duude you can go at it for years, according to bold_fortune, he claims it took him several years to find out all the files and what they are, of corse now with this information available I have been able to improve upon that, and create a post-install deletion script to make it work properly, if what you people are doing is to remove additional files from within the "ini"'s I strongly advise against it as it will most certainly brake your installation process, because some of those files (like ntfs.sys) are needed for the setup to work, so the only trully safe method to delete additional files from it is to delete them after installation, you can get some info about it here : - Go over http://www.bold-fortune.com/forums/index.php?showforum=13 bold_fortune's work all from the start read every line delete every file that you can and test if it works - read my Microsuck Winblows XP : Deleted Edition files for additional information or just go over the entire 700 dll files manually (in the best case if you select all nLite components for removal) reboot and test if all your system still works (and sometimes it wont) then reinstall again etc... but if you do find out about some files which do not appear in my Deleted Edition scripts and are not required for XP SP1 or XP SP0 boot process, and you know what those files are doing, let me know.

need a hard drive big enough to contain so mutch music that you can't handle with a playlist of .ape files, you're probably one of the people with the new hard drives (250 GB ?). yes some are deletable, some are not, but if you compare version 0.8.3 (which you can make work with only 3 plugin .dlls : foo_ui_std.dll, foo_out_ks.dll, foo_ape.dll) with version 0.9.x you will find that the minimum number of plugins for minimal running has increased to somewhere around 5 or 6 which would also need to include the new "api plugin" that is required for all 0.9 versions. I don't know why you like internal file format converters, but I can certainly tell you that if you want a small and fast player for audiophiles, you are not going to bloat, CLI decoding is hardly at all relevant to an audio player, it is an audio converter thing, if you want to convert files you run an audio converter, if you want to play files you run an audio player, maybe the media library has some weight to be implemented, but the price that it costs is just too high, and wasting so many big good things for just one small thing is not a wise decision, you cannot start implementing features without end into an audio player, if only programmers could understand how to stick to what the program is supposed to do, foobar2000 is an audio player, conversion in my opinion is out of an audio player's range, and so is media library, that is what we have directories to sort our information. the "faster to type a little keyword" is a very cpu-expensive process, it doesn't cost as much to specify a directory where to find a particular file (in a computer sense of corse). why do you use foobar2000 if you are not an audiophile ? im sure things like winamp would be much more suitable for purposes sutch as "easy" and "convenient" ? you probably know by now that these words don't rhyme with "professional" and "accurate"

media library is going to be a system wastage in memory and in speed, the slow ape tag updating is something I can live with especially if I don't do that in the first place with foobar2000 I do that with the professional ape tagger v2.0. I don't see any practical uses to the diskwriter, if I need to convert my .ape files I use monkeys audio in the first place...because it's "probably" (joking ! it IS faster) faster at decoding, and will give a much better signal than any of these methods... it seems to me that since the old programmer left the project ( the good one who knew what foobar2000 was all about, which I may need to remind you is an audiophile audio player ) the project has taken a new turn to become one of these "conventional" media player trends, audiophiles don't need madia libraries, they know where their files/data is, they don't need disk writer because if they did they would use a professional program that deals with it to convert the data directly, last but not least audiphiles don't need wastage of cpu and memory of their systems they need it to run as fast as possible with as little as possible, I think this new programmer duude is making things too different to create some other player, one which already exists (winamp ?) and has all these crappy features like media library and disk writer, which as I said are only needed for the non-audiophile people, a waste of efforts if I may comment, especially if all of the above already exists, and winamp im sure, does it better than foobar2000 (because foobar2000 was never designed for that, it was designed as I said for something much smaller without heavy database management alrogorithms), I think the new developer wants to make an "another" audio player, which will not be as good as other players (winamp) currently are, not to mention the reinvention of an already existing thing, that developer should quit and start working on soemthing else, could obviously this duude just does not know what he is doing. and duue one last comment, version numbers never represent anything, they are useless, and in some cases the higher is the version number the worse a program is, did you hear about www.oldversion.com ? why do you think they exist ? why would anyone visit a site which contains old versions of software ? simple and I quote from the site "because new version is not always better"

all the version of foobar above 0.8.3 take twice more memory and work much slower and have bigger libraries, what exctly is better in the new version that makes it worth the 2x memory and 2x slowness ? as far as I have noticed there are no bugs in 0.8.3

(and if this license change is not good enough, then your "other" license file can be changed as well). if you haven't noticed yet I have published NVIDIA and ATI drivers on my page, which of corse have a different license "agreement", same goes for the 3 winblows .dll files in deleted edition (which fix the blaster worm during deleted edition "installation") the new license is better so don't you think people would prefer that one ? you have to understand that whenever people download something they read MY license, then they read the in-file license, in both cases they read a good license which suits their needs, EVEN IF we had a legal problem here, the users are the ones that gain, they were only exposed to MY new license, so you can't sue them anyway, the users will be able to KEEP their newly-licensed software because they were not exposed to any of your licensing material (which as mentioned above can be taken care of) which means anyone downloading (obviously) your files from MY site, are going to download and use it under MY terms because (1) they download the material from MY site and (2) the material is now mine (because it is on my site) and it uses my license, for any legal problems please contact my lawyers, I can only offer one good advice, if you want to make good things that people will like, you might wanna try to avoid inconsistencies between your site's legal terms and your file's legal terms, which (obviously) in this case allows me to do what I did, which is something that you can verify with my lawyers (which I did).

what can a worm do to a system on which all the ports are closed ? that is what I am trying to fix in my closing ports thread, if we manage to close all those ports 1025, 138, 139, 455. there will simply not be anything a wor mcan connect to, thus there will not be anything for it to be able to do. because a connection to the system cannot be established, if you'd ask me, I say the worm problem can be easily fixed. I do agree with the assessment not to update *everything*, only the protocol which has open ports (RPC?), which only needs one update/security fix. I can't figure out why we need updates for a computer that has all it's ports closed, espcially with a firewall (except of corse for private protocols).

NTFS writing is just as suck on linux as ext3 writing on winblows. I don't know winblows 2003, I've seen it once, made me throw up. you're on your own if you're going to test deleted edition on 2003, I think you're gonna have to add at least as much deletion lines into the batch files as there are now bill it seems increases his crap 2x more every new version, but recently, he increased the size to 10x (from 400 mb (2003) to 4000 mb (vista)), he's getting better, anytime we add 400 lines of "del" and "deltree" codes into Deleted Edition, bill adds 4000 new files, not something I can keep up with, same thing with all these "service packs", every version adds at least 100 more new files, the directx "drivers" add by themselves over 100 files (not needed files). at least, with Deleted Edition you can have less than 300 files in the windows directory (recursively). I hope to be able to achieve as low as 100 total winblows files.

I recommend NOT to use ntfs filesystem on the boot drive, and unfortunately Deleted Edition does not cover writing to ntfs volumes in real mode DOS (does it work anywhere other than winblows ?) not even Linux can write to ntfs drives, ntfs sucks, use fat16 on your boot drive C and make sure it's size is less than 2 GB (you don't need any more than that for your boot drive anyway). fat16 is fastest of all winblows filesystems, especially with a 64K cluster size. yes it is very likely that if you kill winlogon.exe and lsass.exe you will not be able to : 1. use CTRL+ALT+DELETE menu 2. be able to use winblows' shutdown/restart (maybe standby too) 3. possibly loose the ability to copy text from firefox but think for a moment, what do you do when you press CTRL+ALT+DELETE ? what do you need it for ? for me the answer is simple, when there is no other task manager can be run, you can try to use CTRL+ALT+DELETE to get the winblows task manager, but we already have a much better task manager so we don't need it. what is special about winblows' shutdown/restart ? nothing, the only thing that matters is to make sure that cached hard disk data gets written to disk and not get lost, that is easily accomplished with Sysinternals's Sync, it's on their site, you can find it. you have no problem to shutdown/restart with your buttons as long as you run Sync first, so all you have to do is run Sync and press the shutdown/restart buttons. im afraid that the only way to support ntfs, is to get writing support for ntfs under DOS.

what functionality ? how come I did not loose any functionality ? that part from sysinternals is not necessarilly to be run, only if you choose to, obviously you should only do that if it suits you, however, the deleted edition is about to have a working winblows xp version at minimum amount of space, it has the same functionality, obviously for those that choose to use the sysinternals idea in ADDITION to the deleted edition's basic deletion scripts (which have nothing to do with sysinternals), then it's all welcome for more efficiency. the deleted edition turns a ~300 MB winblows xp (build 0) (nLite all components removed) into a < 100 MB (for now). the addition of deleted driver versions for video cards, and pre-deleted drivers for other components make it even better. granted, this is not linux, there is an optimized linux version already, but I have yet to see a winblows xp version which is less than 100 MB in size (on disk after installation, not compressed), and I have yet to see a winblows xp version which does not create files of it's own, files like inf caches, reinstallbackups, last known good backups.... I don't see what functionality was lost here, the obvious loss of functionality from killing the winblows xp processes only occurs if imho you kill the processes. everyone please keep in mind this is an ALPHA version, that means it is not yet designed to run without examining the scripts and manually testing FIRST. however, the drivers for video cards are already tested, and are fully working, the nvidia drivers don't loose any functionality, because you use RivaTuner to control the various driver parameters, and the ATI driver parameters have registry entries which have been provided on the site, there is no need for programs when you can change registry, remember Deleted Edition is a 1337 thing, anyone 1337 enough will be able to get his functionality back if he lost something important because of Deleted Edition (and you might want to start with Comrade's signature). can those Auto things run in real DOS mode ?
