  1. no no i meant to ask i had deliberately set for those cats to be deleted (i did have the required files in the fix folder but it saves time doesn't it ?). could they have been the cause of the error i was getting ? i.e., the ie7 screwup ?
  2. err.... about those cats ? could they have been behind all this nonsense ?
  3. i've tried ie6 on windows 2000, and the most perfect results i got were using hfslip rather than nlite. i suggest you look it up. ie6 is slipstreamed absolutely perfectly, as well as all of its patches! nlite (to the best of my knowledge) doesn't isn't able to do as good a job cuz win2k post sp4 update rollup shows up missing and you have to manually patch/windowsupdate ie6 patches

  8. in the woids of the inimitable bugs bunny, it woiked man! i don't exactly know what exactly it was but after i tried with only those hotfixes you suggested i was still getting that issue, but i went with your suggestion about hfanswer and replaced mine with a stock one. now in that one of those things that sticks out is that i had selected cats to be deleted whereas in the new one they're not. you think that could have been the cause ? well, anyways, i'm trying to screw it up again - deliberately this time - just to see what gives wish me luck. and thanks a ton for your help.
  9. the description on your page shows *XACT*x86.cab and *xinput*x86.cab files are supported but your list doesn't include those files. how come ? should i keep them ? remove them ? why ?
  10. on second thought, if it's anything other than those x64 files, please enlighten me. how could i have missed those
  11. dang i thought i removed all the incriminating evidence, messed up leaving legitcheck behind didn't I so could you help me out with which DX9 files should and shouldn't be in hfcabs ? i added the stuff from the april 2007 release as well anyways, about that thing in hfguirunonce, i saw that when i was uploading the .log file and removed it right then. i'd already added IE7SLIPSTREAM=1 to hfanswer. i'll get back to you once i do it again your way, i mean exactly your way thanks amigo
  12. hi, tried what you suggested, didn't work. please see attached .log file. thanks
  13. no no i don't need to activate, that's all taken care of if you catch my drift but this mmc thing is driving me nuts
  14. his tommy and tomcat. regarding that problem i mentioned here, it still persists and I haven't been unable to make it go away if IE7 is slipstreamed. granted I do have a ton of hotfixes in there but still, i put IE7 in the mix and the error keeps popping up. IE7 won't install if i put it in SVCPACK (i guess that's got to do with activation bulls***) but if i take that same IE7 setup (made by hfslip) that was supposed to be installed at T13 (SVCPACK) and put it in HFGUIRUNONCE, it gets installed just fine and the mmc error is nowhere to be found. could you guys maybe try and figure out what gives ?
  15. updated to v2.0 Build 1606

yeah i totally eliminated xpize in, then ie7 and all patches, didn't try it with just IE7 but without patches tho. should I ? i'm installing a fresh build right now (SVCPACK again). I don't really have any more time today to do another build with just IE7 without patches but will keep you updated as I do 'em over the next week.

i've been playing around over the weekend and here's some of my findings. the problem basically has to do with IE7 and its patches, that much is obvious. xpize has nothing whatsoever to do with this. now here's where hfslip comes in. I slipstream IE7+patches and the problem pops up. I SVCPACK IE7 and the problem disappears, so does IE7 itself, i.e., hfslip makes the installer but it doesn't get installed at T13. so I make a copy of the IE7 installer that hfslip makes and I install it manually once Windows setup is done, reboot machine and IE7 is there but the problem is not. so my guess is something in the slipstreaming of IE7 is screwing things up for me here...

yes xpize does modify IE7 files, i just checked. if you'll load up the new final version 4.6 and start the installation (you don't have to completely install the program, just start it, then check filenames and cancel if you want), IE7 patching is disabled by default (also mentioned on the xpize site) but the IE7 files that xpize does modify are browseui, hmmapi, ieframe, ieaksie, iernonce, mshtml, occache, shdocvw, shlwapi, url, urlmon, iexplore, and inetcpl (file extensions not listed but i think it's a mixed collection of DLLs and EXEs seeing the filenames) but my question basically was, does xpize modify those files that are in the HFSLIP repackaged IE7 source ?

i was wondering since xpize does modify a few IE7 files, when slipstreaming both IE7 and xpize via HFSLIP, does xpize modify the IE7 files that have been repackaged by HFSLIP ? if it does, is it possible that could be causing the error? i'm thinking of giving it a shot with both the final 4.6 release version of xpize and without to see if there's any difference
  23. create an SFX file that extracts them to whatever location you want and then put the sfx in SVCPACK
