  1. As long as I can remember, I used ME for about 18 months without any problem at all, running stable on a Asus A7V + Duron 800 MHz. B) But at that time I noticed something that must explain this. I customized my whole installation from the very beggining, and some friends of mine *never* became happy using ME, maybe because they installed it with the default settings. Of course it's just a hint, can't assure if this was the difference - or not - for a stable ME to a "average erratic" ME... --ThundernetBR
  2. Gape et all, what about not a SP for ME, but instead an "Enhancement Pack" B) to 98SE ? It would include IE6 with SP1 and hotfixes; WMP 9 plus codecs; .NET Framework; MSN 6.2 (maybe 7) and DirectX 9.0c... all installable in a single click ! Just a suggestion, since there's not too many users of ME as of 98SE... Oh, please don't forget to write the guide to localize 98SE SP 2.0 after its release ! --ThundernetBR
  3. Thanks, Gape, can't wait for it ! Best regards, --ThundernetBR
  4. Hello, is there any possibility to make a version 2.0 in PT-BR language ? I've tried to do so using the localized versions of some of the files, but with no luck. Seems that I just can't substitute many of the DLLs contained inside version 1.6.2, or even avoid the desktop to change its language from english... Maybe a "how-to" document explaining step by step how the package is build be helpful... Thanks a lot, --ThundernetBR
  5. The best one I can remember of is Ontrack's EasyRecovery Pro, it's currently on version 6.04.08 . http://www.ontrack.com You can customize your recovering from a quickly one to a more professional-like recover. The last one is veeeery slow , but you can virtually recover everything. If you just formatted your HD, without re-partioning it or installing new OS, you can actually recover 100% of your data. Works on FAT/FAT32/NTFS file systems.
  6. Here in Brazil lots of people still use the old (and good for them...) Win98SE. It would be quite cool a unattended customized install CD... Maybe the "click-here-reboot-click-there" procedures could be done unattended using some .vbs scripts, couldn't them ? There's a guy who did a 98SE Service Pack of its own - sadly, it only works for the U.S. (and few others) versions of 98SE. He's working on version 1.6 (currently it's available on version 1.5). Take a look at http://exuberant.ms11.net/98sesp.html . BUT... it doesn't install DirectX, IE6, WMP9, their patches and so on. What brings us back to this topic's relevancy...
  7. Just some information. I'm just trying a new install on this very machine where I'm typing this message, and it's simply as expanding all the files (using WinRAR, in my case) that are inside the 61.76***.exe (downloaded from nVidia, since it's WHQL-labeled) to a folder under $OEM$\$1\Drivers\002_GART\6176 - and calling it from winnt.sif (OEM PnP Drivers Path...). The Control Panel works fine, using this method. Just for reference, I did before the same install using StarStorm's modified/tweaked 56.72X, unsuccessfully. Seems that Winnt.sif can only 'see' digitally-signed drivers.
  8. Consider using MagicLAN (Samsung) also: http://www.magiclan.com . At this very moment I'm using a Samsung SWL-2210P PCI card, and some people here uses also D-Link cards (all the DWL-520 variants...) and Samsung SWL-2300P PCI cards. I managed to put (and successfully install unattended) the SWL-2210P and -2300P models into \$OEM$\$1\Drivers, only using the .inf, .cat and .sys files, instead of their control panels' software - they're only relevant when you're using Windows 98/98SE/Me, not really necessary when using XP/2000. All you have to do is configure the ESSID parameter into XP, the IP address (if required by your ISP, of course) and create your network connection (I do prefer to make these steps as soon as XP is first loaded, instead of making it available unattended-like). I can send you these, they're small enough to go attached to an e-mail. Please let me know if you're interested.
  9. I figure it out how to install it silently using a simple (adapted - borrowed from someone that made it to use with CloneCD , sorry, I don't remember his name... ) .vbs file. You have to make it all the way to get the files from the installer, as explained for Firefox and Mozilla, and I do use it as the last program to be installed. Copy, paste and save (in the same folder that you copied your Tbird installation files) as tbird.vbs using any text editor: Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") WshShell.Popup "Don't move the mouse nor press any key!",5," - WARNING - ",48 WshShell.Run ("<YOUR-INSTALLATION-FOLDER-HERE>Setup.exe -ma -ira") WScript.Sleep 25000 WshShell.SendKeys "{-}" WScript.Sleep 1000 WshShell.SendKeys "{TAB}" WScript.Sleep 1000 WshShell.SendKeys "{ENTER}" WScript.Quit Now paste this to your .cmd file (the last one that you use - I have to figure it out how to make it work using RunOnceEx method ): ECHO Mozilla Thunderbird 0.7.2... start /wait <THE-SAME-FOLDER-YOU-CHOSE-ABOVE-WITHOUT-QUOTES>tbird.vbs That's it, hope you can find it useful and also make small changes to your own programs... EDIT: This isn't working well when using the unattended method, only directly running from the .vbs AFTER installing XP. I'm working on a fix to this, seems to be something related to environment variables, or maybe with the time-related parameters of the VBScript code.
  10. Thanks, AAronXP, removing the Q824145 hotfix was sufficient to solve this issue ! Now I got the same svcpack.inf as stated above, without the Q824145, and there's nothing else showing in Windows (Critical) Update ! Almost ready to make a (Brazilian) portuguese translation of the Unattended XP CD Guide... ... (but I think it's better to wait until SP2 is released... ).
  11. Hello ALL, collecting all the tricks and hints here (silently... ) my unattended XP is almost done, with all the whistles and bells that really matters... at least for me, of course ! But the 832894 hotfix is really annoying. It's already installed BEFORE 831167 as stated in the svcpack.inf, and it's confirmed when I click on IE6's 'About', but when I go to Windows Update to check what else is missing, it keeps showing this hotfix as not installed... So what am I doing wrong ? Must I put the hotfix 832894 AFTER 831167 ? My svcpack.inf is as follows: [Version] Signature="$Windows NT$" MajorVersion=5 MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=2600 [setupData] CatalogSubDir="\i386\Update" [ProductCatalogsToInstall] KB826939.cat [setupHotfixesToRun] update.exe -q -n js56nptb.exe /Q:A /R:N DX9NTopk.exe Q322011.exe /Q /O /U /N /Z q810847.exe /Q:A /R:N q811114.exe /Q /O /U /N /Z q813951.exe /Q:A /R:N q814995.exe /Q /O /U /N /Z q816093.exe /Q:A /R:N q820223.exe /Q:A /R:N q820291.exe /Q /O /U /N /Z q821253.exe /Q /O /U /N /Z q823182.exe /Q /O /U /N /Z q824105.exe /Q /O /U /N /Z q824141.exe /Q /O /U /N /Z q825119.exe /Q /O /U /N /Z q828035.exe /Q /O /U /N /Z q828750.exe /Q:A /R:N WMP9MM2.EXE q828026.exe /Q /O /U /N /Z q828741.exe /Q /O /U /N /Z q835732.exe /Q /O /U /N /Z q837001.exe /Q /O /U /N /Z Q832894.exe /Q:A /R:N q837009.exe /Q:A /R:N Q831167.exe /Q:A /R:N q840374.exe /Q /O /U /N /Z q822603.exe /Q /O /U /N /Z q824145.exe /Q:A /R:N q826942.exe /Q /O /U /N /Z q833998.exe /Q /O /U /N /Z q837272.exe /Q /O /U /N /Z qchain.exe I am using Windows XP Pro SP1 (not SP1a), Brazilian portuguese. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks !
  12. I think it's a topic for a (very) long discussion. I worked to a company here in Brazil a couple of years ago as a MS Official OEM Integrator (System Builder) deploying original Windows licenses, and I can tell you, it's a very good deal - but only to Microsoft ! They have a 'policy' that 'transfers' all the support to the OEM . It means that YOU (and not MS ) will have to give all your best resources to troubleshoot your clients' askings, instead of just giving them a MS phone number. Even if you get all the licenses needed to legally sell unattended versions of Windows (what I really doubt, for each company has its own software distribution/selling policy), probably you'll find yourself being responsible for all support of all the stuff you packed together...
  13. gosh, it seems to be very good, haven't tested yet. Where do I put the source.bat file and, also, how do I make it run ? Using Winnt.sif, for instance ? Does this .bat make the installation in 'DOS-like' mode (the previous process before the installation goes under GUI) be skipped at all ? It will save about 10-15 minutes, it's that correct ? Thanks for the great job !
  14. Hi folks, I am using all of your tips and tricks to build not only an unattended Windows XP SP1 install CD, but also Windows 2000 SP4 Professional (using slightly different 'adapted' Winnt.sif files). But I can't find anywhere how to install AVG (Grisoft's free antivirus) 7.0.193 (and its more recent update - 260.2.7 as of today) unattended. Any hint ? Also, I am trying to change Nero's default language from US English to my native Brazilian Portuguese, unsuccessfully... The language pack can be decompressed but creates 4 or more folders, and I couldn't figure out which ones I must have or not. Thanks all, --ThundernetBR
