Windopain, thank you! I cannot believe that I missed this post. Bug is in the SCSI/RAID removal, if you use Dell OEM CD. Gonna fix in the next update, probably 1.5 beta, until then either keep SCSI or add that line back to txtsetup.sif as the Windopain posted.

Single core cpu and that amount of RAM memory is definitely XP candidate. XP Lite will fly, if you by some chance missed it try nLite. If you don't need faster than full XP SP2 then try Vista Lite.
-
It already works if you integrate SP1. Guide for integration via capture is up in this thread. Only problem is if you remove then try to install SP1 on it.
-
Yes it should help, more than expensive memory that's for sure. Well first of all you will have your settings in a preset and the image for an easy reinstall. No need to disable anything after install, it's not even there. Faster install, easier to maintain...safer. To me the fact that I don't have to bother with the stuff that just gets in the way is a reason enough, speedup that comes from it is a bonus. legolash2o is the perfect candidate for this question, maybe he replies, I'm too subjective. Use it for a few weeks in a Vista trial mode on another partition, see what you need and don't need, then go back to full and see if you feel the difference. Do a few benchmarks, also see how much time you spend on configuring the full os in comparison to the vlited one.

If you remove some components (haven't tested which because it seems it's many of them) then it fails. So you can use vLite for tweaks, unattended and integrations, just don't remove components if you will install SP on that install. Since I never installed SP on the machine without reinstalling integrated one I don't see this as a minus. It is for average users but then again they shouldn't tamper with the OS in the first place.
-
Oo finally someone mentioning vLite, I was starting to wonder am I the only one using it (I'm having this feeling because nLite is 4 times as popular) Thanks for the news.

kontini, because it is locked as Online package type (meaning you can only run it on the OS to which you will install it on). For example Hotfixes are offline and online, so they can be integrated (offline). Alpha versions of Service pack were like hotfixes so it was possible to integrate it, it was significantly bigger as well.

Need to keep? Nothing. Check Recommended selection in Compatibilities.

This method works, I'm now on SP1 RC lite: http://www.winbeta.org/comments.php?catid=1&id=9536 All done from within virtual machine, 2 hours for the whole process but that's only because SP installs for an hour and then hour for image compression.

So I presume the folders were ANSI in both trials. It does work with 64bit sofware, I did try your preset with xp x64 sp2 and it worked. Don't you think more people would report that if it's not something special in your situation. Then lets go more specific, try to test with Winrar Amd64\sysoc.in_ If there is Amd64\sysoc.inf as well then delete it manually and let me know, thx.

Your plan sounds fine, partitions for OS installs on the same drive, games on a third partition (or a second drive), first XP then Vista from it. Never heard of such file loss issue. Maybe that time you installed Vista by booting from the DVD then when installed it will rename the partition/drive it's on to C-drive, even if in XP that is actually a D-drive. That can bring some confusion but your is probably some different issue, never heard of 600GB disappearing on their own, maybe corruption of the file table, next time try some undelete software.
-
I tried it (with Italian translation) and it didn't fail. Is your path with ANSI characters only? Meaning do you keep Windows Installation files extracted into some simple folder like: D:\XPCD or it has some unusual characters in the path? Please try it in some simple path if you didn't. Also an antivirus which scans all files, try to disable or set to scan executables only. And reinstall nLite, first delete all the root files (you don't have to delete presets) and reinstall.
-
Uh you selected Components page just to manually remove these files: swtchbrd.bmp cliconfg.exe cliconfg.dll iexpress.exe moricons.dll powercfg.exe That is kinda tricky situation, manually removed files are to be tested. Please try in virtual PC without these or disable Components page if you won't remove any components.

Arneh, good, it's moving. If at least they give slipstreamed Vista SP1 ISO this way...but anyway I'm ok with it now, capturing in virtual machine is painless. I guess MS and video will bring down the pipes
-
Arneh, it will sound too convenient but it's already planned that way, hidden with the -extreme switch, available in the next version.

If you tell people remove only double they will go: "and why would I keep this other gigabyte or so, lets try deleting all". Just a warning would be appropriate. Same as cpanel failed some hotfixes will as well, I've been testing this long time ago. Thing is if you want to tamper with Winsxs say goodbye to hotfixes and component install. I can't tell you how much I want that folder cleaned as well, working on it for later. Also if you reinstall often then who cares that hotfixes don't work, just integrate and reinstall when there are enough of them to justify that action. Or in case of SP1 reinstall on new version, hotfixes are not needed for now. I will be removing the whole (at least 95%) of winsxs in my next install. Why stop on double if it is already broken
-
To capture? Yes, just imagex.exe. Then took install.wim and copied into the retail Sources folder.
-
Since you said SP2 then SP2.cab must be there. Also don't test after nlite, test before it.
-
Attach your preset. And you can't find that issue because it's not something that happens every time, it's the way you used it but we'll see what after the preset.
-
Thx...but: where is the warning that if they delete (insert who knows which) folder in Winsxs they won't be able to boot. And that hotfixes might fail to install after tampering with Winsxs doubles. Oh even and Control Panel - Features. Try it
-
Try without CDkey, or without whole unattended to see if that is the case. I presume it's the wrong CDkey for the image which is only one left and auto-selected but I could be wrong. edit: yup confirmed. Enter Ultimate key into the Business edition and you can have this issue.
-
No it's not normal. Try to recopy that CD to some new folder on the hdd and retry nLite on it. But also check the amd64\Driver.cab, SP1.cab and SP2.cab with Winrar - Test to see if they are corrupted. That can't be integrated. Only like an addon to silently install.
-
Yeah 1.4.1 has that fixed, thx for the confirmation.

XP installation hangs with 9 min left: "Saving settings"
nuhi replied to kingharrie's topic in nLite
Wizmaster, there is IE7.05? Sidebar in XP? liuzhigao, for you 1.4.1 will help. -

nuhi replied to kingharrie's topic in nLite
Wizmaster, good, since it didn't work on older then it's not the same issue. It must be addons then, you could try to take out half by half in virtual tests and let me know when you find which one it is, thx.
