good enough to ever play again. I tried playing Albion on DOSBox again. First time in about... umm.. whenever it came out. It was cool but it was too annoying. Next I might play Strife for the third time!
  14. Look in the help file about STARNET.CMD and/or WINPESHL.INI. Both can launch commands. Use one or the other tho. If you have stuff in your startnet.cmd AND winpeshl.ini, it will ignore the CMD and only use the INI file. I have PE images that use either of the options. Basically, use the startnet.cmd if just starting. the winpeshl.ini is best used if you don't want your end users to have access to the command prompt. Also note that startnet.cmd uses standard .Bat syntax, but the INI is a bit different.
  15. @RIAA: yes OT but NASCAP is more for companies to worry about. They have no power over individuals, thats where RIAA takes over. @uptime: IDK how to respond to that. As I've posted before (perhaps elsewhere) my Win98 pc has my record for having a 3 month uptime. I usually have to reboot my XP computer before the 98 PC. Then again, also consider that I don't use my 98 PC as my main PC. It has its roles that it fulfills and thats it. For example, except for an emergency (like XP computer isn't working) my 98 PC does not go on the internet. Or at least with a web browser. I use my 98 PC primarily to be a dedicated server, so yes it does actually access the internet.
  16. It would be helpful if you could post more than just the event ID number, but what the event description says. There is a lead here, that you are auditing an object: http://www.techsupportforum.com/microsoft-...-event-log.html more info: http://windowsitpro.com/article/articleid/...d-578-logs.html As I have not encountered this before, I recommend further research: http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=hp...ffa6ff748389786

    BSOD...

How many of you remember when either XP or 2000 was being advertised? I remember full 2 page spreads of a BSOD in industry magazines, basically saying you won't ever see these again. I used to cut those out and put them all over my cubicle back then! Those were the best adverts ever!
  21. I have worked in the music business myself. What your co-worker said may not make sense, but there are other reasons to not used burned CDs. In my time (3 years) of being in the music biz, I learned that I can only use pressed CDs or prove ownership of originals of backups. This is because NASCAP randomly "trolls" companies that make or play music. Its a best practice that should be followed, if only to CYA.
  22. This is actually very easy to do. You will kick yourself, I know I did! Open up WDS, and right click on the Boot Images container, and add new image. When you select your file, and hit next, you get to a part where you can change the description/name of the image. Type what you want in there and when its done, hit finish. You will then have two images in Boot Images. When you PXE from a client, it will go to a menu, and the descriptions you typed in will appear as the selections. My test WDS has 4 boot images, so the clients on there see 4 items: Win PE v2.1 (x86) Win PE v3.0 (x64) Vista x86 Setup Server 2008 x64 Setup
  23. You may be correct Frankie. My company does not use the current version of the SoftThinks software, but an older ones. All HPs use the newer version, which makes use of the BCD and the MBR. I only have the beta of the current version but I haven't the time to play with it. My company never did sign up to use the newest version yet. With downsizing and all, it makes me do the job I was hired to do!
