  1. "if it's not broke, don't fix it" newer windows = more bloat (newer = bigger) smaller = faster (less code) etc... same reason I am running XP with service pack 0 as for security, you do NOT put security in to the hands of others, not microsuck and not anyone else, it is up to YOU to implement your own "security fixes", I have proven that it can be done with service pack 0, I can prove that it can be done with 2003, although, less work in needed for the latter, but as a result more work is needed to "unsecure" it in some places - too bad that was not the default for all the microcrap I found the problem - it's "Net Logon", needs to be left to work btw you may find that the server 2003 is no better than xp, in fact it is slower - a little, especially when it comes to memory bandwidth (~200 MB/s reduced memory average speed, a little higher latency), most significant impact is in memory read speed (~1000 MB/s) - maybe due to new caching algorithms. there is however one advantage - lower latency default GUI/Shell (explorer.exe/csrss.exe/win32k.sys), perhaps if will be deemed necessary and important (considering deleted edition uses a special deleted edition version of blackbox, which does not really need any more speed as it is already uses <1% on a P3 500 Mhz and < 1 MB physical memory (ICC10 SSE version)) I will consider importing those files into XP SP0 and SP1. for every thing you do in a computer there must be a reason - I load SP1 because I know for sure exactly what I need from it (support for partitions larger than 127 GB), and I load SP0 because I DONT need support for that, if I know that my system is going to open to the internet - I will delete the .sys driver from the system of the faulty component instead of installing any service pack or any part of a service pack (updates) don't know how to explain why that approch is, but I can only quote I guess that works well for me btw, sig test system is outdated, this is the new one: http://manoa.flnet.org/newsystem.html
  2. "the signature for Windows Server is invalid. the error code is e. not enough storage available to complete this operation" setup causes fatal error I will try with catalog service included, for now here is the config that failed the catalogs service did not help but prevented another error during the boot setup stage with some .exe file, im trying to keep certificate management as well, but that didn't help either I have narrowed down the location of the bug, it is located in one of the red services components 3SEE_Client___IntelDRV__DirectX__OpenGL__SMP__CMD__NoSFCPatch__USBPatch___Prio__v145b2.ini
  3. 0a6637afa0bec8cc61ba9c335d9da3e5 thanks!, bug #2: /noexecute=optin /noexecute=alwaysoff in boot.ini, appear like this when set to alwaysoff, the /noexecute appears twice in the boot.ini, the new setting appears the latter btw, in case you whant to disable it completely (always off) I think you can use /EXECUTE instead of "noexecute"
  4. how can you disable automatic creation of last session presets ?
  5. minimum space requirement is not disabled even if disabled, gives error when selecting a partition that the minimum space requirement of 1300 MB, the target partition has 1000 MB and the ISO size is 90 MB SP3RC2_Client___IntelDRV__DirectX__OpenGL__SMP__CMD__MaxConnPatch__NoSFCPatch__USBPatch___Prio__v145b2.ini
  6. is there a version of nLite that runs on IA64 ? and can delete files from XP 64-bit ?
  7. check out the stuff in my signature, it is designed to delete an already-existing installation
  8. are you sayin that the decoder requires framework ?

  10. in regard to "you really need it", maybe not "need it" as in I can't live without it, but yes if it gives a 10% improvement in performance for various kinds of software compared to service pack 0, then I think I need it, don't need the rest of the crap it brings in it's 350MB package, but I will take care of that with the deleted edition if it actually does proove to be faster.... but does it ? did anyone run any tests ?
  11. does nLite work with the latest (beta) XP service pack ? did anyone try it what are those "performance improvements" in it ? did anyone notice them when they tried it ?
  12. thanks I will check all ! I found a better solution: download: http://www.marvell.com/drivers/driverDispl...d=103&pId=3
  13. Marvell Network Miniport driver fails to install even after updating the installer version to 3.1 Internal error 2738 http://www.abit.com.tw/page/mi/download/do...KET_TYPE=LGA775 ftp://ftp.abit.com.tw/pub/download/driver..._lan/v86133.zip EVERYTHING.INI
  14. can someone just post the file itself ?
  15. there seems to be some kind of problem with the INI's or maybe the actual deletion, for example what do you see in your selected for removal components screen on a xp sp 0 using this settings file ? the ONLY unselected components that should be are : AGP Filters, DHCP Service, OpenGL Support, IPX Protocol and Command Line Utilities. LAST_SESSION.INI
  16. I think it's all because of me when I posted a solution to this "problem"
  17. what you mean by "this?", bold fortune guide, my site or this topic ?
  18. did not know anyone is actually considering helping me with that project, I am working on it most of the time, but a ram disk would be a good addition to it, that site you told me does not contain the ramdisk only the script, you know where the ramdisk itself is the driver ?
  19. aha now I see you are one of the dudes that posted at the time ehehe, I like the idea of a ramdrive for temporary files, although deleted edition is not designed for installations in the first place.... it is considered a mistake to "install" software according to deleted edition philosophy, those who install software are not 1337, so deleted edition was made for the 1337, and the people that do need the temporary space will never have enough of it in ram, unless there are 4 GB of it in the system......then it starts to make sense. well it's good to know that duudes from the boot land are also here, I forgot about that site completely, yhea I should visit it, there seems to be many projects going on there, and seem to be worth investgating further. I totally forgot I have an account there. lol duude you seem to be famous on that site.
  20. how do you make a ram drive for temporary files ?
  21. there is a difference between iso < 50 Mb and on disk < 50 MB, those projects seem to have on disk space of around 83 MB, that is mutch more, and they don't support GUI operations if they go any lower, not really the same thing as I do. and those projects seem to be buggy, using comlex scripts and BS, my solution is elegant and simple.
  22. no need to tell, only need to download, go to deleted edition site it will explain most of what I am runnint not all, and no, it is not an nLite-only deletion, but yes I do have ALL components selected when removing in nLite, but I am removing beyond that even more, all can be understood from my site, along with the config and the ini's and the scripts and even an ISO with my own dos boot disk that I made..... just make sure you pack at least basic DOS knowledge, a little linux is recommened, and try to avoid using explorer.exe as your shell, and you should be fine. oh and.... might want to get used to not seeing icons for some things, but that's for the later versions (after 1.1).
  23. I made a 2k version and it is good, are you willing to make the xp version ? and maybe then we can evaluate the differences when we have something on hand, if you really believe it will be up to 1 mb bigger than the 2k version of the file we may be able to properly determine the exact differences, although there are no instability I have encountered, other than the lack of network connections being unavailable there is nothing wrong with it... even if you do manage to get it as small as that, you are still forgetting the bigger picture, the other files, are always smaller, all win2k files are always smaller, there is not one xp file that is smaller than it's win2k version, look at netshell.dll, it's 1.5 mb in xp and only 400 kb in 2k, of corse it will take some hacking before it will be possible to use any of those files safely in xp, and I am still working on that. if you think big, look at a wider range of things, one file 500 kb bigger maybe nothing, take 10 files bigger by 500 kb, and you find yourself counting.
  24. too much, I need a maximum of 100 MB ISO and a maximum of 200 MB on disk to give you any answers, 334 only for the system32 directory is better to suicide than run something like that, my xp is < 50 MB total on disk, im sure I could have helped you a little if you were on xp, if you think of using winblows xp you might find some info on my site later on when it will be up.
