Strange Problem with DFI Motherboard... Please Help
allen2 replied to Shane's topic in Hardware Hangout
Indeed, you don't find many pci-e x16 cards except VGA cards. As i said before some raid controllers are pci-e x8 and could be used to see if the slot does not work at all. Of course not everyone has one to test. I didn't see the bios you listed on dfi website and as i saw moded bios for this board, does it is a modded bios ? Also did you tried the safe boot method described on page 38 of the manual ? -
Strange Problem with DFI Motherboard... Please Help
allen2 replied to Shane's topic in Hardware Hangout
I got a lot more with the psu calculator with the overclocking about 850W. No you need to find another pci-express x8 or more device to test your pci-e x16 slots but perhaps the some capacitor died and now they are not powered correctly anymore. Raid controllers may be used if you have one. What does the motherboard do whitout vga (it should beep) and does the same happen when the vga card is connected to a pci-e x16 ? -
Strange Problem with DFI Motherboard... Please Help

When i was speaking of drives, that was about the hdd and the dvd-rw. Did you tried a clear cmos ? Did you connect the 12V 6 pins to the HD5770 (i suppose you did it) ? Just for info the power consumption of recent VGA adapter. -

Strange Problem with DFI Motherboard... Please Help
allen2 replied to Shane's topic in Hardware Hangout
I really don't see the point of asking for assistance if you refuse to try or to even think trying others suggestions. Usually, when you have a problem, you try to remove everything from the most suspicious part and try replacing it and/or try it elsewhere. If you're sure the motherboard is faulty, ask for a replacement as it should still be under warranty. -
Strange Problem with DFI Motherboard... Please Help
allen2 replied to Shane's topic in Hardware Hangout
At first sight, this whole problem might be coming from the power supply. If you have a spare one with more wattage power, you should try it or remove all drives (hdd, dvd-rw) and all memory stick you can. -
The new partition even if it is a primary on the secondary drive shouldn't get the D: letter if it is already assigned to an already and still present partition. To defragment the pagefile, you can use PageDefrag.

Building a Hign I/O Workhorse Raid Card Advice needed
allen2 replied to paraffin's topic in Hardware Hangout
As you will use the array to host VM, you should create 2 raid 10 and use each as a raw device and if ntfs formated with at least 16KB clusters and aligned. The system of each VM should be hosted elsewhere. -
If you server hardware support chimney and is a windows 2003 there is a bug when chimney is enabled and it might do the described behaviour.

Building a Hign I/O Workhorse Raid Card Advice needed
allen2 replied to paraffin's topic in Hardware Hangout
Direct answer to your question: If you're planning to have 8 ssd sata II: - Get a LSI 3ware 9650SE 8LPML with the maximum cache (512MB) and the battery backup cache. - Get a Areca ARC1220 (8 ports version but with no more than 256MB of cache ) or the 12 ports model ARC 1230 or 1231 with the 2GB cache and the battery backup cache. If you're planning to have 8 ssd sata III: - Get a LSI 3ware 9750-8I which is almost the only decent card supporting sata 3 drives. Also, i don't have any idea on what you're planning to do but if you need raid 10, you should also try raid 5/6 I/Os and speeds with the card of your choice as you might be really supprised with perfs almost as good as raid 10 with this number of drives. Alternative solution, buy a pci express based ssd like fusion-io products or ocz pci-express based ssd. -
You could extract the whole package and remove the unwanted toolbar and idrive ( They are in the Prerequisite folder as i remember ). The whole package is about 400MB compressed but once uncompressed it is 1.8GB so you might need to re-compress it after cleaning.

The easier way to fulfill efficiently some of your points is deepfreeze but it is not free. The other way would be to create a master with gpos and security enabled to allow only permitted process and write somewhere that would be automatically deleted after reboot.

SG 7200.11 Not letting PC power up
allen2 replied to RandyFlagg's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
Do you see it in bios ? Did you tried to plug it in an usb enclosure and connect after pc powered up ? -
For me, the best free one is photorec. And as for the best non-free , it's r-studio. But i suppose depending on what kind of file system and file types some others might be a lot better suited for the job.

I saw some 3380 drives where i studied. I always wondered at what size (physical and capacity) the hard drive would get. Now you could put the entire data of stored on twenty of those that took a room in a single micro sd.

You'll need to repair your install with install dvd or use the alternate method. Most likely, you downloaded a virus or a malware instead of a driver.

If you don't post the exact make and model of your motherboard how do you think we can help you ? Oh yes i have an answer: - Try every key on your keyboard - Try every key with CTRL - Try every key with ALT - Try every key with CTRL + ALT.

If the loading bar freeze, then you might have an hardware problem like a failed ram stick or a cooling problem. If the loading bar doesn't but never disapear, how long did you wait ? If more than 30 minutes and it is doing the same in safe mode, then try removing any not needed hardware (like an usb drive/printer or any recently added component) or simply remove the CD/DVD in cd/dvdrom drive.

Hum, you're trying to slipstream SP3 (who doesn't exist for XPx64) on an x64 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you get it to work your os should not boot or work after install!
-
You should try the bootdisk located there and if it works then you'll only have to create a new boot cd for scsi cdrom. You shouldn't need to replace the scsi cdrom as it should be able to boot.

Running Windows from a CF Memory Drive as a Fixed Disk
allen2 replied to spinjector's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
I wouldn't buy a slc drive as most recent mlc ssd are now faster because they use better algorithms. Also taking smaller drive will only make you loose the already integrated raid 0 that most ssd over 60GB use and they are faster with it. Right now, if i needed to buy an ssd (sized about 60GB), i would buy either a Crucial M3/M4 64GB or OCZ agility 3 60GB (they are sold about 130$). Ssd are like hard drive but you don't need to reserve the first partition to the partition who need the fastest read/write speed as the speed should almost linear everywhere on the ssd. As you don't have a sata port and if you have a pci express x4 free slot you could buy a revo drive instead (i put the link for the 110GB, as it is only a little higher than the 16GB transcend slc ). -
Did you restarted the computer after applying those settings ? If you did and it still doesn't work then try the alternate method from MS using gpedit.msc (a reboot is needed to apply the setting).

If your mouse has XP drivers, you might be able to change its dpi and do what you need but not all mouse allow this.
