  1. Hi there, I've been searching for a long time for switches to make Tbird 2.0.0.4 completely unattended and silently installed, with no luck. Is there any way to do this, even using WinRAR to make a SFX-like package ? It would be very nice to make it the default e-mail client also, instead of Outlook... Thanks a lot, --ThundernetBR
  2. Hi there, here in Brazil we use the dd/mm/yyyy format to display the date. But when I compiled my up-to-date W2K Pro to make it unattended, both things happens: - The format of the date showing is the US format; - The date showing at the taskbar is (as today, for e.g. in portuguese) Sábado, 24 de mmmm de aaaa. (Instead of showing the month and the year, it keeps showing only mmmm and aaaa, where aaaa=yyyy in English). Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you all, --ThundernetBR
  3. Andromeda43, I am not using any 3d-party screen saver, only the ones that come with XP. But I'm glad to say to you all that my problem is gone by now. Something IE6-related was messing the things, because after I upgraded to IE7 3 days ago, the problem disappeared completely ! Thank you all for your help ! --ThundernetBR
  4. Try these two also: http://www.rpc1.org <--- Maybe a new firmware can solve this problem... http://www.videohelp.com <--- Many users may have the same problem with the specific drive you have. --ThundernetBR
  5. cluberti, I didn't test this yet. But it's more likely that some reg entry is doing the trick. Besides, I'm not a big fan of RDP... --ThundernetBR
  6. Hi there, I am having this strange behaviour with my XP SP2. When it returns from screensaver, at the logon ('Welcome' screen), I have all the accounts listed, but cannot log to any of them, even the Administrator one. What happens is that I use my password (or any password related to each account - I have full rights on every account I created) and the 'Welcome' screen keeps showing - and no logging at all occurs -, like I was using a wrong password. I have to restart the computer. But it doesn't happens all the time, so I have no idea what is going on. By the way, my XP SP2 is original , and it still occurs even after the updates MS released today. Any help will be much appreciated, thank you all. --ThundernetBR I forgot to tell also that I use Spybot S&D and AVG 7.5 every day, both of them updated daily.
  7. XPonElmStreet, maybe it's not a XP-related issue. What is your DVD reader ? Does it have the latest firmware ? Is it a 'combo' drive (CD-writer + DVD reader), a DVD-ROM drive or a DVD-writer ? It always happens whatever the recorded DVD you use, or with just one or two from the same brand ? I'm saying this because a little time ago I had a LG-branded DVD-R media which caused lots of problems - it was smoothly recorded but, after two weeks or so, the contents of these media became unreadable. I lost about 16GB of data on these media; I visited www.videohelp.com and using DVD Identifier to find the Media Code for these DVD-Rs, I detected that the media had a historic of coasters with many people for that specific Media Code... --ThundernetBR
  8. Thank you Joe_K and IcemanND, for the help provided. I'll take a look on these two links. --ThundernetBR
  9. Thanks IcemanND, any hint on how to do this ? It would be enough to me to have a single CD with this option, booting to use WINNT.SIF or not. I believe I'll have to rename WINNT.SIF to anything different so I can bypass it on the 'not-unattended' option, is this right ? --ThundernetBR
  10. I've tried dozens of options to make my unattended XP installation disk to allow also repairing corrupted previous installations - with no luck. The only way to make the same disk to work as an effective rpairing tool is when I rename winnt.sif to anything different (which bypasses unattended installations) or mantaining winnt.sif present but modifying the UnattendMode key under [unattended] section, with all parameters possible - also with no luck. Is there any hidden key or even any other way to make the unattended disk to work as a REPAIRING tool AND unattended installation disk ? BTW, I am not talking about installing console recovering, I am talking about being able to show the repairing option when the installation finds a previous (corrupted) Windows directory. Thank you all ! --ThundernetBR
  11. Thanks, Petr, I'll take a look on all these info you brought to me, maybe this time I will have success and contribute with the PT-BR localization of this nice job of yours and Gape ! Kind regards, --ThundernetBR
  12. I'd suggest the following procedure: 1. To check what files are localized in your Windows version. You can simply extract the original versions of all files contained in sp2.cab and partially in supp.cab from the installation CD ROM and then look for language version. For batch testing of language version either the makecab utility by adding *lang* in .Set InfFileLineFormat= line or by using filever utility from http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/D...AEA77/mpedp.exe The result is the list of files you are looking for. Petr, I did not understand this step, even when I followed it... How can I do makecab build a list of localized files ? I've tried dozens of commands, with no luck. I'm trying to do this because I need a Brazilian Portuguese localization of the SP 2.1a. Also, how can I use the MPEDP.EXE to do this ? Seems to be a utility only useful with Media Player, and not a utility to build a list of files we're looking for... [i'm using Win XP Pro SP2 to 'compile' the BR version of the SP.] Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks a lot, --ThundernetBR
  13. BRAZILIAN Portuguese translation. Has small differences to our Portuguese brothers' native language. My 2 cents for the project ! Best regards, --ThundernetBR lang_ptb.js
  14. Thanks, aLeXis, It seems to be what I was looking for - but with more resources even. So I'll give it a try ! --ThundernetBR
  15. Hi, does anybody knows how do I show that little icon showing the network connection active (like in WinMe, 2000, XP, 2003) ? I never found a registry tweak or a VBS script that brings that icon to 95, 98, 98SE OSes... Thank you all, --ThundernetBR
  16. I second that... or a manual on how to 'localize' your tweaks ! Regards, --ThundernetBR
  17. @Gape: Any possibility to release a beta version (or, if you do prefer, a RC3 version) of the manual of proceedings for localizing (and build) SP2 ? So I could begin downloading all the stuff I'll need, and when SP2.0 Final comes, I'll be ready to built a Brazilian-portuguese version of it. Thanks for your time and patience making so many of us happy to keep with 98SE !
  18. This is what I'm waiting for... so I can build my own customized, PT-BR language update package ! Great job, Gurgelmeyer ! Best regards, --ThundernetBR
  19. I feel the same way... but for Brazilian portuguese translation ! I believe it will be released fully-compatible to all 98SE langs when it reaches the final version. As I stated before, keep on the (hard) good work, Gape ! --ThundernetBR
  20. You can add Brazilian Portuguese to your list ! Tested and confirmed working ! The annoying thing is that, after installing K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 1.18, XP keeps asking which player I want to use for MP3 and DivX files, and even when I set WMP10 to always do the job, it keeps asking again and again.
  21. I'll test if it works for my Brazilian-Portuguese Win XP Pro (SP2) later... The slipstreaming process/batch worked like a charm with BR-PTB version of MP10Setup.exe, so I think there'll be no problems at all. B) Great job !
  22. It's not that easy, just copy WinXP using Ghost. I lost about one week in the process when I faced the problem for the 1st time. Even using Ghost you'll have to make the copy of the files I mentioned above and also install "mergeide.reg" onto the register *before* making the cloning. As I said before, it's essential to copy the 4 or 5 files and register them, because if you don't, you'll have the same problem that everybody: you'll stop in the initial "Welcome" message. Best regards, --ThundernetBR
  23. Look for "mergeide.reg" at Google. B) You can save it as mergeide.reg and insert it onto the register before making the mobo change. There are a few files that you have to copy to WINNT\System32\Drivers also. It's a small register tweak and some files that I always carry in a floppy disk, together with my maintenance tools. Of course it's useless if you don't do the steps mentioned above before changing the mobo... Best regards, and good luck ! --ThundernetBR
  24. Hi Gape, any news about the release of a DIY guide for localized versions to be released together with SP 2.0 Final ? Thanks for all your effort in this great job ! Best regards, --ThundernetBR
  25. Not exactly... Just unmark and check some features here and there when requested by ME's own installation procedure and after that installing the most recent (at that time) versions of DirectX, IE6 and WMP. I cannot remember which ones, but probably DirectX 8.1, IE6 (not SP1 yet) and WMP 8. Worked like a charm for some time before migrating to W2K Pro. By the way, Merry Christmas for all ! --ThundernetBR
