Yes i meant hotfixes by request (or not as not all fixes all available through windows update or wsus). I managed to compile almost automatically a hotfixes list for windows 2003 ( a lot with a low numbers might in fact not be hotfixes). I'll take time to read each one and remove it from the list if it doesn't contains any real fix that i can slipstream. Edit reason: Updated the list

Did you tried with another profile (user account) ?

Here is the link for client computers and this one should work for servers (you need to extract DTK3.2.1-WINPE-22.exe from the package and syscfg is the tool to edit asset tag and bios options).

SSD SAS RAID on a Dell PowerEdge R710 - possible?
allen2 replied to tarquel's topic in Hardware Hangout
Just for your last question: usually sas connectors works on sata drives (and not the other way around). If you really want a very high speed, you might be also intereted in fusionio solutions but those are pci-express. HP is begining to use those in thiers servers and blade. -
Use secpol.msc and tweak the password requirement options (like complexity might be disabled, passwords history also, length). See there the full explanation from MS.

Freeze like theese are often memory related. You should try testing your memory with memtest.

Never seen it fail but i would never trust a tool at 100%.

SATA to IDE adapters: which/what/why?
allen2 replied to dencorso's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
It appears to the system as IDE, so what legacy settings do you mean? Modern large HDDs reach 150-160MB/sec at the beginning of the disk, so exhausting SATA1. The fastest SSDs can triple that speed; that is beyond SATA2 capabilities, hence the need for 6Gbit/sec (which will likely be surpassed at the consumer high-end within a year or two). Although i don't agree with esecallum, which sata hard drive can really achieve such speed and which ssd can provide more than 400MB/s (except pci-e based one) on incompressible data ? There are a lot of other factors than interface speed that provide in the end more speed to the end user (like NCQ and i don't how it could work through an ide controller but with a specific driver perhaps). -
I am not sure if really need sata drivers on this laptop but if it is intel chipset (it seems it is 945 express) so this link should provide all drivers available (usually only F6 floppy are needed to install).

Installrite should also do the job (reg entries + files) and can also repackage to your liking the files/reg entries.

When testing an install of XP with an oem license you need to use a real computer not virtual machine (at least if you want to activate it).

Is that a specific version of DSET ? Usually dset is running on 32bits OS (so 32bits winpe should be fine) and is providing enough diagnostic information.

Or you could just try a real defragmentation tool like diskeeper (2008 version seems to be the lastest officially supporting windows 2000 but other might work) or raxco perfect disk ( perfect disk 8 seems to be the lastest officially supporting windows 2000).

I think i found where the problem lies after trying: - The QT msi package (after being extracted from the itunes package) try to an executable that isn't there so it won't install. - Reading this Apple KB, i found out that you can still download Quicktime as a standalone application (without itunes). So download it. Use 7zip to extract the file QuickTimeInstallerAdmin.exe in the folder where QuickTime.msi reside. Now it should work properly at least for Quicktime.

First, here is how to make a screenshot properly. Second try generating the log file as explained in my previous post and attach it to your next post.
-
Could you post on which OS are you trying to install and if you're just trying to install quicktime ? Also post a screenshot of the error you get. To have a full log of a msi package (quicktime in this case, you can launch from command line with the switch "/log appinstall.log" to create a log of the install in appinstall.log (which will be readable with notepad).

Strange Problem with DFI Motherboard... Please Help
allen2 replied to Shane's topic in Hardware Hangout
For your lastest question: pci-e x4 max power is 25W and pci-e x16 is 75W. Infos taken from the source. -
I found another great (the best IMO) open source xml parser: xmlstarlet.

Netrass.inf seems to install it (its shortname is sharedaccess) with other network components. You might be able to remove it this way (i never tried so i can't guarantee it).

Benchmark results like those often doesn't reflect reality depending on your hard drive usage of course. Aside this fact, the lower access time is always better. Also any sata 3 drive should perform better when copying big files. Ssd might be useful to host data that need a very low access time like the system but i didn't see a big difference for an xp x86 between and a WD velociraptor (first gen sdd where totally beaten by the velociraptor). As i didn't tried the third ssd generation yet, i can't tell if it's really worth its price for the OS (the second ssd generation was only a little better). But to host virtual machines, ssd are really great and if the host system is really well optimized you can get great hard drive speed and feeling when using the VM. If you really want to see a big difference for the OS, you'll have to either buy a real raid controller (any raid controller with R/W cache) or buy pci-express ssd (like a OCZ revo drive).

Strange Problem with DFI Motherboard... Please Help
allen2 replied to Shane's topic in Hardware Hangout
As i don't have enough electronic knowledge, i'll let other members help you. I think some capacitors died (they're often redudants on high end boards) and then 2nd pci-e x16 slot isn't powered enough, the first slot is most likely also damaged and setting a card there is probably doing a shortcircuit (and then not powering the board at all). I would replace the board asap as it might fry some other part but again perhaps someone with enough electronic knowledge can help. -
Does anyone know if you can find a list of MS hotfixes listed by OS and SP but not those listed by windows update ? I did search but didn't found anything up to date. I am mostly interested in XP, 2003, 2008, 2008R2 and seven.
