  3. so what's the official (tc/tp) word on this ? what to remove from HF/HFSVCPACK cuz I just did another fresh build and KB931768 is the only one showing up as missing!
  4. IE7-WindowsXP-KB931768-x86-enu.exe supersedes these patches: IE7-WindowsXP-KB932538-x86-ENU.exe (ieframe.dll and mshtml.dll) IE7-WindowsXP-KB933105-x86-ENU.exe (urlmon.dll) IE7-WindowsXP-KB933182-x86-ENU.exe (ieframe.dll) WindowsXP-KB920605-v2-x86-ENU.exe (wininet.dll) WindowsXP-KB921397-x86-ENU.exe (mshtml.dll) WindowsXP-KB931505-x86-ENU.exe is only for Microsoft Windows XP Starter Edition WindowsXP-KB931784-x86-ENU.exe supersedes WindowsXP-KB931760-x86-ENU.exe (ntoskrnl.exe)
  5. the first seven of those are obsolete but not the last two WindowsXP-KB933612-x86-ENU.exe because it contains the latest version of inetcomm.dll (v6.0.2900.3100) WindowsXP-KB934161-x86-ENU.exe because it contains the latest version of authz.dll (5.1.2600.3106)
  6. that's the SDK. do regular end-users need whatever extra gunk is included in the SDK or would it be better to go with the HF suggested by Tomalak, extract the .MSI from within and put it in HFSVCPACK_SW?
  7. as borat would say, vary nyce
  8. i just did a new build with the may patches. i have some good news and some bad news ok, the bad news first. with mbsa 2.0, 887998 still shows up missing as does IE7-928090 (they haven't updated the offline scan definitions so it doesn't have support for IE7-931768) the good news. i did another scan, this time with mbsa 2.0.1 (with updated definitions) and 887998 shows up as installed which is highly weird. another bit of bad news that came along with the good news was that IE7-931768 showed up as missing/not installed - no indication as to the status of 928090 (whether installed or not). i think i'll do another build to test for that 931768 issue since i read your post that you did two successful builds with it. did you MBSA scan for compliance though ?
  9. ok, i'll tell ya how i managed to do it. i used the attached hidec.exe to open hfslip (once all the proper changes were made to hfanswer). hidec.exe /w hfslip.cmd makes it entirely invisible, no stealing focus, no nothing only it doesn't quit by itself cuz it gets stuck at the last "press any key" hence i have to end the task manually by guessing that it's finished doing it's magic (it's invisible, remember) when all the temp folders "work" etc. have disappeared hidec.exe
  10. i already have the solution for "i have read the instructions" and every other place where user intervention is required so i can make hfslip itself totally unattended (it's all build into hfslip - all i did was read somebody else's hfanswer file ), just that it gets stuck at "hfslip is now done, press any key to continue" at the end. once i get that, i can make hfslip disappear completely into the background from beginning to end
  11. but i have a solution for #5. if only someone could help with my request there. like put some sort of variable in hfanswer to get rid of that last little thing...
  12. i second the request for #5 up there. it's really irritating when it steals focus away from other programs. and i wouldn't mind if you guys could add a setting (or PM it to me if it already exists) to suppress the very last "press any key to continue" dialog once hfslip is all done cuz then i have a solution for #5 up there
  13. hi, tc/tp (kinda looks like tcp/ip ) i've still got that issue with KB887998 (MS05-004) on XP MCE that I mentioned here. Everything else is getting installed perfectly, just this one hotfix ends up missing. netfx.cab is getting modified (current date). I've attached the required files to this post. I doubt it but could that weird hotfix KB934238 have anything to do with it ? As you can see, I have it installing via HFSVCPACK via a repackaged SFX.
  14. is it possible you could put a condition in hfslip where mstscax.dll or any hotfixes that contain it are ignored if KB925876 is present in HF ? or better yet, include those hotfixes and integrate any other (newer/updated) files those hotfixes contain other than mstscax.dll
  15. do a search. it's already available here
  16. alright, will do, i'm currently doing another build, will try that and if the problem persists, will start a new thread. regarding those dx10 files, i meant to ask, even if they do get slipstreamed, what's the point if they don't get utilized as the underlying API is OS unsupported. my understanding was they included those files cuz if somebody fubarred their dx10 in vista, they could use the common/generic standalone/redistributable to reinstall it again to restore those files.
  17. hi, i just tried out 70506b and all is good - WUA 3.0 and everything except KB887998 seems to again show up missing in MBSA on XP MCE 2K5. since integration of 887998 was itself a recent development, could you maybe check the code again to see if you maybe missed anything. i know it did work when you shipped the initial release with 887998 support, dunno which in interim build it went bad again also, in hfcabs i got two files APR2007_d3dx10_33_x86.cab and DEC2006_d3dx10_00_x86.cab. do i need those or is it okay to get rid of them ? cuz xp don't have dx10 support *yet*. same thing with my win2kpro build - safe to delete?
  18. try these drivers, see if they work, textmode of course

    1.4.3 Issues

you can instead use nlite to create the ISO. that's what I do after hfslip has completed its magic. that combo works perfectly for me

thats exactly what i was thinking and thats exactly why i asked about those specific settings - i was thinking since they take effect in text mode they could very easily get superseded by something else that goes down between then and the desktop showing up. but if such is the case then what kind of stuff would be good to do via hives at textmode ? by the way, i hope you guys don't mind, i'm just trying to get a hang of things here

i posted here cuz i be using 'em with hfslip. besides, i know you guys, i don't know nobody over there well if you don't mind, could you gimme some sort of pros and cons kinda thingies? like which method to pick over the other and why?

i was wondering if somebody could help me out here. i was reading up on hfexpert features and it mentions you can put registry hives in HFEXPERTHIVEINSTALL. i have a few .reg files that i've put in hfsvcpack to accomplish some system tweaks. how do these two methods differ and which one is more effective ? and what are registry hives if not .reg files ? and how can i convert those .reg files to hives? like supposing i have one that unhides system and hidden files among other things (see attachment) will it take effect if used via hfexpert (textmode) or is it better to do via hfsvcpack (at T13) as currently ?
