  1. Oh I just remembered. On the Vista/7, if the Network Location is set to Public, you can't get to network shares. You would need to set it to Home (don't know if Work would... you know... work... ), At least on Windows 7, if you are set to Public and try to go to a network share, a pop-up appears saying to enable File Sharing, which after doing so will change your Network Location. You can see your current setting in Network Connections, although if the PC is joined to a domain, it might say "domain" instead of "Work."
  2. Well there is a program on the Server 2008 R2 CD called Startrep.exe (in Sources) you can try, but you'll probably have to re-do your grub since it might not let you boot into Ubuntu afterwards. Here is some info on that program. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2261423
  3. To search for words 3 letters or less, you can use google. For example you can go to google and type this into the search box: site:msfn.org usb xp As far as this issue, it also exists in Vista and Windows 7 as well, however it is more transparent and less annoying. However, the underlying driver model is still there, as is evident that a per-port driver instance can become corrupted in Windows 7, making it so a USB device will not work on a specific port, but will on another. I have a GoFlex drive that refuses to work on either of the front USB ports on my workstation. I think it has something to do with not using the Safely Remove Hardware feature.
  4. There is a registry key to change here for the PS2 issue.
  5. Well the interesting part of this isn't the fact there is an upgrade deal. That has been done before, but before it was free.
  6. There seems to be so much going on in that picture, that I didn't even realise that the background was animated until you mentioned it. Probably could do without it to make a version with a smaller file size.
  7. Package Manager (pkgmgr) is deprecated in the WAIK and was replaced by DISM. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/dd490958.aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744311%28v=ws.10%29
  8. Maybe it is this? NetBIOS Frames protocol

  10. Yeah, they already inflate their numbers by counting VLK and OEM sales into their retail figures. Now since they are marketing Windows 8 RT and Windows Phone 8 as "Windows 8" they can just toss those numbers in there too!
  11. If the W98 machine isn't broadcasting itself, how come the W98 laptop can see it? I want to say that WIn98 uses something that Win7 doesn't. NetBIOS maybe? I can't remember exactly what.
  12. If I could, I'd use Thunderbird but it doesn't work with the email server at work. And the newest version of Tbird has deprecated the plugins I had used for it. So now work email is either through the web or on the phone. Everything else I just use the separate websites, since I use my accounts for different purposes. I'd rather not have them combined, but I can see why some would like that option.
  13. No, the progress code is totally broken and won't work as designed. You could replace that code with an animation to show that it is actually doing something I suppose. As it stands, my use of the HTA has diminished greatly in the past year. I do not know our actual usage of the public functionality but I would guess less than 30%. I likely won't make any code changes for the forseeable future. I typically use it to launch custom deployment apps.
  14. Yes when Vista came out, MS allowed a period for Downgrade Rights, which I think was 8 months or so. I can't remember the exact period. It was very helpful in business since many companies wanted to stick with XP. Even when Windows 7 came out, it had Downgrade Rights to Vista but I don't recall anyone actually using that. I'd expect the same model to continue for Windows 8 to 7, but I haven't heard anything about the program yet.
  15. Well we certainly do not cover everything but there should be a bit here for you!

  18. Using Windows 8 CP, I get to develop a deployment app for it, but I am experiencing a problem with network drives. Now this is just in the initial (actual) development of the workflow, so no automation is done here. This is the behaviour we are seeing: 1. If map network drive with cmd, can see drive in Computer, but end up getting permissions errors. 2. If map network drive with elevated cmd, cannot see drive in Computer, but scripts execute fine. I do not require the ability to see the network drive in Computer, however it is an annoyance. What is the particular reason why it doesn't show up? Oh if it matters, the network share it connects to is on a domain controller (2008 R2) using domain credentials.
  19. Yes the smiley helps for that, however the entire post was likely unnecessary.
  20. The hard drive could cause problems, but I won't jump on the idea that it isn't fast enough. You can run some HDD tests if you like. Also, go into Event Viewer after your next lockup and look for any errors. If you are lucky, Windows may have left a clue in there for you. You can also test your video card (I see from pics that your board has no integrated) using a program like OCCT. http://www.ocbase.com/index.php/software/20-occt
  21. I haven't used Win7PE_SE with this at all, so I can't comment on it, including whatever behaviours you are encountering. I have confirmed (in testing) that it does work in WinPE 3.1 (Win7 SP1 WAIK Supplemental) x64. For the CMD issue, the HTA script checks for CMD presense. That is, if you have an additional CMD open (besides the one startnet.cmd uses) it may not run properly until it is closed. I have not tested what this script behaviour does if the HTA is loaded via winpeshl.ini or any other method. I also do not know what the purpose of the CMD checker is for, since it was a function added by the original programmer who has abandoned this project. There is supposed to be a progress bar that appears on the screen. Since that ability to have a working progress bar did not present itself at the time this HTA was created (Vista) its functionality has not been updated for the newer versions of Imagex.exe or DISM.exe imaging. Even so, many people have trouble being able to accurately read the progress value. Typically, what appears in its place is a gray rectangle in the middle of the screen. However, on some video cards, no box may appear after selecting the drive letter to install to. In these cases, you need to wait until the Confirmation box comes up saying it is done. Have you tried a manual build of this HTA to make sure it is working?

  23. I would hazard a guess that the router supports uPnP which Vista also supports. However, Windows 98 doesn't natively and wouldn't be broadcasting itself as such a device. I know this is an old topic, but basically the Win98 does not show up in Network, but can you get there using UNC Path with computer name or IP Address? Example: \\computername\ \\192.168.100.2\
